Melee groups
Let me know if you're not participating and I'll replace you.
Melee - every man for himself, but feel free to form temporary alliances!
- Melee captains (Baelon &

- Winner of each group progresses to the final and earn +1 glory.
- Overall winner earns another +1 glory, plus a superior weapon and a small purse of gold.
- Participants can make one "
catch your breath"

Aiming to start these matches on Wednesday to give them time to finish before the end of the tourney.

Re: Melee groups
He can take my place, I'm just a merchant, but I'll put up some fight if I have to, meager compared to other players, but will try.
Hendryk Pyke not participating, I'm sure he would like to bash a Mallister face.

I think you have someone you ought to insert for one of the slots that Theo and Riackard is leaving open.

Also, good suggestion to have Ser Hugo Rivers scheming in a fight scene rather than off camera.

Quick note on melee rules - you can take injuries but a wound, yielding, or running out of Health knock you out.

Re: Melee groups
Will the melee be fought with maps or just descriptions? If it's the latter, I feel it's very important that the placement of the combatants is made clear before and during the fight. Also, will the combat stats for NCs be posted as they were in BITW?

Haha, the whole melee systems with groups acting like "
phases"
of the tournament rather than initial alliances made the recruiting efforts by Kevan a bit strange :;

Re: Melee groups
Yeah, I was wondering how the teams were going to be handled. A proper grand melee with everybody on the same field at once would be a bit of a PbP nightmare...
I guess team vs team match-ups could have been done, but that would make it a very long event... not to mention the question of what to do with people not invited to a team.
I'm just figuring this as a PbP quirk and that IC nobody is going to notice.

It is a PbP quirk sadly. :;

If anyone wants to draw up maps (with everyone 2 spaces away from two other combatants in a circle) that would be ideal, if not it'll be handled with text.

See above on first question.
NPC stats - tempted to post everyone's full stats so people can help with the rolls and keep things honest!

Re: Melee groups
Well, at the very least, having the NC combat stats available means that we can move things along by calculating the results of our own attacks. If you want to go further than that, I would have no objections.Reader wrote:NPC stats - tempted to post everyone's full stats so people can help with the rolls and keep things honest!

Re: Melee groups
In fact, given a suddenly much busier real life (apologies everyone, family reasons noted previously - massive thanks to everyone for their patience), I'm putting out a call for help from the PCs in running the melee!
I'll be pasting the NPCs stats in to the melee group threads (already pasted in group 1) - feel free to pilot them. Many PCs are more available than I am at the moment, so you guys can make a huge difference here. My days of running 2 rounds of jousting in a single weekend are on hold!
NPCs will:
- Attack nearby characters (at the start, feel free to just roll 1d2 to have them attack either of their nearest two targets)
- However, note that if one nearby character is engaged already, they'll seek out an alternative target (even in Westeros, there's still some chivalry)
- Freely use fatigue, but keep their destiny back [I've noted noted it anyway, but feel free to petition me for its use]

Cheers mate. Editing the top post with their stats now.
The hyper dangerous NPCs should go for another NPCs first, in the name of fairness. Should be obvious who they are from the stats!

I've never run such a thing, but I'm willing to try. Unless I count as having a vested interest that would potentially create a bias, which I would totally understand.

Feel free to have a crack, even as just one NPC occasionally in a thread. You can always roll to "
decide"
who to attack.
Everyone - remember to knockdown, aim etc to give the NPCs some kick.

7 to a group is a real pain on a grid... 6 or 8 would have been MUCH easier.
I don't suppose you could pluck one from each group and make an extra group?
Throw in a random extra NC to get six groups of six rather than 5 groups of 7?
I'm trying to come up with a fair spacing for 7, but it is not easy.
EDIT: This is what I have so far, it's not quite fair to all 7 positions, but close.
You'll have to scroll to see it all, but in text like this it should be easy enough for everyone to edit their own movement in....

Re: Melee groups
Just for clarity's sake - I presume that the Vicious quality won't be used in the melee? If it is, Haig Bracken is going to leave a pile of corpses in his group...Reader wrote:Everyone - remember to knockdown, aim etc to give the NPCs some kick.
Looks pretty good to me. Having things be a bit messy does reflect the fact that we're seeing an ongoing fight a bit better. However, I have no clue how to go about editing movement into that grid. Care to enlighten me?Baelon wrote:

That's what everyone thought with what's his name, the Massive guy in BitW - yet not one person died.Jon Cobb wrote:Just for clarity's sake - I presume that the Vicious quality won't be used in the melee? If it is, Haig Bracken is going to leave a pile of corpses in his group...
Thanks - there is a slight advantage to being in the #1 spot as that is the only position to have two opponents starting 6 spaces away. Everyone else has just one, and the bottommost two share #1 as their only 6-distance opponent. Randomizing the placement would make sense, as the group lists are very not random-ordered. Not hard to throw the lists into [url:p682y7y8]https:Jon Cobb wrote:Looks pretty good to me.
//www.
random.
org/lists/[/url:p682y7y8] to randomize them, though.
Easiest way is to figure out where you are moving first, count out the rows/columns and put your character in that spot.... just remember to replace your old spot with spaces to keep the formatting straight. The 'preview' function is your friend on this...Jon Cobb wrote:Having things be a bit messy does reflect the fact that we're seeing an ongoing fight a bit better. Probably the easiest way to do the easiest way (heh) is to have a text document set to a fixed-width/mono-space font (e.g. courier new). Then you can just click the "
select all"
at the top of the code block, paste into that document, make your changes (seeing the map in correct proportions) then copy from the document into your post. Just make sure to put it in code tags so it displays properly.
From my days as a programmer I keep the notepad program pinned to my task bar, and I have it set to use courier new. Keeping a word doc or similar with the font set to courier new would do the trick too.
