Baelon nods.
"
That all sounds quite reasonable... but what of Lady Kerry? That is the issue that concerns me most."

Re: Friends, Neighbors, and Broken Lances
Gwyn considered that for a moment, then said, "
I'm not sure yet how big a problem she'll be. Is she simply a child enthralled with games of rebellion and lust, blind to her role in the larger world? Or a willing participant in what she's been enlisted for? To understand that, we must know if she understands what she's doing."
She takes a deep breath and releases it briskly. "
So. We'll have to talk to her. Would you like me to be there, or would you prefer for it to seem as if you two were alone?"

Baelon sighs.
"
I feel like neither is a good answer... but for my sake, I would prefer if you were there. Just... go easy on her. Let's assume she is an unwitting pawn pressured to marry into a family she hates and simply seeking some comfort and acceptance. If it turns out she has wickedness in her heart we can find a suitable punishment for her then."

Gwyn breaks into a laugh at that, and goes up on her toes to give Baelon a smooch on the lips.
"You're so adorable. Go easy on her? What are you expecting me to do, knife her in the heart?"
She grins girlishly at him.
"I know how easy it is to be smitten by you, remember? I have some sympathy for her. And I'm sensitive to the idea that me leaving her strangled at her husband's bedside, and re-igniting a war that was VERY costly to head off may be exactly the plot behind all this. So don't worry. Lady Kerry has nothing to fear from me."
It was said with a straight face, but then again when Gwyn lied that's how she did it.
"When do you want to meet her? I'll make the necessary arrangements."

Re: Friends, Neighbors, and Broken Lances
"Not literally, no... but figuratively, yes. You've got a real sharp side to you when you feel threatened. It's actually one of the things I really like about you - unlike most noblewomen, you don't rely on others to solve your problems... but sometimes you can go a little too far."
Baelon carefully watches his wife's face, to make sure he wasn't going too far. He didn't want to be feeling that sharp side again any time soon.
"Ideally she would leave thinking of you as a friend and me as..." he struggles to find the right word. "Uninteresting? Undesirable? Something like that. as for when... the sooner the better, I think."

"Ideally, she'll press her husband to swear fealty to us and sign over her house and lands and..." Gwyn broke off with a sheepish grin. "We won't be trading in ideals, is all I'm saying. But don't fear for your young admirer. I'm not angry at her. Whether or not I become angry at her is entirely up to her, and I will do everything I can to encourage her not to move in that direction."

Re: Friends, Neighbors, and Broken Lances
"That is all I can ask. I just... I feel somewhat responsible for the whole situation; though I never asked for it I've not exactly established a reputation as a paragon of virtue. I don't want someone else getting hurt for my failings."
He shrugs.
"Besides, I've always found that people are much more likely to tell me what I want to know when they like me. I can only assume the same would follow for her telling you who she is working with."
He shrugs.
