[Day 1, Mid Morning] A contest of pain [Closed] Empty [Day 1, Mid Morning] A contest of pain [Closed]

Where the weirwood stands rooted, Loreia paces underneath dead leafless branches. The other trees growing around the clearing appear to brace back from its center, as if to shun the dead tree like a dog foaming at the mouth prior to being put down. She regards it like a scarred old veteran, hobbled by war wounds with rare visits leaving his grim advice or warnings all the more stern for their neglect.

Her brusque encounter with Theomore at last year's tourney faintly calls to her like the rings in a tree trunk, dark grooves of memory on smooth featureless wood.

"
I wish all that I did was unhorse him."

I won't let you just walk away after what you did.

"
A handshake may be preferable to a blood feud."

If you offer as many hands to equal the weight of the boy you impaled.

She lowers her head and closes her eyes in contemplation. And now I must aid in judgment of the misdeeds of two noble houses. If I am to have the power and the right, I would ask to judge but one man!

Even if you were so blessed, your houses would become as bitter as these two.

...They're still standing.

...Foolish girl.

She shakes her head, upset that she could put the right words in her Gran's mouth only to turn them on herself. At the sound of stiff grass crunching underfoot, she turns her head toward a fellow visitor in the godswood.

Dunstan walked to the goodswood with his usual escort of guards. He heard so much from lady Moraine about it he simply had to visit on his first day of stay in raventree hall.

Upon seeing a familiar face in the form of Loreia, he smiles.

"
Hello there. Hope I'm not interrupting your prayer. If I am, please, do ignore me and continue"
he smiles once again.

She turns and nods to him like a peer, if only because his status elevates him to that level with his friends. Am I a friend, or just some over-familiar peasant? "
Lord Dunstan, morning. I was just...reflectin' on things."
And does he walk everywhere with those men?

"
Like this feud between these two houses. What do you think, m'lord? Who's in the right, here?"

"
I assume this is a rather tangled affair. One side can be right in one instance, while the other in some other. Rarely are things just plainly black and white."
he smiles

"
Or so I think. I guess we will see.How have you been, how is life?"

"
Hmm. It's been fulfilling."
As she elaborates, Loreia's thoughtfulness turns into pride. "
Touch an' go, but rewarding. Came back from Yoren's trip to Thenn alive, won a couple duels, an' now I hear people chantin' that title Prince Daemon gave me at last year's tourney. I'm proud to've been part of that little war with the clans in the Vale. They stood little chance, winning was all but assured. That an' my part in the victory over the Faith Militant got me promoted - I'm with the Morningstar now."

"
Bein' recognized for my skill is long overdue."
The swell in her voice trails off. "
Took a few victories, not to forget my placin' in the tourney, if you don't mind me sayin'. Still, feels odd. Like I might hear everyone in the great hall boo me the moment I walk back in. That grand melee had downs to rival the ups."

"
Congratulations. You certainly deserved all the praises. And those who would boo you and talk behind your back are likely just ashamed of their own weakness"
Dunstan says.

"
The battles in the Vale were harsh, I hear. Clansmen attempted an attack at Mountain's Reach too, trying to make use of the fact we sent most of our troops away to fight on Marsten lands - but Theomore and I beat them back."

"
Are you staying here? Did you have a chance to do some traveling around countryside just yet?"

"
Really? That's good to hear."

"
As hosted by the little lord himself, if he could I'm sure. An' no, I haven't had time to do much, but I will very soon. I doubt it'll be as scenic as a vigil under a weirwood, though,"
she adds as an admonishing reminder of their duty. "
And you?"

"
Yes, it was quite exciting. Luckily none of our soldiers died. Theo finished of their leader and than our achers did all the work. They foolishly charged and Matther and them just filled them with arrows."

"
Raventree Hall will be my residence, yes. We are family through my mother, she is a Blackwood, and only thought it would be reasonable to stay here"

"
I am getting ready to go to the mines right now."
Dunstan says.

"
You're welcome to come with me if you want."

OOC: If you want we can continue to talk in the mine thread.

OOC wrote:I realized that Late Morning was also the time slot House Coldbrook is using for its first investigation on the Darry border, so I can't be with you at the mines, sorry. I thought to myself this could take place just minutes before we leave, but I'm actually changing this thread's time to Mid Morning since we're both at Raventree Hall for bread&
salt.
I thought maybe the great hall and the godswood would require separate time slots, but lumping them together in the same time slot seems to work best in context to the setup of King's Justice. Additionally, In Character we got places to go, so it would make sense that we wouldn't dillydally or mill about in one location within a region for even an hour or two.
Loreia raises a skeptical eyebrow at the mention of Theomore's involvement. At least he defends home and hearth like a proper warrior. "
Good man. It's a shame he didn't make it to the final grouping in the melee last year at Riverrun, I might've seen a taste of what he gave their leader."

Dunstan wrote:"

"
Can't, Daveth has other plans,"
she answers. "
We've got all sorts of places to visit, though. We might run into each other out there."

Round 2

"
I am aware of that, but I am particularly interested in your opinion. I owe a lot to Daveth and will talk to him too, but I feel like you would understand the troubles of these people since you come from a similar background. Daveth, and as much I hate to admit it, me too come from a whole another persepctive - these people didn't have a maester nor Lords and Ladies to court their desires, they are just like you, they take care of themselves."
he says

"
If we include your betters into this it might influence our decisions.. Of course, I am not telling you what to do here, if you want to ask him go ahead and do, I am just stating my opinion."

It would appear so, but things often seem one way and are actually another. Who knows what's one sided and what is objective? That's why I trust you - if I needed advice on smithing steel I would as a blacksmith, now I want to see what in the Seven Hells happened to the smallfolk here, so I am asking you since you are of similar station."

I see. Then, in workin' toward the same objective, I'll do my best to live up to your trust - if you'll reward my 'report' with one on a matter of my choosing?"
After all, it's only fair.

Yield terms
Loreia: will inform Dunstan of what she sees in her investigation of the feud spilling over the Darry border.
Dunstan: will report on an investigation to be decided by Loreia. Loreia gets a +1D in next intrigue.

ID for previous round was 8. Convince result 17 +Amiable = 18, 3 DoS, 9 - 3 DR = 6 - 4(1 Frus) = 2

Quick note: I rolled Withdraw initially, there's a result in Orokos you can look up, but I decided on a different action. It wasn't a bad roll, mind. Furthermore, I see that I've been handling penalty dice all wrong. I think I got it right below.

Currently end of Round 4

"
I would like you to do the same for me,"
she answers, puffing up. "
To tell me what your people learned in one of your investigations."

I would love to do that, but can't commit to a promise . My situation is different, being a Lord means I can't promise to tell you what I found out before I see what that is. It could have political ramifications, or insult all the wrong people who might see me in unfavorable light after that - which could lead to the suffering of not only me but the people who depend on my House."
Dunstan says.

Because I represent a whole lot of people. When I say something, it is not taken as just a thing Dunstan said, but what a person who represents the Tullisons said. You have that luxury to do and talk according to your own will."
"
Dunstan says.

"
And I can command a whole lot of soldiers and talk with influential people who can solve problems. That's why I can't promise to tell you something - I am unsure of what I'll find out. I seek both the information you are bound to discover, and more improtantly, your opinions on that information. I can see for myself but never truly see from the viewpoint of those smallfolk who were wronged. You can. Affairs of Lords and Ladies are different than of those who live on their lands."
