For the smallfolk MM Day 7 closed
OOC This is for Septon Arlyn and Nathaniel to meet and for the Septon to propose his plan, Reader Can I get a cost for sending a raven to house dulver from tully and then the decrease in price from the negotiate?
Septon Arlyn rose from his contrite position in front of the father Sometimes whom the gods send us help from comes from the least likely of places The septon thinks to himself, The seven say that all can be forgiven and that it is for the father to judge, I am but a humble sevant to his will, if he provides an opportunity to get our orphanage made for the smallfolk, maybe it will stand as good works on his scales come his judgement day. With that the Septon makes up his mind. He returns to his room and rummages through his packs for a quill and parchment, Writing his request to Lord Dulver about the plans he had made with Jon and the assistance he could gain on one scrap of parchment, and on the other he scribbles down,
Blue eyes,
Meet me in the Sept as soon as possible , I have need for someone with your knowledge and expertise,
Merry grouse
With that the Septon summons a small child that was cleaning the sept into his chambers. "
Now listen,"
The kindly fat Septon tells the boy, "
Here is a note to take to the boy Nathaniel, here is a copper penny if you deliver the note, you will receive 8 copper pennies if bring him back with you as fast as you can. Now be a good lad and run as fast as you can."
The Septon smiles as the young boy scampers off in search of Nathaniel.
The Septon himself moves off to the rookery and finds the maester Medrick tending to his ravens. "
Master, I have need of a note to be sent to House Dulver's Maester Falstan for Lord Dulver, Can you do this and send a fast bird, I hope to hear back from him before the end of the tournament."
The Septon makes a small choking sound at the cost of sending the bird and tries to negotiate a better price.

He pays the price he negotiated for then hurries back to the sept and waits for Nathaniel

Re: For the smallfolk MM closed
Nathan arrives at the Sept about a half an hour later. He is dressed simply, looking more like a freshly washed young stableboy than anything his reputation would imply. Upon entering, he takes the time to do short obeisance at three of the seven alters, first the Mother, then the Crone, and finally, surprisingly, the Stranger. After a short prayer and an offering of silver at each, he rises and turns to meet Septon Aryln.
"
Septon, I received your note. How can I be of help to you?"

"
Good morning, "
the septon smiles at the charity that the fresh faced boy provides. "
It occurs to me that I left in something of a hurry last night. I did not mean offense but there is a reputation to uphold. Here it is quite. Life is not as busy in the sept and we have more clam and time to discuss political matters.
Now it seems that there is not much support for your named lord from what I have gathered. Lord Dulver is very particular about whom he backs politically, However there are other interests in which Lord Dulver has a more willingness to take risks. For example trade."
After some more of his rambling statements the septon reaches his point. "
And so I want to build an orphanage for the children of house dulvers lands. However Lord dulver has made it clear that he will only provide assistance with my project if I can ensure that he will have expanded trade opportunities."
He turns to Nathaniel. I take it from your friends among the small folk that you have connections and information. I'm wondering who among the lords here might be willing to help the small folk and donate directly, or barring that, be willing to set up trade with house dulver. I do not have much in worldly possessions, but you will have my gratitude, "
looking into Nathaniel's eyes, "
And possibly even the ear of an advisor to the dulver house

Re: For the smallfolk MM closed
Nathan cocked an eyebrow and gave the Septon a soft smile. When he had received the man's summons, he had expect something a little more... urgent.
"
We are of the same mind in many ways, Septon. I support several worthy causes, either personally, or representing wealthy patrons. I may be able to assist you in this. However, you will understand that I usually fund such causes directly, and quietly. Due to my profession, the Faith and I do not exactly enjoy a cordial relationship. Indeed, I have had, on a few occasions, needed to use my wealth and influence to shield myself or others from some of your more overzealous brethren. While my faith in the Gods remains strong, my faith in the church is less so;
and I assure you, Septon, any conflict I have experienced has never been the result of animosity on my part. If I were to arrange any donations to the church, to be used for this orphanage or any other manner the Faith sees fit, I would expect something in return;
primarily a degree of peace and quiet."
Nathan thinks for a moment. "
Trade with House Dulver would certainly be another matter. Trade by it's very nature is reciprocal. If you let me know what goods your Lord plans on exporting, there is a distinct possibility I would be able to secure potential buyers, or at least traders in other Houses that could secure goods your House lacks."

The Septon sighs in great relief. Good, at least he understands my position The Septon cracks a smile and says in an apologetic tone, "
I am sorry for some of my brethren treating you badly. Sometimes I feel that there is too literal interpretations of the seven pointed star. For it is easy to point at the sins of another and forget the sins of our own. I understand the need for direction though. "
"
Lord Dulver has many things for sale, Two of everything is what the rumors say, he does have many things stored and knows where to find other items houses might be in need of. If one of your patron has needs of House goods, Lord dulver can provide."

"
There is another matter, concerning that of the smallfolk that live on Lord Tully's land."
Arlyn stops talking, taking a moment to think before launching into his next line of thinking, wanting to delicately and diplomatically say what needed to be said. "
I assisted with an interrogation of that poor old sod "
Holly"
Harry. Now what he said was mildly helpful to those more of the military mind but I found something else out that was quite concerning.."
Another pause, "
The guards mentioned that there has been a lack of coin for pay... This leads me to believe that Lord Tully is in some finical strain if he can not even afford to pay his guards or hire enough bodies to even temporally safeguard the guests and the guardhouse."
Chewing on his lower lip the Septons face begins to flush with embarrassment and concern. "
Will the smallfolk be safe here? Fanaticism is an ugly side of religion, oft leading to persecutions based on false interpretations of the holy texts. Is there anything that I can do to help bring these brigands to the Fathers justice? Preferably with the chance for them to redeem there honor on the wall? The faith militant tends for the darker side of warfare, preferring to target those whom can not defend themelves. This can not stand. The maiden protects those whom are innocent, and sometimes the maiden needs advocates that can assist those who do not have the strength or clout to act for themselves."
He looks piercingly into the boys eyes, "
Even people who do not necessary follow all tenants of the seven pointed stars should see to the safety of the small folk as much as they are able, Should they not?"

"
It is fortunate House Dulver wants for nothing,"
replies Nathan dryly, "
but it puts Lord Dulver in the unfortunate position of only needing coin. My suggestion would be to speak with Lord Lannister. The Lannisters are in the uniquely opposite position. Nearly all their goods are imported, and their only export, to my knowledge, is gold. I am sure that you might garner whatever gold you need from there, although Lord Jason Lannister is a canny negotiator, and he has the luxury of purchasing his goods from anyone and anywhere. You will need to think of some reason why he should deal with House Dulver rather than others."
"
As far as the smallfolk of House Tully, it is true that Lord Gorman Tully has been disadvantaged for coin of late. He has... overextended himself. Recently, some of his debts have been covered, but that does not put coin in the pockets of his guards, or food in the mouths of his people. Hopefully, the deals Lord Tully has made and the wagers Lord Tully has won over the tourney will offset some of his immediate difficulties. There are some that may make donations to the Faith, and perhaps some that already have, but with winter coming, I think the majority of Lords will look to their own people first, before bailing out Lord Tully and some of his more imprudent decisions. The Bartheld party did some good in raising morale for many, however the extravagance provided for the nobles will be noted and remembered long after the momentary respite given to the commoners."
Nathan shrugged. "
All good people do what they can, whenever they can, but if the politics continues as it has, or worse, if King Viserys dies, the smallfolk will have much more to worry about than a lean winter. Most noble disagreements end in the shedding of smallfolk blood. At least dying in battle is faster than starvation. You will think me heartless Septon, but since I know I cannot help everyone, I help those who help themselves. If any are in need of work, I can probably see them situated. There are many merchants, inkeepers and Lords who appreciate the strong and the willing... quite a few brothel owners too, come to that."
