[Day 8 LA] Before the sword falls

Septon Arlyn and sees the Marsten entourage arrive at the Warriors keep. The Septon knows that he does not have much time before he must attend the Dulver celebration so he moves quickly from the tourney grounds. besides, Septon Arlyn thinks to himself, I've seen enough blood and death this week, I don't wish to see any more, even if they do deserve it.
Septon Arlyn had been set up in the healer's tent, providing healing for the knights who were competing in the impromptu tournament setup by Lord Haig. His duties were finally drawing to a close, everyone was bandaged as possible, and given instructions to rest.
Septon Arlyn crosses the brown grass, still wet with the days rain and dead from the salt driven in to the ground by the Tyron Blackwood's men.A stubble reminder to the investigating houses about the damage caused to his fields? Or a desire to prevent more of his peasants lands from being tromped by the iron shoes of the heavy cavalry and the footprints of peasants watching the tournament. Only Lord Haig knows... Septon Arlyn thinks to himself.
Septon Arlyn reaches where the Marstens were arriving, with the prisoners in tow. He announces himself to Lady Corinne before the Septon looks curiously at the cup bear and I think I recognize that man thinks Septon Arlyn to himself, but not the features of the man are so indistinguishable that the Septon just dismisses the cupbearer. probably simply a man of a note worthy house. Septon Arlyn straightened himself up and his robes move stiffly, reveling, on careful observation they would notice Ser Kevin's gift underneath giving his robes rigidity more then what heavy garments would normally allow. Septon Arlyn clears his throat and asks "
My Lady may I speak frankly about the subject of the second penny tree attacks?"
Septon Arlyn then waits for an answer.
"
My Lady, begins Septon Arlyn, "
I find the second attacks on the village of Penny tree to be quite vexing. I spoke with my Lady Gwyn, whom I believe is your good cousin, about the subject as well. I believe that the Drakesons, and by extension possibly the Cold Brooks, are under the impression that Ser Theomore had direct involvement with the second Pennytree attacks. Or at least that is what I'm lead to believe by the bickering that was occurring between Lord Baelon and Ser Theomore during the treaty negotiation."
Septon Arlyn gives a small smile at the remembrance of how Lady Corrine handled that situation, "
however,"
begins Septon Arlyn, "
when I questioned Ser Theomore directly about being involved in the second Pennytree attack, he denied any direct involvement. What he did admit to was convincing Lord Haig to gather up the stolen merchandise from the first Pennytree attack and placing them in Lord Haig's courtyard. This leads me to believe that second attacks were meant to cover up the first attack. Specifically the fact that it was an attack against the Dornish caravan. I'm sure you have clearly seen this by the evidence presented, I'm just explaining my thought process to how I came to my conclusion.
Septon Arlyn pauses long enough for any comments from the Marsten's to present themselves.

Septon Arlyn searches for those words, seeking a non offensive term, "
as it may impact trade and cause the dornish to remember their treatment by Prince Daemon. As well as the last war between the dornish and the rest of the kingdoms,"
which did not end well for either side, but the Targaryen had the worst of it, for the darkness are the only kingdoms to have successfully killed one of the Targaryen dragons, during aegon's conquest thinks Septon Arlyn.
Septon Arlyn holds up his hands in a peaceful gesture "
I understand that the treaty is complete now but this is just the information that I have gathered so far. However I feel that we owe it to the people of Penny tree to bring to justice those bandits, Ser Theomore seems to believe that they would have made their way to maidenpool, hoping to find a ship there and travel to Essos. I hope to find them before they leave."
Septon Arlyn looks slightly remorseful, "
I wish that I could have realized that they were fleeing, maybe we could have sent people after them sooner, as their tracks would have been easier to follow. However now they have a 4 or 5 day head start."
Septon Arlyn looks at lady Corrine, honesty of his words pouring forth like wine from a pitcher. "
I am hoping that my blood family who lives there may be of some assistance, but I'm wondering if you have any men who are skilled at discretion? Quietly asking Questions is not necessarily a strength of mine, as you probably heard about from the Blackwood's Maester's experience I had. Ser Theomore has offered the service of a man he knows in maidenpool. I'm not sure I completely trust him to not try and lead me astray, so if you have someone who could help in the asking of questions and moving in the shadowy areas of towns I believe that would be a great asset to my investigations."

Septon Arlyn gives a cheesy grin, "
I think that finding the truth of this matter is of great importance, for with the second attack happening under the investigative houses watch it would be more of an issue not to follow up then to be caught following up, at least this is what I believe."
Septon Arlyn gives a more somber look. "
My concern is not that we will bring disgrace to our respective houses, but more about the fact that once we find out where the Cavalry went to, how do we bring them to justice and stay safe?"
Septon Arlyn answers his own rhetorical question, "
my hope is that I can convince the Mooton's and my old family to lend us the men we need. But we will see when the time comes what help we can muster. "
Septon Arlyn smiles abashedly has not had any more concrete plan but his honesty and forthrightness is not in question.

he was an old man when I left, I imagine he must be nearly ancient. I remember him telling me about the reign of Maegor the cruel, that would put him well within his 80s. thinks Septon Arlyn. "
he has a small townhouse located in Maidenpool that I grew up in. The family of my blood was small, but we have been in service to the Mooton's since the time of the Andals invasion."
given our position by Fergal the Fool, in a bout of madness some still whisper thinks the Septon darkly.

I plan on leaving first thing tomorrow morning, I have one of Ser Walton's squires preparing my wagon now. The guard Mikel will be traveling with me, but there is still room in the wagon for one more. We will be traveling with 3 horses, so that we can switch them out on who is pulling the cart. So if you have some one who could help I would greatly appreciate it. We leave from Pennytree tomorrow at dawn. Do you have any more questions of me?"

Perhaps I could convince my Lord Father to arrange an escort back to your lands, but many Lords grow uneasy with another Lord's men marching on their lands, even if they do so in peace."
Septon Arlyn thinks for a moment then states, "
Perhaps a letter we could show to the Lords who lands we pass by, showing that I am traveling with prisoners under the kings banner to bring them to justice in Hartshorn?"
Septon Arlyn is thinking out loud, throwing out one possibility for helping ease both Lord Qargle mind at sending his men out under the protection of the kings banner and providing reassurance that they would be traveling in peace to other Lords whose lands they were to pass through.

There is also the matter of if the men should resist, and should the bandits kill some of their men in the process. They might demand to be the ones to provide justice to those who did the actual killing, but may leave the rest for you, perhaps even the leader of the bandits."

Nay, I merely wish that I could convince them to give up their ways when I find them. But instead I will contact the local Lord's and ask for their assistance in dealing with the bandits. For no Lord would want known bandits to live on his lands, for their attacks against the small folk and merchants hurt the local Lord's as well. I doubt that any Lord aware of such heinous acts would support the removal of such dangerous men as these bandits are from their lands."

at least they will once I speak of their duty to the small folk and the Faith to them. What sort of Lord would refuse the divine charge of justice from the king and the gods?"

Although my biggest concern is even finding them my Lady. They already have quite a significant lead on us. It will take great skill and even more luck to find them now. But I believe that the Gods will show me the path. Or else they will let them commit even more foul deeds so that the stain of their sin can not be removed by the mercy of the mother before the stranger comes for them."
Septon Arlyn spoke with conviction, filled with righteous purpose. the Gods speak to me, I'm sure that if I am to be their servant in this matter they will provide a way.

Perhaps if you have a moment in your tourney going Lord Qargle can show you his fishing fleet, it smells of fish but it is quite impressive to se all the variety of crabs, swordfish, and tuna. One thing that our family does not lack on is bounty from the sea."
