Wow, Jon and Forrest are going on Pass 13 (maybe 14?).

Dat stamina.
I gave myself low expectations and have been pleasantly surprised by Jon (and Forrest's) resilience.

Heh, I had expected injuries to kick in before unhorse. Also expected those to hit Jon though.
But it's also a scenario where going with offensive maneuvers leaves Forrest exposed. And that one injury probably means he's slowly going to slip up.

Re: Challenges for the Top 8
I figured there'd be an unlucky Stay in Saddle roll by now. Plus both opponents have slowly accepted that in order to unhorse the other they'll have to take offensive risks.
At what point does fatigue start to set in. Not that I want a house rule or anything just wondering aloud how long could people keep that up before that lance and shield dip lower and lower.

Meanwhile, as much as I'm also enjoying the show, I'm just wincing with every pass, thinking about the Tourney Lance tab they're racking up, at 40 ss each attack (on anything but a critical miss). It sucks being poor.

There's 5250 tourney lances worth of cash going into hosting this tourney though.

Re: Challenges for the Top 8
Yeah, the smarter move for Lord Forrest would have been to go Defensive 2; he would still reliably get 1 DoS hits on Jon while minimized the number of stay in saddle tests he would have had to make. However, it would have stretched this out even more, and ultimately would not have mattered.Theomore Tullison wrote:Heh, I had expected injuries to kick in before unhorse. Yeah, up until you got that string of perfect and near-perfect results I was expecting this to be a minimal damage bout, ending with bad luck. Which it did, but the damage at the end got pretty severe, more than most jousts. Not so bad that it will have any long-term effect on Lord Forrest though.Jon Templeton wrote:I figured there'd be an unlucky Stay in Saddle roll by now. As Theo said, they're on the house. Also, after this you won't be nearly as poor any more.Aerion Storm wrote:Meanwhile, as much as I'm also enjoying the show, I'm just wincing with every pass, thinking about the Tourney Lance tab they're racking up, at 40 ss each attack (on anything but a critical miss). EDIT: Forgot to include the main thing I was posting about. The top list has been updated, and as Ser Alfred is still absent and Loreia withdrew, Ben is up next.

Re: Challenges for the Top 8
Well, I guess I'm the only sucker who poured a bunch of his starting money on double-digits of tourney lances and a mule and wagon to carry 'em in, huh?
Great jousting, BTW! Very dramatic, good stuff.

I'm sure reader wouldn't mind retconning that pre-play purchase if you ask. that's a pretty minor revision.

starting money, yes But later on Walton bought wagon, pair of mules to pull it, pair of corsers and destriers- one of each to travel and other for more knightly/lordly stuff, I guess. Only one of them doesn't have his own barding, except mules of course.

Re: Challenges for the Top 8
Heh, nah, it's fine. It's not the end of the world. I've already established his humble rounsey, breastplate, etc, anyways. No need to retcon it away, I've got ransoms coming in and a Reader thread in private where I'm spending the percentage of it not being given to Ser Harbert.
Upgrades will come in time. I'll just have a wayn full of lances with me at all times, so I'm ready to joust at a moment's notice. I kinda like what it says about him.

Fair enough! The light armor may hurt you in the quarterfinals, though. You know, if anyone can actually hit you.

Re: Challenges for the Top 8
Those two ride specialties really tip the scales in terms of unhorsing, in Jon's favor more than Forrest having +1D on him. Forrest can get the DoS advantage, but this is all about failing an easy roll rather than scoring DoS. And as long as there are no injuries in play, that is more likely to happen to Forrest, if he maneuvers away his chance at inflicting 2 DoS, then not only is he not able to inflict injuries to improve his chances, all Jon has to face is TN 9's, and it's the occasional 2 DoS hits with accompanying TN 12 tests that makes this almost even when injuries are not accounted for.
Eyes fixed was probably the optimal strategy.

Re: Challenges for the Top 8
Perhaps. The extra damage taken would never have mattered, as without aggressive lowering his PR Jon could not get 2 DoS, no matter his maneuver (barring daily BoA +2 or DP expenditure). However, Lord Forrest would still be routinely making ride tests, and the potential for a bad roll was the greatest threat to him.

Anyways, what matters is it was friggin' awesome. Nicely done, both of ya, it was fun.
(and, while I'm here, kudos to those who posted in those earlier jousts that just got linked to, too, btw!)

Re: Challenges for the Top 8
When Ben saw his draw, Ser Loreth, he only smiled and shook his head. He turned to Willum and with a laugh clasped the boy on the shoulder. "Gods, know that man is hard enough to drop when not on horse."

Great. I'll post his first maneuver in my private forum, if you can get a thread up and start on your first pass we can get this knocked out and onto the actual top 8 in no time.
EDIT Maneuver posted.

Re: Challenges for the Top 8
With Ben's defeat and Alfred still being absent, I am dropping Ser Loreth as the lowest remaining NC to make room for Aerion, who scored into position #1.
