Theomore did not linger at Raventree, the tune was being played, but he had no intention of doing more than pretend to dance to it. In the game of thrones, there were pieces and players, just like an elaborate game of Cyvasse. And pieces on the board was sacrificed for the sake of victory. Theomore would much prefer to pick his own games, rather than face an uncertain fate as part in someone else's. And what better way to do that than to let those who think themselves players to see him as a piece too useful to lure the dragon into ambush with?
And in the game of thrones, there was another rule, if you can make a piece move, it is yours until someone else can do the same to it. And not always could a player notice that one of the pieces he thought his own had moved by the hand of another. Alun the innkeeper was definitely a piece on the board. "
I hear we have a common friend in the lady?"
Well, you have heard the rumors, no? Well, same circle of friends at least, Theo could work with that. Even better if the lady in question might not even be aware of the piece used. If she were given reports of results, she might not look too closely on how they were achieved.
A promise of allowing this piece the opportunity to greatly contribute to the cause, and thus earn the gratitude of his benefactors was all it took to move him in place to set the trap for a considerably more important piece, now he needed another to serve as bait. But that was the beauty of the game, think two steps ahead, and you might believe yourself a player. The trap was merely meant to lure a guardian out of position, so that other pieces might be moved to keep him that way, and then...and then it was time for the dragon to swoop in and go on a rampage.
