The gallant Lord Frey stood aside his dapple grey Destrier, cloaked in the in the colors of House Frey. He waited at the end of the tilt for his challenger to arrive. As the challenger moves into position he gives a salute to the Dias, where Lady Alya was sitting watching, and then saluted his wife, Lady Sabitha Frey, followed up by saluting his opponent.

The steeds of Lord Forrest Frey of the Twins and Lord Perrin Haigh of Broadmoor launch into charge at the signal, the lances of the two lords both shatter in a cloud of dagger-long shards.
Lord Forrest maintains his seat with little effort, but Lord Perrin - his back having been wrenched by the Lord Forrest's blow (and his inferior armor) - hangs on for a few seconds, precariously balanced half-off the horse before finally falling to the ground.

Lord Forrest opens his visor and salute his foe, a calm look of certitude on his face.

Lord Forrest eyes the Crab knight that challenged him. A worthier foe than his last, but with Bold Jon Roxton challenging next, Lord Forrest decides that it is best to conserve his energy for the Reachman.

Ser Corbin, eyes the Riverlord he challenged. Not as daunting as Bold Jon Roxton, who the victor of this bout will face next... but Lord Forrest is still a noted tourney knight. Ser Corbin decides that losing against Ser Jon isn't so bad, if he has won agaisnt Lord Forrest. Better than not winning at all.

The two knights crash together. Lord Forrest, disappointed by landing the inferior blow is quite surprised when he turns around and sees that Ser Corbin did not keep his seat. Ser Corbin is rather ashamed to have fallen to a weak blow such as that. Not only has he ended the tourney at a loss, the manner of his unhorsing will surely affect his reputation as well. As he rises to his feet and walks off the field, he contemplates finding a willing wench to lift his mood.

Lane 4 Challengers Empty Re: Lane 4 Challengers

Post by Baelon Drakeson Wed Feb 24, 2016 3:54 pm

Finally the match that everyone has been talking about - expected to be the highlight of the tourney as well as the most dramatic of the day: Bold Jon Roxton vs. Lord Forrest Frey. Most of the money is on Ser Jon, but a few loyalists - and hopefuls - have their money on House Redwain's bannerlord.

Lord Forrest knows that if he is to defeat the famed Roxton knight, he must keep his seat at all costs. On horse, he has a chance. On foot, he has lost.

Ser Jon knows that he is the better fighter - he almost always is. Trusting in that, he angles himself for defense.

The two knights, the crowd favorites, thunder towards each other.... and miss.
The crowd is stunned. A hush falls, followed by whispers. No one could have predicted this. Suddenly, all the wagering and boasting back and forth between the supporters of the two men seems... baseless. Not that anyone thinks less of the two storied men - rather, no one is confident that they know how it will end. Betters who put more on the line than they should have break into a nervous sweat. What might happen next?

Lining up for a second pass, both competitors reconsider their strategies.
Lord Forrest decides that a win declared by the judges is better than no win at all. If he can keep Ser Jon from hitting him well, he can hope for a decision of having had better hits.
Ser Jon decides to double down on his superior combat prowess - even though Lord Forrest also missed, Ser Jon knew that his lance-work in that pass was shoddy at best.

Once again the two men thunder towards each other - but this time there is the expected crash and shattering of lances.
Both are decent hits, but neither competitor seems even slighly affected by them. The murmuring of the crowd heightens. There is some arguing back and forth over who had the better hit, but - other than those with money on the line - the opinion is split with a sizable portion saying they were equally good hits.

The competitors are better pleased with that pass, but no advantage has been found. Still, their strategies seem to be working, if only minimally...

The crowd falls silent as the two knights line up for the third pass. The suspense and anticipation hang so heavily in the air that you could cut it with a dull knife.

The knights charge.

They crash together with tremendous force, splinters from their lances flying almost all the way to the stands.

Lord Forrest is clearly hurt, and hangs precariously from the saddle... Ser Jon seems unhurt, but clearly off balance...

...and they both fall. The crowd errupts in loud, almost violent cacophany. Who had won? Most agreed that Ser Jon had the better hit, and even Lord Forrest's supporters admitted that Bold Jon Roxton would have an edge if it came down to swords.

Ser Jon rises, awkwardly, clearly hurt from a bad fall. Lord Forrest... does not.
Attendants and maesters run out to the fallen lord, and a different sort of hush falls over the crowd. People still spoke of the death-marred tourney at Riverrun - none but the most disgustingly fervent greens would wish for Lord Forrest to lose his life this way.

One of the attendants shouts to the stands that Lord Forrest is alive, but unconscious - injured, but not life threateningly so. Sighs of relief and thanks to the Seven are heard throughout the crowd, shortly followed by bettors paying up or collecting their winnings. Directed by the maesters, the attendants lift Lord Forrest's limp frame and carry it from the field.

Bold Jon Roxton has won this dramatic bout, but paid a high price for it. Once the favorite for lane 4's ultimate victor, that is no longer certain. Murmurs about who might hold it in the end fly through the crowd - largely split along black/green lines. The blacks favor the new woman knight, Ser - or is it Lady? Most in the crowd are unsure what is correct - Loreia Durant. the greens insist that no woman would be able to defeat Bold Jon Roxton, even injured as he is.

Somewhere, Lord Jon Charlton is delighted that his odds have improved, even if in an inglorious manner... and yet frustrated that none consider him a contender for the champion's box. Worse that even Ser Loriea's detractors do not even question that he will be defeated by Ser Jon.

Ser Jon boldly takes the field, injured, to face... some guy also named Jon.

Knowing that as injured as he is, a lucky hit from even a poor jouster could defeat him, Ser Jon boldly adopts a defensive posture. It simply would not do to lose to this guy.
Lord Jon Charlton feels a deep resentment at being so looked down upon overtake reason. If he can unhorse the great Bold Jon Roxton, that's enough glory - even if he is unhorsed as well.

Lord Jon's lance doesn't even connect, while Ser Jon's hits hard enough to shatter Lord Jon's poorly positioned shield, ramming into his chest plate hard enough to leave a considerable dent, and launching him through the air a considerable distance. At best, Lord Jon would have a terrible and painful bruise;
at worst... he may be dead before he hits the ground.

The Maesters and assistants rush out to the fallen lord, but quickly indicate that the skill-less Lord is alive. The crowd is relieved.... but clearly does not care even half as much as when it was Lord Forrest.

OK, this guy seriously needs to be retired. His best possible roll would have been barely a success even if Ser Jon were riding aggressive. If I had thought about it, I would have just handwaved the pass. Let's not mar a wedding with a death, so let's leave it at unconscious... but still...

The pale blue of Ser Jon's Roxton tunic is darkened as blood seeps through his hasty bandages. His nickname is well earned however, as he bravely risks further injury to his reputation and body by facing down his next opponent.

He is no stranger to his strange opponent, he knows her qualities but also hears the swords of countless Septons and tutors from his childhood at The Ring, lecturing him on a knight's duties and a woman's place...

Round 1 - Loreia/Roxton

Loreia's heard enough about Bold Jon's praises sung and discussed in passing rumor and visits to pubs. Even the Aurochs would reasonably choose to be cautious when facing the veteran warrior, a champion of the Greens. She would count the final tilt that shook both him and Lord Frey as a blessing in disguise, but it would be foolish and too early to count her chickens. If she will be defeated, what sort of impression will she leave for her first joust? Hopefully not an image of a frightened girl.

She rides against Jon as seriously as she were facing him on the field of war...

Battered and bruised by his match with Lord Frey, Ser Jon never even considers retiring due to injury, particularly considering who he is matched against.

He remembers Loreia's boorish performance at Riverrun - an absurd woman trying to play a man's role. What will men say of me after I am gone if I back down before such a creature?

The good manners of the Reach see him ignore the boos and catcalls aimed at Loreia and dip his lance in salute, straining every sinew to ignore the burning pain of his injuries. He must not be defeated here.

"
Knock her on her Northern arse,"
shouts one wit in the crowd, drawing laughter.

"
Knock it on its Northern arse!"
shouts another would be jester even louder, correcting his fellow comic and drawing yet more raucous laughter.

After the clash, nobody laughs.

Ser Jon has been unhorsed by this so-called "
Ser"
Loreia.

Stunned silence for two breaths, then a cacophony of threats of sexual violence, unspeakable oaths and thrown refuse. The crowd is too intent upon its hatred to even cheer in relief as Ser Jon staggers to his feet, wincing as he does so.

Ser Jon takes an injury due to Lorei's lance blow and a wound to prevent the damage from his fall (in part to avoid the consequences of a zero health "

).

Ser Jon Roxton's disposition towards Loreia deteriorates from dislike to unfriendly.

Head spinning, Loreia drags herself to her feet, hissing through her teeth at the shrill pain in her chest. She hears mild relief and cheering from the crowd. She understands why when she looks up: for Jon Roxton's well-being, wincing as he stands. Not hers.

Never hers. By default, they will judge him more worthy. She picks up her shield while her other hand finds her hilt and pulls. Raising her voice to Jon, she demands the tie be broken, "

Loreia feels something inside her break. The blow dealt in the tilt served to soften the blow for Jon's assault. Damn. She grits against the pain. I...can't...fall. Not before he does. She fumbles with the grip of her weapon, its length feeling unwieldy by comparison to its more effective tactic. Her shield produces a muffled clatter when it hits the dirt.

She fights desperately to ignore the broken pain. Long, thin steel and a quick mind are all that keep his from grazing her as she searches for an opening. One finds it difficult to weigh risk against reward while a foe bides time. Before allowing too much time to pass, she runs her sword forward a narrow gap, expecting to be met with a familiar and ineffective scraping clank against Jon's armor. When the blade comes back to her, she notices a familiar scarlet hue in its metallic shine.

Stealing a glance at Jon, something wells up in her chest. She can see he's straining against the pain, and he doesn't have long before he gives out. "
It's over, you must yield, Ser."

"
There is fight and strength in me yet woman, I'll not have men say I knelt while strength remained to me."

Ser Jon speaks as much to play for time, circling warily before launching a flurry of blows at Lorei's head and joints. Despite the multitude of lance and sword wounds that hamper him, Ser Jon fights as well as many a knight would when fresh to the practice yard.

The crowd whoops and shrieks, a fevered beast desperate to see the Shieldmaiden overthrown.

But the Shieldmaiden's shield is not the battered oak and iron that lies discarded at her feet.

It is her skill, her spirit.

Somehow she finds the strength to fend of Ser Jon's attacks, desperately deflecting his flashing blade with a combination of sword, splint and strength of purpose.

When the storm passes she is battered but unscathed.

One good blow will end matters now...

Her ears and cheeks tinge red with exertion and perspiration - in addition to frustration. She understood why he would not back down, why he could not. She would have to teach him to accept defeat from her in what aims to be a friendly sport. Such a task continues to prove a harsh difficulty, from the moment they drew swords.

Warrior help me, help me end this now.

The scene on display effects two broken warriors flailing against each other in equal determination. She throws herself against Jon, beating her weapon against his defences with sheer force, and thrusting her blade violently and dangerously under his arms.

Ser Jon sinks to one knee and briefly all around is silence.

"
Hold,"
manages the Reachman, his voice clear despite his wounds.

He throws down his blade and bows his head in despair and defeat. His hand, now freed from bearing his blade, goes to his armpit where Loreia slammed her blade in to him.

As his head drops the spell is broken, and the air is once more filled with invective, thrown dirt and vegetables.

Loreia's head begins to pound mercilessly as their skirmish ends. She barely reacts to the refuse that hits her, more concerned with the well-being of the honorable Jon Roxton - and her own, distantly. They're just words she's heard often enough not to give a damn.

She sheathes her bloody blade with silent regard for cleaning it later. "
Well-fought,"
she answers raggedly, as they both stand there like pale wights waiting to be led away by a squire each.

All wait nervously, murmured discussion and the odd flash of heated debate before participants are distracted by the matches in other lanes.

Will Ser Loreia return? Is she even fit to return?

If she does not return, what will Lord Redwain decide to fill the ranks of his champions? Or will he simply leave Ser Loreia's shield in place to honour her match?

After the "

match up lord Redwain decides to close the lane while a decision is being made, after consulting with Alya first and both agreeing that the best way to do it would be to bring down Ser Jon Roxton shield, put "

Loreia coat of arms up for a moment and then bring it down, to put a Lannister shield, for Ser Tymon Lannister so the forth champion and challengers can continue.

New Champion: Ser Tymon Lannister.

Lane 4 Challengers Empty Re: Lane 4 Challengers

Post by Tymon Lannister Wed Mar 02, 2016 2:00 am

After having been bested in his previous match, Tymon felt fortunate that Lord Redwain had approached him and asked him to continue jousting in another lane where the last two participants had been unable to continue due to the nature of their bout. He had been grateful to Lord Redwain for the opportunity to continue in the joust. He stopped by the healers tent before making his way to the list to see Ser Loreia, "
Well fought Ser"
Tymon said to her "
You have set quite the standard for this grouping, I wish you a speedy recovery."

He then left the healers tent and re-mounted his courser and turned towards the list. He had been glad for the short respite and had spent most of the time talking with Lady Helen. After being unhorsed, her conversation and wit had restored his spirits and shaken the last of the cobwebs from his head and he began to feel like himself again.

Lord Davain Bartheld had also come to the lists to participate in this grouping and would be his first opponent. He had only passing conversation with Lord Bartheld to this point, but it had been amiable and the Lord seemed friendly.

Davain rode out onto the tourney grounds atop his destrier Henwen, wearing a fine piece of plate tinted brown with helm of a boars head. Trotting over to the stands with a smug look upon his face, Davain tipped his lance so that he might receive his wife's favor.

Taking his place at the end of the lane, Davain raised his lance in a salute to his competitor. As the flag dropped, he spurred his horse down the lane.

Ser Tymon and Lady Helen went through their usual ritual in the lists, and she wryly smiled at him as he swung onto his horse. He again thought to himself how lucky he was that his betrothed could lift his spirits after he had been unhorsed and knocked out during his last bout. Her words and smile had taken the sting out of the loss and restored his sense of peace and purpose.

Ser Tymon Saluted Lord Davain and moved to his position in the lists, closing the visor on his helm and focusing all of his attention on his next opponent. His crimson armor with golden highlights shone in the sun as he began his charge down the lists, with the thundering of hooves receding into the background as he focused on nothing but the young lord before him.

The Lances burst into a pile of timber as both men found their marks. Tymon's blow was impressive, but Davain managed to stay on his horse, but the impact of the hit defiantly caused some damage. [taking 3 injuries and 6 damage]

Davain's squire, Tristram Hightower, brought Davain another lance as he readied himself.

Lane 4 Challengers Empty Re: Lane 4 Challengers

(OOC: After a discussion with Reader I ended up not taking injuries in Lane 5, was knocked unconscious (running out of health) instead. I went back and fixed the combat post in Lane 5. I had done the RP update for unconsciousness in my last post in Lane 5 to close out my portion of Lane 5 and had given the proper accounting in the Lane 4 thread showing no injuries, but I had not gone back to the original combat post to show running out of health rather than taking injuries. Theo also, was kind enough not to maim or kill me as part of the defeat.)
