Glory
The tourney at Ashford Meadow was a surprise, but Lord Ashford was garnessing some repute to himself, and a number of fine knights flocked to the Reach to prove their mettle. Now, at the end of the tourney, there was but one tilt to be decided before the winner was named - this tournament was, for some reason, following the usual format instead of the five champions' usually employed there. Ser Derrock Swann, the Aurochs of the Stormlands, was to face Ser Daryon Costayne, and up-and-coming knight who carried the Hightower's favor as well as his lance - and that was saying something.
The sun shone bright, and fittingly, above the tenny banners depicting a sun beneath a chevron inverted argent, and the current of the Cockleswent could be heard not too far away. The day was good for a hunt, or a stroll, or a crashing of lances, and spirits were high.
The Shieldbreaker was in his best form for the last six or seven years. Not doning a decent bringandine and kicking a rounsey into motion as in Riverrun some months before, no - his great stallion, magnificent in its trot as the knight rode in against the wind, almost faded to the background in comparison to its rider. Clad in an immaculately polished and splendent suit of white plate, expertly fitted to his form and bearing the coat-of-arms of the Swanns - which, curiously, led the joints and details of the armor to be woven in black, giving an odd twist to the eye as one looked upon the ensemble - he looked every inch the unconquerable lancer of his youth, especially when he lowered the fully-concealing visor and poised to ride.
The crowd waited anxiously for the outcome of the last joust match.

Re: Glory
The Costayne knight, though proud to be a finalist with hard-earned but deserved victories until now, knew well and through the saying: When you face the Aurochs, you lose. Still, he was not about to go down willingly, or without a fight. He would break his lances, he would endure through the tilts, no matter what. And well he rode, as all the times before, for he was a skilled rider that put whispers of fear in the minds of his opponents. If only Ser Derrock was another common opponent...
He passed through with a clean miss. It was hard to understand how he could not even glance or brush his lance against such a large target, a big shield on a big man on a big horse. But Ser Derrock's legendary skill was no myth, and Ser Daryon found himself mustering every inch of his endurance and skill to handle the lance that sounded a clean thud against his shield and rode past, not at all shattering. He had half-hoped that the stories were exaggeration, that he was up to the task, but it was clear it would be an effort to not be unhorsed on the next pass. His breath heavy, he turned his mount to get ready for the impact again.

Re: Glory
Derrock's technique was no mystery to anyone that knew jousts, and he did not make a point to try and mask it. His first pass was always guarded, focusing on his own horse rather than his target, even though he could balance the two goals rather well. It was a measurement, to see what he could expect from the next tilts, should the enemy stay in his saddle. And depending on what he found out, Ser Derrock could be fierce when they clashed again.
