Re: Challenges for the Top 8
So, challenge works like Kevan picks his opponent, would number 2 then have to pick among the other four or is the intention that number 2 could wait to see if Kevan defeats his pick or not, and challenge the same one?

Re: Challenges for the Top 8
I was thinking the latter. It increases the odds that PCs get into the final 8.
If Kevan does not defeat his opponent, Jon could challenge the same NC, and so on.
EDIT: Oh, an just a reminder: These challenges,as well as the final three rounds are all using full joust mechanics, including maneuvers. I'll run the NCs.

The obvious choice to advance is Mallister, but is that the knightly option. I will wait for Reader's opinion.

Then take Mallister?
I think it's more a matter of the winds of fortune drawing Lord Lymond out of the hat than Kevan actively challenging him?

Re: Challenges for the Top 8
These challenges are quasi-ooc, a mechanical gloss on the actual events. Consider too that all of the options are seen as serious competitors. Lord Lyman is noted as a tourney knight (and has the benefit to prove it) and while probably not the favorite in the current tournament has had his fair share of victories. If you think about it, this is effectively the top 16 of over 500. All the weak competitors are gone.

Re: Challenges for the Top 8
so have we switched from it being a final eight to 8 lanes for challengers to choose from?

Re: Challenges for the Top 8
No, this is just an intermediary phase to get more PCs into the top 8.
Ben and/or Reader, we're stalled waiting for Kevan's joust. I can do the rolls based on his prior joust, but as I'm picking maneuvers for the NCs I'd at least want someone else picking maneuvers and deciding whether or not to use resources (I think he has Anointed?).

Re: Challenges for the Top 8
Anointed and BoA I believe. If he didn't use that in the qualifier.
Can always pick maneuver, more difficult when it comes to dailies, it's possible for Kevan to defeat Lyman here without using such things while probably not possible against likely opponents in the final eight.

I keep seeing both both Ben and Kevan pop up in the "past 24 hours" list and getting my hopes up.

Re: Challenges for the Top 8
I will be challenging Lord Forrest Frey. Thread incoming.
Quick question: With Anointed Benefit he can raise his PR by 5 once. What else can he do with that benefit in a joust?

Yeah, that's all it's gonna do for you, mid-joust.

Forrest Frey has it. Just curious if it provided anything in additional to a 1 round +5 CD, ID, and passives.

The mechanical parts, cutting off the fluff/description, are just "Add +2 to all of your Status test results. You gain a new combat and intrigue maneuver usable once each day. Spend a Free Action on your turn to increase Combat Defense, Intrigue Defense, and all passive ability results by +5 until the beginning of your next turn."

Re: Challenges for the Top 8
Yeah, in a joust it's basically just +5 to passive ride for one round - but it's once per day, so there's no guarantee that it will be used; if it is, Lord Forrest wouldn't be able to use it against a later opponent.
Of course, if he loses he cant use it against a later opponent, either.

Re: Challenges for the Top 8
As per a brief PM conversation, if there is room for one more -- and a non-knight, at that -- I'd love to give it a go. More practice for me, more visibility and practice for Aerion, everyone wins.

Re: Challenges for the Top 8
- OOC:
- I've bowed out, leaving three who can still challenge the top 8, which will leave one NC as a 4th wheel Aerion could challenge, whoever that ends up being. I'd say yes, but you'd have to wait for the other players to challenge first, since you're joining late. After that, because of how high you rolled, I'd be tempted to advocate bumping off an NC from the top 8 for you to replace without having to challenge. Whether or not you have to challenge the last NC is up to Baelon, though.

Given that Aerion scored into the #1 spot, yeah, I'm not going to make him roll a challenge to get into the top 8. Once the last of the current challenges is done, I'll just replace the bottom most NC with him. There are no IC benefits to it, and the challenge process is taking long enough as it is.
I also note that Ser Alfred Haigh has not made the transition to the new forum. If he hasn't made an appearance by the time that Jon is done, then I'm gonna say let's skip down to Ben. If he hasn't shown up by the time Ben is done, we'll just move forward into the top 8 without him. I would like to get this done quickly, there are still two other tourneys to finish up.
