A good soldier does three things- his duty, sleeping and eating- not necessarily in that order. So when Hugh was not guarding the queen and not sleeping, the odds were that he was harassing the chefs, looking for some proper food. Yoren, remembering clearly what happened the night before approaches Hugh with care. Walking through the kitchen he uses sleight of hand to pocket a few especially tasty looking pastries.

Approaching Hugh he asks;

would you mind escorting me to a table, I'm feeling that you'd like to have a word with me."


Flashing a smile he remembers what his mother told Alya;
The way to a man's heart is through his stomach. Settling down with breakfast he telks Hugh:

"
Neither of us appreciate the nobles way of dodging the issue, so here's what I brought you here for: I need a man of your calibre by my side. To the king one guardsman is easily replaceable, but to me your strength is vital. I want you to come with me and assist me on a critical issue. You will of course be compensated generously for this."


Yoren states before biting into one of the buns he brought from the kitchen, waiting for a reply.

The hulking Targaryen guardsman looked down at his new found friend from the Grand Ball, tearing in to a bread roll with his huge hands.

Yoren's flattery has piqued his interest, and he asks several probing questions as to Yoren's plans, and most importantly, what Hugh can expect to gain from participation.

Yes, you'll have supervision over several tasks. Strong men are a resource for my house, and few are stronger than you. You'll have your own room and be the second in command to Henryk pyke. You'll find him to be an able man and I hope you learn well from him. Whenever he's not available you will have his chores, training our men."

Hugh's eyes seem hungry at the prospect of advancement, but is successful in convincing him to seek permission rather than abandoning his post.

I'll ask my captain and see if we can't arrange a swap over the Spring, to foster friendship and such forth, as the fuckin' nobles would say."


He chortles at his own joke.
