[D1:ME]In times like these, everyone needs a friend (closed)
Weary from his busy day, and well aware that it isn't over yet, Baelon approaches Lord Haig for a chat.

Gwyn is at his side, where she's been more or less attached all day. She gives him a sympathetic smile and murmurs, "
Just one more hill,"
as they make their way to see Lord Haigh.

[OOC: oops! mollify doesn't get specialty dice. However, it does get disposition, so assuming Gwyn is affectionate towards Baelon, that is a hefty +5]

Re: [D1:ME]In times like these, everyone needs a friend (clo
Over the course of the conversation, Baelon puts his tongue - as silver as his hair - to good use, plying Lord Bracken with compliments and regaling him with tales of past glories. Lord Haig's attempts to steer the conversation towards a particular end do not succeed, and despite the encouraging words of his daughter - whom Baelon assiduously avoids looking at too much lest he see a silent invitation that he both does and does not want to see - Lord Haig is gradually overcome by the force of personality of the younger lord and his beautiful wife.
[OOC: I'm curious what the RP of Lord Haig's convince attempts was... might have been regarding... what might he be trying to convince Baelon of?]
I made a number of assumptions for the sake of expediency, though I don't think any of them actually affected the outcome, just the timing.
1) Assumed that Lord Haig's rolls included the +1D from his Read Target.
2) Assumed that Kerry Bracken's initiative was lower than Baelon's (optimal for mollify). Specific order of Kerry and Gwyn was irrelevant, so I just alternated Bracken/Drakeson.
2) Assumed that Kerry Bracken is Affectionate towards her father.
3) Assumed that when a primary was at full composure (and ONLY then) the secondary's roll was an Assist rather than a Mollify - same dice, different TN and effect.
Also, per the book, mollify restores Persuasion on a success, +1 per additional DoS. This is rather important, as persuade x DoS could make a high Will primary with high Persuade secondary nigh-unbeatable. As it is, there was only one round in which Lord Haig did not end at full composure, and none in which Baelon did not. Mollify may in fact be too powerful, leading to stalemated intrigues...
Round 1
HB - read target succeeds
BD - 24 vs ID 12, 3 DoS, 12-2Dr = 10, HB takes 1 frustration to avoid defeat: 7 influence
KB - 13+5 ->
18 vs TN 12, 2 DoS, HB +5 composure [net -2]
GD - No need for a Mollify, Assist: 20 vs TN 9, +2 to BD round 2
Status:
HB at 7/9, 1 frustration
BD at 9/9, +2 next round
Round 2
HB - 19-1D+3 ->
18 vs 9, 2 DoS, 6-4DR = 2 Influence
BD - 20+2 ->
22 vs 12, 3 DoS, 12-2Dr = 10, HB takes 2 frustration to avoid defeat: 4 influence
KB - 17+5 ->
22 vs 12, 3 DoS, HB +6 composure [net +2]
GD - 20 vs 12, 2 DoS, BD +5 composure [net +3]
HB at 9/9, 3 frustration
BD at 9/9
Round 3
HB - 17-3D+3 ->
9 vs 9, 1 DoS, 3-4DR = 0 Influence
BD - 21 vs 12, 2 DoS, 8-2Dr = 6 influence
KB - 20+5 ->
25 vs 12, 3 DoS, HB +6 composure [net 0]
GD - No need for Mollify, Assist: 12 vs TN 9, +2 to BD round 4
HB at 9/9, 3 frustration
BD at 9/9
Round 4
HB - 20-3D+3 ->
9 vs 9, 1 DoS, 3-4DR = 0 Influence
BD - 32 vs 12, 4 DoS, 16-2Dr = 14 influence, HB defeated

Re: [D1:ME]In times like these, everyone needs a friend (clo
[OOC: many thanks to Baelon for crunching the numbers. PM me to has out objective related stuff on top of the improvement in Lord Bracken's disposition - he's now Affectionate!]
Lord Bracken assiduously attempted to convince Lord Drakeson to favour House Bracken in the investigation and seemed particularly intent on the matter of the alleged damage done to House Darry's lands, claiming Bracken was more sinned against than sinning on this account.
Still, Lord Bracken was a better swordsman than a debater, and the Drakesons knew how to charm the boisterous Lord from their previous meetings.
By the end of the evening, Lord Bracken was toasting the anniversary of House Drakeson's founding and offering drunken affirmation that he knew his good friend Baelon would conduct the investigation even-handedly, despite being sworn to House Coldbrook. The Targaryens have ever kept to their own faith and dragons, thought Haig, surely good Baelon will not be swayed by House Coldbrook's antiquated tree worship?
Lady Kerry looked on, less inebriated than her favour and seemingly impressed by Lord Drakeson's quick tongue...
