Chained, but a slave? (closed Mid morning D8)
: 3d6 12 [against passive deception to read him]
The citadel is a powerful place not just given to learning and academic pursuits. They also have a huge political power, given their expertise and authority on medicine. If this was not enough they have at their disposal knowledge and comunication, through their books and their ravens, the fastest way to relay a message through westeros.
looking at the maester in front of him, it is hard to see the power, but Yoren knows it's there. This man has the life of Gorman Tully in his hands. This man also controls all the messages sent and received by Gorman. This man is not to be trifled with. Yoren could not help it, he needed this mans support.
"
Maester Medric? I requested this meeting with you for business beneficial for both my house, the citadel, and you yourself."
Yoren takes a breath, looking for which seemed most important for the maester. Barreling on, as the maesters face yielded too little information, he starts explaining himself. "
North of the wall are species only heard of in myths, trees and plants long since died out south of the wall. People have myths similar to those of the first men, the wall was built before their stories got diluted by the andal invasion. A culture unheard of, surely the maesters would want to know."
Sensing that he has the maesters ear he comes to the catch: "
However, my father has never seen academic pursuits as important, and therefore the citadels help would be appreciated... Everything got a price, and though I'm shouldering the majority of the expedition, a contribution from the Citadel would be much appreciated... I will then of course allow any of your maesters who wishes to join our expedition to do so... under full protection from our soldiers."
Yoren gives a flash of a smile, awaiting the maesters answer.

"
You ask much and more master Yoren. Such expeditions are not without their risks - bad weather, disease, wildlings."
However, it is clear Yoren has piqued Medrick's interest, and the Longshore heir is able to slowly dismantle Medrick's arguments and secure his support for a characteristically bold venture.
Yoren has seen the world, while Maester Medrick's academic ways and influence find little purchase with Yoren - a triumph for hard won experience over scholarly research.
"
Know too that the Citadel's doors shall be closed to you and yours should any harm come to our investment our delegate on this voyage,"
he demands as they negotiate, but Yoren has read Medrick's intentions, and can tell he's already dreaming of the papers he will write on the strange flora and fauna to be recovered.
[OOC: intrigue handled off screen. : 4d6 22 - Yoren can't beat Medrick's status roll.

1 DoS and is defeated by Yoren's convincing argument
Maester Medrick has 1 Wealth contributed to the project, and simply expects a:
- return on his investment to recoup his costs
- First claim on interesting plants/small animals
- He sends Pate the Scribe rather than a mediocre acolyte, boosting the expedition's chance by giving it access to a character with Knowledge 4d6]

After a long time back and forth Yoren is finally happy about the arrangements. The wealth of knowledge of pate and the golden dragons should be enough to see the journey through. He promises the Maester that he will get his scribe back in one piece, and with a wealth of new information. He also assures the maester that he will be the first to get paid back. With a firm handshake and a copy of their agreement, Yoren sets off.
