Re: [Contest]Grand Melee
What kind of sword is it? there are examples of VS versions of all the long blades... though I doubt he's got an arakh.Reader wrote:Warrick Wheaton ... Valyrian Sword
EDIT: Does Ser Abel Redwyne really have a 2 Endurance, or is that a typo?

Rofl, typo on Abel, changed on my sheet. Nobody had met him 'til now!
Ser Abel Redwyne 2 3 4 2 2 2 3 5 2 2 3 2 4 3 2 2 2 3 2
Ser Warrick Wheaton has a bastard sword, not that I'm passing any judgement on the character's inspiration!

Baelon, a refresher on how to post the grid/map, please? It has been awhile and another forum ago.

Re: [Contest]Grand Melee
The easiest way is to quote the post with the most recent version of the map, then either copy/paste the entire map (including the code tags) into a new post, or delete everything but the map (and, I recommend, accompanying initiative list with status summaries).
This forum has a feature that makes modifying the maps actually quite easy. There is a button all the way on the right of the editor, the icon looks like a dog-eared sheet of paper. This is the "change editor mode" button. It is a toggle controlling whether the editor works like the old forum, just text with bbcode tags, or if it interprets & hides the tags, so it is like using a word processor.
I generally don't recommend that latter option, as it sometimes sticks tags in where I don't want them, and can be a real pain to use for general posting... but for editing the maps it's great, because instead of a jumble of lines, spaces and letters it makes the map actually a grid in the editor (at least on my computer it works great). Just be sure to switch back to the other mode before making any other edits to the post, as it tries to be smart but isn't, and will sometimes add code tags where you don't want them.
Also, I recommend previewing the post before you submit, just to make sure everything looks right.
EDIT: like for example sometimes it drops one of the three spaces in the first row, so use this version - the dashes in that first block won't be dropped. Again, this forum tries to be smart, but isn't.

Harrold Darke has Athletics 2?
Any reason why people wouldn't like to take out woman-wildling-knight and ironborn first?

I see 3, but that's still pretty bad for a (canon) future Queensguard....Ser Walton Dulver wrote:Harrold Darke has Athletics 2?
Also, Harold Darke was an organist & composer at the turn of the prior century. I wonder if GRRM knew that or if it's just a coincidence....

So, I can't say regarding the Ironborn, but Blacks are unlikely to want to target the Black symbol as a high priority - the better she does, the more she proves women can succeed at traditionally male areas.Loreia wrote:Politics (browsed the wiki)
Group 1: all Blacks (Longshore PC - unsure).

Re: [Contest]Grand Melee
Yeah, though I think that's true for all of them. I'd hazard a guess that Loreia, Darron, Jon and Davain got the better draw, while Aerion and Ben got the toughest luck. Kevan/Jorah possibly got the worst NPC's, but if Brynden and Lorent decides to go after each other first, group 2 looks like a place where a PC should be able to win, whereas that is a much more remote possibility in 3.

Re: [Contest]Grand Melee
yeah, it might be their wish to prove woman can be capable person on men's ground, but being beaten by woman on her way to that... Do You really think participants would put queen above own interest and reputation? I know those are different times for Westeros, but still.

Re: [Contest]Grand Melee
The smart ones would - a little loss here can mean favor that could lead to far bigger rewards later.
The prideful, not so much.
The true believers would not treat her differently than any other knight of her skill.

Yeah, Loreia can be a surprise to those that underestimate her, I just need Ereth to at least survive Group 5 which is highly unlikely lol.

Re: [Contest]Grand Melee
Depends who's side you're on. Those wanting favors with the Queen&Friends would gain it by kicking Loreia's arse. Those wanting favors with Princess&Friends would gain it by helping her to glory.
Those just wanting to win the damn thing would do well to let the former two groups whittle themselves against each other (and Loreia) and conserve one's strength.

Re: [Contest]Grand Melee
Actually, looking over the list of Group 1 NCs, Gareth Royce is the most likely to go after Loreia seriously, having something to prove.
Maybe Ser Myles, but not in an overly aggressive way - he wouldn't want to cause a conflict with an allied house.
Harrold Darke is a loyalist to the Princess (Queen R in the notes) and Lord Forrest is married to a strong woman, and is unlikely to take offense at them.

Re: [Contest]Grand Melee
In my group, I already got Lord mallister to deal with, I think Baelon and Ser Eoric will face someone else before they do each other or even help each other out. So for me in the end it comes down to beating lord Mallister and Ser Eoric or Baelon, or all three to win group 5, which I think is rather complicated lol. Not undoable if all mighty orokos smiles upon me.

Re: [Contest]Grand Melee
Given Ser Alfred Haigh has made it to the new board, perhaps best to sub him in for an NPC from one group or have him go up against a random 3 from the all NPC group.

I think most the other groups are reaching the final stages? At least the ones Baelon and I are running by the looks of it.

Re: [Contest]Grand Melee
In group 5 we are still in the first round, Ser Eoric has yet to act, and Ser Adrian Redfort has only passed.
Ser Alfred could be substituted in for either without much change (I'd vote for Redfort, but Im a bit biased).
