[D4 EE]Birds of song...and the other kind[Open*]
[*This is kinda a spinoff out of the singing contest thread, I'm taking it out to avoid cluttering. The present conversation would be between Raff and Daveth though, anyone joining will likely cut it short.]
A man with no distinguishing marks on his clothing, sufficiently well made to mark him as a trusted retainer of some house or the other, someone who would not be denied entry to the hall. Clean shaven and with his hair neatly combed, Raff have an appearance rather unlike what he usually does. He stands silently towards the back of the room, observing the many singers. As the ugly northwoman takes the stage he moves between the tables, in a rather snakelike pattern. Finding himself a stool right behind where Daveth had seated himself after his performance. He leans forward to whisper in his ear as she is finished with her horrible sounds. "
Mylord looks like he is a man that values the power of knowledge and information more than the steel these knights are so fond of..."

Daveth casually looks behind him to see who it is addressing him. Not recognising him, he turns the motion into a swivel of his body so he can keep an eye on his conversation partner out of the corner of his eye without making their conversation too obvious to others. He nonetheless spends some time memorising the man's features as best he can while they talk.
"
Then my appearance is honest,"
he speaks back, quietly.

"
I am but a lowly man of lowly means, mylord. But I have shadows for friends, and shadows have their way of holding on to things which other men would hide from the light."
Raff's face and tone is one of sinister mystique. "
And they are also sometimes willing to part with such things for a lord with coin to spare."

"
Coin can be made available to the worthy. Those who would claim such can prove it by giving some indication of what sort of things they've picked up that might interest me, and how much lighter a purse is required to receive said items."

"
I could tell mylord about the truths regarding the rumors of Ser Benjen Frey, if that would pique his interests?"
Raff answers, truthfully in fact, not that he would tell Daveth the full story of course. His voice and mannerisms adding to the mystique of what he knows. "
Or perhaps mylord prefers the sort of gossip surrounding the furious Frey's sister?"
"
Such tales as I already know, those will be inexpensive, hardly noticed by a lord such as yourself. Such tales as I must take the effort to learn, those I must charge more for, the shadows sometimes take it unkindly to those who attempt to steal their secrets, other times they require encouragements to part with them."

Daveth nods. "
Let us have a taste of the quality of the goods you have available. Give me what you have, and we'll see if I may be interested in further purchases."
Daveth subtly slips coins from his purse into his hand until he has two stags' worth, visible to the informant, but not many others. Sensing agreement, he divides the coin into two equal portions, and slips one across, indicating that the other will follow afterwards. "
Begin."

"
Ser Benjen forced himself upon the serving girl, this much is beyond a doubt."
The man's coldness when describing the event is rather unnerving, giving off the impression that he's seen worse, perhaps done worse? "
I was there, the places where drink flows freely are the places to go find out about the most recent gossip. I went out to take a leak, and I came back in hearing screams and commotion from upstairs. Ser Benjen's Men reacted first to it, though their efforts are likely in vain. And the tale gets even better, Lady Sofia Blackwood entered his tent, soldiers in her entourage, the tale told to me is that she accused him of having dishonored her doubly, and then she slapped him, upon which he struck her back with such strength that her lip started bleeding. For certain, there will be no union between Blackwood and Frey."
"
Lord Dunstan, a Blackwood cousin himself, have been assigned to gather testimonies, and for certain, there are someones with a stake in seeing Frey and Blackwood at each other's throats, and these people know of what transpired. If you are asking me, I would hazard a guess that someone wishes to see the Ferocious Frey in a trial of combat against a prominent Blackwood champion, perhaps Ser Tyron? Wedging House Frey against not only Blackwood, but Tullison in the process. But I do not speculate on who may stand behind this scheme and that scheme, I prefer sticking to what I know as far as the names behind plots and schemes goes."
He pauses, slids his newly earned coin into a pouch, carefully so that they make no sound as he does so.
"
As for the lady Floreta, I cannot say for certain, as we are dealing with Ser Theomore Tullison, my lord. A very interesting man, the shadows have their suspicions of him, but none of it is confirmed. A danger to his enemies without a doubt, wit and charm combined with discretion. What I know, is that the Lady Floreta offered herself quite eagerly, and my friend said that he did lead her to a place where they could not be followed unless my friend would risk give himself away....Ser Theomore most certainly got what he wanted, but did he seek that which was offered, or something else? Might be he took both. A clever man would leave her yearning for his affections, her ferocious brother might end his life on a Blackwood lance on the tourney grounds, and Lord Frey might need a new man to hold Ser Benjen's tower in his name, the pageant champion might indeed be a good candidate for that? But now I am merely speculating."
There it was, the bait, now let's see if the man would take it.

Daveth listens carefully to the stories being told. Hmmm. I'm still missing something. He glances at his informant, and hands over the other stag. Still, it wouldn't do to trust one unknown source too far. This is probably a job for Javik. "
Keep me informed as matters develop, and there'll be more coin for you. But do so discreetly - I have little fondness for making enemies. Similarly, if you dig up any word on any attempts to harm my house or members thereof, that would be of significant interest."

After a final look over his informant's appearance, Daveth turns back towards the stage, dismissing him.
