"
So you think you can do it?"
Jon asked the goldsmith.
"
Of course, Ser Jon, it'll be ready by this afternoon, but...I'll have to charge you extra,"
the graybeard answered hesitantly.
"
That won't be a problem, my friend,"
Jon replied with a grin, jingling his money pouch.
Jon looked again at the sketch the goldsmith had made to his specifications. A golden brooch in the shape of an eagle, clutching a sword and what looked suspiciously like two...sausages...in its claws. The eagle's eyes would be tiny emeralds, and cloisonné garnet inlays would give the sausages a distinctive red coloring.
If Dyana doesn't laugh out loud at this, I'll be the one looking like a horse's arse, Jon chuckled to himself as he remembered yesterday's conversation with Loreia.
There was far less risk entailed in his second gift, he thought. A fine shawl of Myrish lace, woven from silk, gold and silver thread. Light enough to be worn indoors, but just thick enough to provide a little extra warmth on say...a morning stroll.
It's less personal, but I've never yet met a lady who'll turn down a nice piece of Myrish lace, Jon reflected as he pictured how it would look on Lady Isobel.
