If memory serves, Ysme was really young, wasn't she? Like nine or ten years old?
Corrine is more like 15 or 16.

Re: Character Creation Workshop
In this life, we have to make many choices. Some are very important choices. Some are not. Many of our choices are between good and evil. The choices we make, however, determine to a large extent our happiness or our unhappiness, because we have to live with the consequences of our choices.

I was under the impression, from the quotes shared a couple of pages ago, that she must be somewhere in her teens, since she apparently entertains suitors from time to time.
I'm leaning more towards Corrine now, as Ysme seems a bit on the mean side for what I'd like to do, and Corrine seems to fit well with my initial ideas, though I'd be tweaking her to be a bit tomboyish (and giving her archery skills).

There's nothing saying that Ysme has to be mean. In fact, she is probably one of the most flexible options personality-wise.
Also, keep in mind that Lady Isobel is quite traditional;
I do not think she would approve of Corrine being even slightly tomboyish. That's not to say you can't go in that direction, but the archery, for instance, probably would have had to be practiced in secret. I doubt there are many that would be willing to openly defy Lady Isobel to teach you once she put her foot down on the issue... she can be right scary when she wants to be. Think of Catelyn's attitudes about Arya, and then make Cat far more strict &
controlling...
Also, be aware that Corrine's hand is being sought by at least one PC (me). I have not actively pursued it much (mostly for time reasons, but also because I prioritize interacting with PCs over NPCs). I know some players are put off by such character-to-character romance plots, so I just wanted to make sure you were aware of that.
All that being said, it would be awesome to have a Corrine.

Re: Character Creation Workshop
I am a huge fan of PC romance, so I am not put off by that at all . I had intended her archery to be done in secret, though if her mother does discover it and put said foot down, that could be interesting dramatic tension. I think with Corrine, I'd not be going very tomboyish, just having the secret archery, being in favour of women's rule and inheritance, and being selective about the sort of man she will marry. Enough to mildly vex Lady Isobel, but not enough to be constantly a problem, if that makes sense.
I wish I could just have both characters, hehe. They both appeal to me.

Seconding the awesome.
And bear in mind that Gwyn would have loved to have been tomboyish, but (in my headcanon) was never really afforded the opportunity. Of course Corrine might have had opportunities Gwyn didn't, but just to say it wouldn't have been easy. Especially once Corrine became the heir.
That said, it's no barrier to a good concept! Just something you'd want to take into account.

though good luck on convincing Lady Isobel about having input on husband selection, never mind choice... you'd probably have better luck trying to subtly manipulate her opinion of a match than to get her to actually even consider how you feel about it.
Isn't that always the way? I wish I could play in many times the number of games I actually can, just to get to play all the different characters I want to play.kittendumpling wrote:I wish I could just have both characters, hehe. They both appeal to me.

Re: Character Creation Workshop
I've submitted my tweaked version of the sample Corrine to Reader for approval. All I did really was pull a bit out of Defence to pay for having some Archery.
I think she would definitely have hidden the more boyish part of herself once she became heir, as she would take her responsibilities seriously, even though they are not what she truly wants for herself. However, I think either Ser Gareth or another knight will have been giving her secret lessons in archery for a while. Might be a good reason for her getting close to Gareth, since I'm going to keep the crush on him.

That's more what I mean, I think. She may use the fact that her mother is keeping an eye on her closeness to Ser Gareth to make her more accepting of a match she might otherwise object to.

Hahaha...I like the awkward in that. Given that there's a decent chance that Gareth is my half-brother, making him a cousin of yours.

Yeah, I was reading the tangledness of Gareth's connection to the family, and the hint about Corrine's parentage too, and I thought "
oh yes, I'm having that!"

Awsome! Welcome to the house (that's probably a bit presumptive, but I've no doubt that Reader will approve of that minor change).kittendumpling wrote:I've submitted my tweaked version of the sample Corrine to Reader for approval. I'm not sure if Gareth even knows how to use a bow... though that probably could be tweaked without any problems. However, he is most definitely not a knight. Other than that I think it is an awesome character detail and reinforces the semi-illicit and possibly incestuous proto-romance. I approve! Of course, I'm going to have to crush the crush, so to speak. Charmingly, of course.kittendumpling wrote:I think she would definitely have hidden the more boyish part of herself once she became heir, as she would take her responsibilities seriously, even though they are not what she truly wants for herself. Yes welcome aboard Lady Corrine. Fyi Ser Benedict squired at house Marsten under Ser Markus. PM me if you would like for our PC to have known each other more than just from a distance. I have a close relationship with Markus, Gwyn, and Leopold already. Not on your mothers favorite list though.

Also, I see that you have a goal for Ben to have a romance interest. I would be up for filling that role. Baelon needs more competition. :;

Aww, poor thing. The path of love ne'er did run smooth.
If only the conversation in the Godswood wasn't closed. I'd love the awkwardness of Corrine wandering by just as you lot are discussing her and her suitors. :;

Re: Character Creation Workshop
Dang! You guys are active. Very nice.
I appreciate all the input and am still fiddling around with ideas/archetypes.
To the worries of a Braavosi female fitting, I had a great character concept that fit in well in a game based in Dorne, but that societal background was a bit more forgiving in terms of female bastards than one set in the Riverlands might be. I really came to like the character and was genuinley sad when the game ended.
I understand the concerns and have been struggling to find a logical way for it to work out, and in the end, it might not. I'm hoping to put some ideas down on paper soon and join you all asap. I definitely like how invovled everyone is.
Thanks again for the input!

Re: Character Creation Workshop
Welcome to Dragons Dance. Nichol, I have an idea I'd like to bounce off you. The info thread for House Bartheld only mentions Davain's uncle Kent once, and hinting at his love of wine. Doesn't mention where Kent's been and what he's done.
Perhaps Kent once toured Essos, visiting Braavos and Pentos? He may have had a few bastards away on this possible trip, or even found his wife there. This would make you the current Bartheld heir's cousin. After you happened, Kent sent his wife back to Essos for the duration of Daemon' Targaryen's campaign on the Stepstones, which was for a couple years, during which you picked up waterdancing in Braavos. When the campaign was over, Kent sent for his wife and daughter, who returned from Essos, and surprise, Kent! Your daughter's a professional fencer! You needed better training to match your age though, and your mother hired an instructor to teach you until you were 14(not current age).
This background would force your character to be no younger than a regular Adult(older than "
Young Adult"
in the PDF handbook). The war for the Stepstones was 106-109 AC, so you'd have been gone for 3 years. The Dragons Dance campaign takes place 15 years later, so keep that in mind that when trying to decide her age, if she started learning waterdancing at age 10(same as Arya Stark), she'd be between 25-28 years old in the Dragons Dance campaign. She could possibly start learning waterdancing in 109 AC at age 8 and be 23, but I wouldn't go any lower.
Feel free to decline this suggestion on the grounds of wanting a younger waterdancer.
