[D5, Late Morning] Archery contest
Archery Contest
While lacking the grandeur of the joust or melee, the archery contest is still a well respected event. Mercifully, the wind has died down compared to previous days, and conditions are dry.
Archery targets, with the traditional circles within circles, are laid out for the competitors to fire at, and moved back each round as the field is winnowed down.
Participants: as many per house as desired
Challenges
Marksmanship (Bows) (9) – Four DoS needed to progress.
Marksmanship (Bows) (12) - Five DoS needed to progress
Marksmanship (Bows) (15) - Seven DoS needed to progress
Marksmanship (Bows) (18) - Highest DoS wins.
Consequences
- Five shots per round.
- You're expected to shoot fairly rapidly, so only your first roll benefits from the "
aim"
action.
- 1 point per DoS.
- Three arrows hit at TN 12 = +1 glory
- Final round: total DoS determines victor.
- Winner = +1 glory, 20 gold dragons and a superior bow

Re: [D5, Late Morning] Archery contest
The White Hart Hunter, a tall, lithe figure of indistinct gender, clad in black and grey, hooded and face concealed with a black scarf, strides into place purposefully, silently. They briefly glance around the spectators for a particular face, then takes aim carefully for the first shot, waiting as long as they can get away with, heart pounding. They breathe deeply, and loose in a short volley.
Round 1 (TN9)
: 5d6k3 11
: 4d6k3 14
: 4d6k3 13
: 4d6k3 16
: 4d6k3 14
8 points
Although their face is obscured to the spectators, the White Hart Hunter's expression is of dismay, giving way to pride. The first round had gone better than expected, though now there was more pressure to perform. They take aim again with a careful, deep breath.
Round 2 (TN12)
: 5d6k3 17
: 4d6k3 12
: 4d6k3 8
: 4d6k3 12
: 4d6k3 16
5 points
One shot goes wider than intended, and the White Hart Hunter mildly curses under their breath, and murmurs a quick prayer to the Gods before taking aim again for the next round, excitement and terror gripping their heart in equal measure.
Round 3 (TN15)
: 5d6k3 17
: 4d6k3 9
: 4d6k3 17
: 5d6k3 14
: 5d6k3 18
Not enough points to proceed (3).
Their shoulders drop a little, their new-found confidence dented as they realise that's as far as they can go. They leave the field as graciously as they can, with a silent but respectful nod to the other participants.
[ooc: There was a mixup in the wording of the instructions regarding Glory. Reader has kindly returned the 2DP spent in Round 3.]

Re: [D5, Late Morning] Archery contest
Nathan seems to spend more time chatting with the various participants of the contest then he does concerned about the contest. Perhaps his true targets for the day are some of the lean and lanky archers that hope to win glory and coin. As the first round finishes, he surprises some by having shot competently;
easily gaining the shots he needed to progress.
Round 1
: 4d6k3 8
: 3d6 8
: 3d6 15
: 3d6 14
: 3d6 13
5 Total DoS. Moves to Round 2.
If the last round was surprising, the next round is shocking. The young man does remarkably well, his third shot being especially good. However, despite his good performance, it would still seem he has more interest in the archers than the archery.
Round 2
: 4d6k3 15
: 3d6 14
: 3d6 17
: 3d6 11
: 3d6 13
5 Total DoS. Moves to Round 3.
The contest has now moved beyond Nathan's skill (or his attention span, whichever you prefer). He misses the target all five times, however shows neither surprise or disappointment. With a shrug, he returns to the small circle he as gathered as they laugh and comment on each others shots.
Round 3
: 4d6k3 13
: 3d6 10
: 3d6 6
: 3d6 13
: 3d6 12
Zero (0) Total DoS. Knocked out.
+1 Glory

[OOC:
Corrine Marsten +1 glory
Nathaniel Mason +1 glory
Billy Burley (Lord Blackwood's finest archer) defeats Brandon Hill (captain of a mercenary company of longbowmen in the final) in an epic contest, both are clearly excellent shots.]

Luecian steps out with his bow and takes a few deep breaths before taking aim. "
No pressure"
he says under his breath "
it's only a contest you have been training for most your life..."

Re: [D5, Late Morning] Archery contest
(OOC-still pending final approval on this interaction so if reader disproves, well then this was all a dream, all a ddddrrrreeeeeaaaammm...)
Prior to the epic finale between Billy Burley of House Blackwood &
Mercenary Captain Brandon Hill, Luecian watched the latest dismissed contestant shake the mercenary captain's hand and exchange a few words before walking off. To Luecian's surprise the tall heavy man headed straight towards him and stuck his hand out. "
What was your name again son, I saw you take your shots and you're a good archer no doubt. Clearly not as good as myself but then again very few are. Not many as good as Captain Karyl Rivers around these lands, bet your balls!"
He's displaying a striking lack of humility for a man who was just proved the third best archer present...
"
Most call me Luecian "
LongBow"
sir and thanks for them kind words, me and Lyanna surely did our best."
The captain looks at him quizically, "
and Lyanna is..."
"
My Bow sir, she's a fine one and she's almost always in the mood when I am"
he responds with a smile. Captain Rivers gives him a strange look and then guffaws out with laughter. He states "
I like you son, if you and Lyanna ever have an itch to make some real coin, come find me. I can always use another good longbowman."
before walking off still chuckling lightly.
