Home Sweet Home
Theomore's journey back to Mountain's Reach had been somewhat longer than the rest of Tullisons, though since his company included no more than Raff, his squire and a few capable swords for caution, all on horseback and traveling light, Lord Dunstan had no need to wait long for the news he brought.
Not that it was overly exciting, Lord Lucas was amiable to the idea of his daughter becoming lady Tullison, but he had promised her mother to let their darling girl be allowed to marry a man that she could love, oh not the silly notion of romance that the singers had filled the head of his nephew with. But the marriage of Lord Lucas had been unhappy, and he did not wish it upon Maryssa to suffer the same. But a proper introduction could be arranged at the earliest convenience, and should she not object to such an agreement, then neither would he. Or so Theomore suspects, no lord worth his salt would not be slightly dismissive to a proposal for his daughter's hand, seem too eager and the other lord might sit on the better arguments when the dowry is to be agreed upon.
The Freys, of course, was a considerable more complicated bunch. Lord Forrest was the sort of lord Theomore could get behind, perhaps not the most ambitious sort, true enough, but when all one's neighbors consider you an upstart house merely five centuries old, AND you happen to match all but the lord paramount in power. Then it may well be wise not to give them too many reminders of your steadily growing prominence. However, he had more than enough family members with ambitions for themselves and the Freys to make up for whatever he lacked of it, many times over. The fall of Ser Benjen had left one of the more attractive holdings open for the taking, and the lady Floreta had already three cousins among her suitors. Lord Frey decided that Floreta would benefit from spending six moons at a septry and that his half-blind granduncle should hold Ser Benjen's vacated seat as long as his health allowed.
Theomore also met a rather interesting visitor at the twins, a man worth inviting home, though a coin toss would probably be equally accurate as far as guessing whether or not Ser Erryk would be welcomed by his nephew. He does also wonder what Raff had been doing at the Twins. Checking up on some "
old acquaintances"
he said, a statement ominous enough if he used the term "
friends"
. Theomore trusts Raff not to do anything foolish or harmful to the Tullisons, but he did have these inclinations for mischief that involved more risk than it was worth. Still, Theomore also prefers not to know, no accidents happened during their stay, and that's good enough for him.
