[Day 5 EA]Gambling Habits[Closed]
[This event happening is contingent on Theo/Raff having confirmation on certain inside information..]
No tourney without some heavy gambling on the jousters, and with the names thinning down to 32, there were indeed some highly interesting ones being served up today. Theomore was here early, taking in the conversation like a predator sniffing for blood, making smalltalk with others, mingling until he found the group that always formed, the one with well to do lords and knights with loose gold to stake. Striking up a conversation about the contestants, he does get a good feel for the sentiments regarding which matches will gain the most coin. At the appearance of a face that would not otherwise make itself present unless certain things were proceeding as planned, he sets his own little scheme in motion. "
So, what odds do I get?"
he asks with nonchalance, daring to see if anyone would bet against him, not much positive response.."
Ah, I suppose there's downsides for making that extra effort for a fine lady in the stands during the pageantry."
He jokes that away. "
Seems I drew the wrong merman for placing bets upon myself!"
Now posing as Ser Robert of the Kingswood, Raff looked quite presentable in his nice looking tabard with an emblem of treetops sewn onto it. He had checked on both Ser Byron and Ser Meddrick, both would be jousting, neither looked very good. But where one had his stomach in a really bad knot, the other needed help walking in a straight line..admittedly, Raff had expected the merman to be confined to his bed, maester racing against time to save his life, leaving Dunstan to take his place, that would be an outcome most fortuitous, but even with Ser Meddrick in the lists, this match was still rigged. And all one had to do was luring these fools in with the bait. "
I do not think so, ser. Ser Meddrick is indeed the more formidable of the two brothers, but have you not heard? He was poisoned, unable to hold the contents of his guts inside, you would make short work of him in that condition."
Theomore sees by the nods around him that Raff's words are not exactly disagreeing. "
So you are saying, ser, that Ser Byron will make equally short work of him? He may not be the equal of Ser Derrock, but he seemed about as capable as myself last time I saw the man joust"
More nods, and Theomore knows the bait has been swallowed in a most greedy fashion. "
Give me good odds and I'll take that bet, more than mushrooms are needed to daunt some northmen I know."
Raff, of course, had his own retort well thought out: "
The Manderly's aren't of the north, they come from the soft underbelly of Westeros, the Reach, home of the summer knights...I'll stake the golden visage of the old king against you, ser."
And with that, the game was on.

[OOC: given the work that went in to this, going with base TN 12 (awareness 3) and 3 DoS at 100ss per Dos = 300ss
Top skullduggery. Would that Roland Hite were here to put an end to it, or more likely get naively caught in the web!]
