[Day 4, EM] Known Unknowns
The worst thing about the investigation so far...outside the threat of immolation, political ruination, and getting mired in an ongoing war between two firmly entrenched foes...was having to get up so damn early. Okay, maybe not the WORST thing. Gwyn had been known to start the day before dawn at Caladan Hall too. The difference was that she actually knew she'd be getting things done when she did.
She and Daveth, and their escorts were in the area of Blackbuckle again, which thanks to Nathan's efforts was at least free of the rotting remains. The shadow of the deaths that had happened there lingered though, and it felt a bit colder, looked a bit darker. Neither of them spoke much to one another as they went. The plan had been wrangled out already, and neither felt much need to comment on the surroundings. Blackbuckle was a forlorn place, and so repellent that even standing in the middle of it, one wanted to forget it was there.
But they weren't there for the village itself. The eyes that might have seen what they were looking for there were all sitting comfortably in the bellies of ravens by now. However there were farms all around, small houses of trappers and others who lived off the land. In the weeks preceding the die-off in the village, there'd come a large stampede...ideal cover for whoever had poisoned the well.
The question to ask then was simple enough. Had anyone seen strangers about on the day of the stampede? Had there been anyone in Blackbuckle who just didn't belong?
