Velaryons on the docks
After the royal audience, the Velaryon entourage rushed out of the Red Keep trying to reach their ship on the docks to flee across the blackwater bay. Having expected trouble, they brought a large number of guards with them and showed up armed and armored. With their pursuers close behind them, Ser Crispin ordered groups of armsmen to fall off the main group and slow down their chasers.
The strategy seemed to work, were it not for a small group of men around the newly appointed kingsguard Ser Jorah. Having noted that the Velaryons were prepared for trouble it quickly became appareant that the fugitives were heading for the docks. Instead of following their trail as others did. The small group containing Lord Baelon Drakeson as well as Ser Kevan Lyras followed Ser Luthor Largent of the Gold Cloaks, who knew the city better than anyone else.
They arrived at the docks moments before the Velaryons, managing to encircle them near their ships. However, the men were still outnumbered and the deparate situation made the Velaryons even more dangerous...

Re: Velaryons on the docks
Baelon looked at his foes. A dangerous bunch, to be sure... but he and his allies were as well. He stood in his black dragon-scale plate, his dragon-wing hilted longsword already drawn. Small chance they would surrender without a fight. If they had only kept their pleas to the king about Ser Vaemond and not mentioned the Velaryon princes.... they might have gotten off with a stern rebuke. If they had not fled, they might have lived out their lives tongue-less but breathing. Now, having fled and caused chaos, injuries, and probably a few deaths, they had sealed their own fate. The dangerous part was that the criminal Velaryons knew it too. They had little reason not to fight to the death. Fools, the lot of them. This mess was utterly pointless. Did they thing the Hightower Queen and Hand had that much influence over the King? Foolish again - if that were so Princess Rhaenyra wouldn't still be the King's declared heir.
Glancing at the giant of a man beside him, he thought back to earlier that day, when he met Ser Luthor for the first time.

Glancing at the giant of a man beside him, he thought back to earlier that day, when he met Ser Luthor for the first time.
[Dialogue approved by Reader]Baelon had intentionally arrived just a little late to the Velaryon audience... best to stay out of the King's line of sight, just in case. Baelon was a product of a time when things were not so good between Prince and King;
no need to remind the King of those times.
As he and Jojen approach the Red Keep, something doesn't seem quite right.
Something doesn't seem quite right. There are far more Velaryon guardsmen then should be needed for a trip from the docks to the Keep and back. And they have horses prepared? It seems that they are expecting to need a quick getaway.
"
You see it too. I shouldn't be too surprised, if what they say about you is true. You are Lord Baelon Drakeson? You look like him. Drakeson - a good name."
Baelon turns to see a large - a very large man armed and armored, and draped with the gold cloak of a city watchman.
"
I am he. And you are?"
"
Ser Luthor Largent, commander of the City Watch."
He grins. "
There's bound to be trouble, an' if I leave it to my second to deal with it he'll fuck it up for sure. He's a Hightower - th'only reason he got the post. It wasn't because he's any good, that's for damn sure. I wanted to follow the Prince to the Stepstones, but he told me to stay behind - someone had to keep the city safe, and it weren't gonna happen if the shit-Hand put a crony in charge... as usual, he was right."
Baelon smirks. "
I certainly wouldn't mind seeing a Hightower make a fool out of himself, but we can't very well let them escape."
Ser Luthor shrugs. "
No reason we can't have our cake and eat it too. It's not like we don't know where they'll be heading - and I know every alley and shortcut in this city. They won't get to the docks before us."
Baelon grins. "
I like the way you think. Looks like we're not the only ones expecting trouble."
He gestures towards Ser Jorah and Ser Kevan, who both seemed to have noticed the excessive Velaryon presence. "
They are friends, and I can vouch for their skill at arms."
Ser Luthor nods. "
I'll get some horses ready."
Baelon turns to Jojen. "
Prepare Fortis and bring her to Ser Luthor. When the fighting breaks out, stay back. You're too young for this."
He tousles the Blackwood boy's raven-dark hair. "
A few more years and you'll be more than a match for them... but not yet."
Nodding to Ser Luthor, Baelon moves to tell Ser Jorah and Ser Kevan the plan.

Re: Velaryons on the docks
Ser Jorah scowled;
this situation could have been avoided, but as per normal, there had been a rush of blood and a call for violence. In front of him, the Velaryons were trying to escape onboard a ship to who knows where. They had obviously known that their demands to the King would not end well and had prepared well for their escape, positioning troops to block pursuit, certainly long enough for their leaders to escape.
Only Ser Luthor's knowledge of Kings Landing had enabled them to bypass their measures and catch up with Ser Crispin Velaryon and Ser Alaryon Velaryon and their heirs Ser Mytros, Ser Dalyron and Ser Maelor. They had used their horses to catch up to them near the docks, but the remaining distance had prevented their continued use, so they had to finish on foot.
Encased in the armour of a Kingsguard and wielding the sword provided to him, they still felt a little strange to him, despite the fact he had worn them

Re: Velaryons on the docks
Ser Kevan was standing next to Jorah, the newly appointed kingsguard. They did not have to speak much, the situation was clear to both of them. Things went from bad to worse within a couple of minutes at the Red Keep, but thanks to Ser Luthor they made it down to the docks fast enough at least. He was relieved that he had sent Damian back to the horses together with Jojen. The boy was way to young and inexperienced to take part in this fight. The journey to King's landing had provided the opportunity to spend some time with his new squire and focus on his training, but this was not planned. Thinking of squires he looked back to Trelane who was standing behind him and Jorah: "
Trelane, stay behind me and Jorah and watch your back. They outnumber us and likely try to gang up on us."
Kevan was wearing his newly acquired armor - nothing fancy, the black metal was only decorated with a golden sun on his chest, but the plate was crafted a lot better than his previous armor. He relied on his usual weapons, he had briefly considered to trust his new blade, but with that many foes, a shield was likely the better choice.

Re: Velaryons on the docks
Ser Vaemond's son's moved forward but with caution, eager to maintain their discipline while still progressing to safety. All three clutched their shields tightly, the silver seahorse of their house standing defiantly. They knew their father had spoken truly, surely any man with eyes could see that? Still, there was much to be gained from carrying out the king's orders, even if it meant defending a lie.

Re: Velaryons on the docks
Ser Jorah surveyed the people in front of him.
"
Surrender in the name of the King!"
He ordered, hoping that when faced with determined foes, they would give up their flight. It was a vain hope though as he could see from their faces.
He moved forward and incapacitated the guardsman with ease, slicing into his leg, but leaving him alive. He was trying to send a message that this did not have to end with death.

Re: Velaryons on the docks
[OOC: I'm not quite sure where Ser Maelor is supposed to have moved to? 'M9' is not on this map. I'm guessing there was a typo or an auto-correct error. Unless he's going to Edinburgh.
His movement has not been reflected on the below map.]
Round 1
If they were going to surrender, they would have done so without fleeing. It is unlikely that they will receive any mercy after this.
Baelon moves to intercept Ser Dalyron, unleashing a defensive yet powerful blow to the Velaryon.
It's not the first time he's fought against those of Valyrian blood, but the first that involved true deadly intent. Such a waste.
"
We should have been allies, not enemies. Your father let ambition blind him, and you were fools to try to justify his actions. You knew the penalty for your words, yet you said them anyway."

Re: Velaryons on the docks
One of house Velaryon's able guardsmen rushed to Ser Dalyron's aid, but somehow the young Lord held off his assailants, using all he had learned from Prince Daemon and Ser Markus Elridge to avoid a crippling halberd blow.

Re: Velaryons on the docks
Concerned with the large number of opponents, Kevan quickly moved up to the closest man-at-arms. Using the momentum of his charge, he feinted a low attack but quickly raised his sword before connecting, knocking the guard out with a heavy blow to the head. He turned around to Ser Alaryon while raising his shield: "
Ser Alaryon lay down your weapons and yield, we are too strong for you"

Re: Velaryons on the docks
Lord Drakeson drew much of the attention of the Velaryon breakthrough effort, as first Ser Crispin charged him with a vicious overhand swing, then one of House Velaryon's Seahorse clad men at arms attempted to take advantage of the press of numbers against Lord Drakeson!

Re: Velaryons on the docks
Trelane moved up beside Ser Jorah. He hated this entire situation;
they were family, he had grown up seeing them regularly. The idea that they were about to die made him sick to his stomach. The others were doing the King's duty, but he had a duty to his family. Seeing Baelon in trouble, he came up with a quick plan to save as many people as possible.
"
We need to rescue Lord Drakeson."
he told Ser Jorah
He shouted to his nearest cousin. "
Cousin Alaryon, there is no need to do this. The King won't stop until he has your father and uncle, but the rest of you might be able to escape his wrath if you leave now."

Re: Velaryons on the docks
Ser Alaryon shoke his head ruefully at Trelane's words, but his words were rueful rather than contemptuous.
"
The arrow has been set in flight, it cannot be called back."
He swung his ball and chain in a blow that would have broken a lesser man's arm.
But it was Ser Kevan Lyras, House Marsten's redoubtable Keeper of the Gate himself who he faced that day. Ser Kevan merely grunted as the attack jarred his firmly set shield arm.
: 8d6k5+1 25
3 DoS = 12 Damage - 10AR = 2 Damage
End of Round 1
Round 2
Ser Myros moved beside his brother, attempting to wear down Lord Drakeson's guard so Dalyron could strike a telling blow. As had happened so often, Lord Drakeson's defensive style kept him from harm. Rumour said Prince Daemon himself had trained Lord Drakeson, the singers saying it was the only way he could recognise the boy without irking his wife or brother. Baelon's skills would not make the man who repeated the tale a liar.

Re: Velaryons on the docks
He saw Trelane's words fall on deaf ears and knew that they would have to fight them all. He had secretly hoped that the sons might have been convinced to leave, but it was not to be. Taking stock of the fight, he knew Ser Kevan was a redoubtable warrior and Lord Baelon was hard pressed, but even so, Ser Kevan would be hard pressed to defeat two knights such as he faced. He signalled Trelane to follow him, moving to assist Ser Kevan. Hopefully, they would be able to defeat them quickly.
"
Two vs One is not befitting the actions of knights,"
he both taunted and told them off, striking at Ser Alaryon a heavy blow that almost sent him reeling.

Re: Velaryons on the docks
Baelon is vaguely aware of his comrade's fight mere feet away, but his attention is on his own opponents. His sword and shield form a veritable wall of steel between the attacker's blades and Baelon's flesh.
I can't keep this up forever. Sooner or later one of them will get a lucky hit. If I am not careful the tide may turn and crush me under.
Feinting towards the guard and driving the man back, he brings his sword down on Ser Dalyron once again, hoping to capitalize on his previous success and break the Velaryon line that threatens to surround him. Unfortunate for the Velaryon, he misread the feint and stepped forward to press his own attack, adding his momentum to the strike. Baelon's sword catches him hard on the shoulder, biting deep into the young man's flesh.
Lesser Action: : 5d6 17 vs Passive Fight 16, 1 DoS

Lesser Action: : 8d6k5+1 28 vs CD 8, 4 DoS x 5 Dam/Dos = 20 - 10AR = 10 Damage;
