Re: [Day 8, LM] Witness to the crime (Open)
The Septon takes a moment to walk carefully down the bleachers to the floor, so that more people can see him and hear his words. "
People,"
The Fat Septon begins. "
This man stands before you, an accused rapist. Rather then face his sentence of guilty handed down by the Noble Lord Tully, he requests a trial by combat. Now this man is clearly guilty, however the gods have given him a chance to redeem his name."
Turning towards Ser Benjen Frey. "
You Ser have committed a vile deed against those whom you have sworn to protect! The innocent smallfolk under the protection of another Lord!"
Turning back towards the crowd. "
My fellow Lords and Ladies of the faith I ask of you to think of your own daughters safety. Should this man man loose the trial by combat he is entitled to."
Septon Arlyn spits the words out in disgust. "
Then you must think of them and their safety! For if a man is given the right to rape women with impunity then he may be coming for your daughters next. May the maiden protect them if this FIRIOUS FREY's savagery!"

Re: [Day 8, LM] Witness to the crime (Open)
The Septon's words only inflame passions, and soon Greens and Blacks compete to prove themselves the most holy and the true defenders of the smallfolk. Benjen's vile assault on Brenna is now little more than political theatre, a venue for grandstanding and winning support.
Demands for Ser Benjen's punishment rapidly escalate from the simple fine and public censure originally intended to first a public flogging, then gelding. It is a small mercy to Ser Benjen - and one he scarce deserves - that only a few wilder voices cry for an execution and a generally ignored. The nobleborn do not want to establish too strong a precedent of equality of punishment.
Lord Frey frowns at the Septon's intervention and shakes his head. The damnable Septon had led to a far more stringent punishment than he had anticipated, and there would no be a reckoning from his subjects.
When order has once more been restored Lord Tully announces the consequence to defeat for Ser Benjen shall indeed by a gelding, "
To better protect all the Mother's daughters, be they high born or low born."
[OOC: Lord Forrest Frey's disposition towards house dulver deteriorates to dislike (please note in House Resources). His attitude to Septon Arlyn deteriorates to Unfriendly (please note in your personal forum).

(OOC and I'm just going to go a head and place Ser Benjen Freys disposition to malicious. I really doubt that he would feel any other way toward someone who is risking him losing his favorite toy, as a certain sick someone might say)

Ser Jorah stood up, calm and collected.

I will stand for the Seven. I have no personal stake in this matter and my arm will guided by the Seven, not by any malice or politics."

"
Let it be so then - Ser Jorah will stand for the Seven, with Ser Derrock his able second should the former be indisposed,"
commanded Lord Tully. "
May the Seven guide the combatants to justice."
