An eventful return [Day 1 LA]
As Septon Arlyn and Luecian Longbow leave the Septry to return to the campsite they take a smaller, less traveled road to save time as the sun was getting lower in the sky. After creaking along the path uneventfully for a few hours they hear a crack. A few minutes later they come across a downed tree crossing the road with what appears to be two men attempting to move the tree out of the path. After Septon Arlyn asks if they need assistance in moving the tree the men inform him that the only assistance he could provide is stepping off the wagon with his friend and letting them have the cart, After Septon Arlyn informs them that they are here under the kings banner the men get a wicked grin and say "
Fuck the king,"
and the trap is sprung

Re: An eventful return
(OOC-Not sure on the initiative of the woodsmen/bandits, I'll add an attack if I win the initiative roll)
Luecian notes the two approaching men and scans the surrounding area looking for any hidden attackers. I'd have me some archers here abouts somewhere if I were these fellows. Knowing they're out there tends to make a man more confident. As the men and Septon exchange words he keeps his distance, stepping backwards slightly towards the back of the wagon. You're mighty good with words Septon but it'll be blood that settles this, not words. His bow ready, and an arrow in his hand, he tries to get the jump on the approaching bandits.

Re: An eventful return
OOC note: I can run the bandits, but I'll probably dispense with roleplay. Also worth noting that with those stats, using bows would be an inferior choice, so I'm thinking all axes/shields here.
[url=stealth][/url]: 5d6k4 19, well probably 17 due to AP but no matter, they escape notice.
Additional note being that in a situation like this, I'd generally say that bandits rolls against passive awareness as per surprise rolls, though so long as the stealth (which always is an active roll) is yet to be rolled, using active awareness is fine IMO. The issue might arise if you know their stealth result, because if it's higher than your passive notice, then rolling is a no risk option (barring potential critical failure).
At any rate, it's Luecian->
Arlyn->
Bandits (because AP detracts from iniative), bandits in the trees are hidden.

Re: An eventful return
Luecian scan of the woods doesn't seem to show any additional bandits but he knows they could still be hidden somewhere. Best deal with the two we can see first, then the rest will settle itself. As he finishes that thought, he lets an arrow fly at one of the approaching bandits wielding axe and shield.

Re: An eventful return
Sensing that these men would most likely not listen to reason, Septon Arlyn takes a moment to line up his attack. "
Warrior protect me!"
Bellows Septon Arlyn as he lunges forward at the bandit that did not go down, Using his momentum to help bring the ball and chain crashing down onto the last visible bandits chest.
Take a fatigue to aim

Re: An eventful return
(OOC- I was rightfully dreading the surprise attacks, but could have been worse.)
As Luecian watches his first target fall prone, his eyes widen in fear as he notices two new charging figures coming right at him axes raised for blows. He twists his body trying to take the blows on his armor best as he could manage but one cut a bit deeper than the other. Shaking off the blows, he moves around 5 yards to his right(fast) and takes aim at one of his new bandit attackers.

Aim requires a lesser action, he's still dead no matter which die you remove here. Presumably it's bandit 3 you went for? Bandit 2 is over by the Septon.

Bandit 3 works and good to know on aim. I'll note that as a reminder to myself. Let's say my movement was to around I7 if that works.

[OOCchanged my location to attacking the bandit still standing]
Took a shot at updating the map below:
With a heavy smacking sound the bandit brought his axe heavily down onto Arlyns raised shield arm and with a poping sound Septon Arlyns arm begins to go numb. Gritting his teeth in pain Septon Arlyn lets out a primal groan of pain Septon Arlyn takes a moment to ensure that his shot would blow through the warriors opening.

Re: An eventful return
(OOC-Sorry Septon, hang in there! Trying to take at least 1 bandit alive, so using a non vicious weapon against the septon's attacker, fingers crossed for a good roll.)
Luecian watches the bandit drop his weapon and attempt to grapple him but he manages to move slightly preventing the bandit from getting a good hand hold. He wriggles out of the grasp and notices Septon Arlyn reeling from another grievous blow from his attacker. He drops his bow, pulls a handaxe from his belt and tosses it at the bandit who had just attacked the septon.
*will take a point of fatigue for an extra lesser action to take the hand axe out(I believe that should work but if it doesn't seem correct, then I will spend a dp as a last resort for the +1b).

Bandit 2 defeated, Luecian chooses consequences,
Bandit 3 should have CD 6, and Arlyn's 2 fatigue should bring the attack down to 8, but since I doubt bandits are suicidial maniacs and you have ranged weapons, he YIELDS in the hope that you'll spare him.

Re: An eventful return
(OOC-Bandit 2 is currently unconscious as per consequence, we'll see if he remains that way)
Luecian takes a few deep breaths once the remaining bandit yields, picks up his bow and nods to the Septon's words. "
Reckon not everyone does Septon, sad truth of the land. You were right brave yourself, charging these bandits with abandon."
He gives a tired smile at Septon Arlyn before continuing. "
I'm all right Septon, though some scrapes and a good cut or two will linger for a few days I fear. Nothing that shouldn't heal after a few good drinks and some rest. Would be much appreciated if ya check back on the morrow and help me make sure its all mending as it should. I'm a knowing your a more practiced hand then meself at such things."
Walking towards the unconscious bandit lying in the road, Luecian watches the bandit making sure he is truly still. Arranging himself so he can view all living parties, Luecian begins to converse with the Septon once more.
"
Really only wanted to keep one of these wretched fools alive for questioning Septon. I'd be a mite nervous escorting 2 prisoners back with just the two of us. Less you have some something useful to secure em with in that cart, I'm thinking the first one you get talking gets to head back with us. And the other well... he can keep his friends company."

Re: An eventful return
Septon Arlyn takes a moment to think. I have a tent with some ropes with it in my cart, that we can use to secure the prisoners. But there is no need to let them know that, maybe it will be helpful in getting them to share what they know. "
Aye, Luecian, I do not know if I have anything in my cart that we could use to secure the prisoners. So I guess the one who gives us the most useful information will be the one who gets to join the wall right?"
Septon Arlyn takes a few moments, panting. "
But first I would think that they should lose their armor. There is no need for prisoners to be so well protected I believe. "

I noticed when we where at the Septry that you kept looking at people and seemed to be gleaning more information from their reactions. Also you seemed to be looking for something when we where attacked by those bandits. Can you tell me what you where looking for?"

Re: An eventful return [Day 1 LA]
Luecian looked at Septon Arlyn with a bit of surprise before considering his response. "
Well Septon, in me thinking there was a chance some of those folks at the sept weren't telling the whole truth. Figured maybe some of em might have a mite harder time repeating any lies to a man of the gods. Now that wouldn't bother some men, but it could cause a slight hesitation or nervousness to some...specially given the circumstances. For me if I'm watching a man or animal for that matter, its all in the eyes and the subtle movements of their face. Take these men who just surrendered, if they had spoke their fair words of surrender but their eyes seemed to shift to the left or right rather than stay engaged on one of us...I would have been ready to shoot the bastard as he likely planned to make a run for it momentarily."

Other times when you look around the area, sometimes its helpful to train yourself to slowly look around and consider what doesn't belong. When those bandits first stepped out, me eyes tried to scan the woods and see if I could spot something outta place right quick. Mayhaps a bit of leather amidst a a crowd of green leaves, a touch of steel contrasting next to the bark of a tree and so forth. Didn't work today as these were right sneaky bastards but its helped before, aye it has. Sometimes even the absence of something, say the cry of birds can alert you that something's around that might be a concern to ya. Might look ahead and try it Septon. Could take a bit to get the hang of it but its a handy skill to pickup. Notice anything up the road yonder that might seem outta place?"

Re: An eventful return [Day 1 LA]
Septon Arlyn trains his eyes forward, attempting to see anything that would be out of place. "
Well there is a bend in the road ahead. The wagon track seems to have grass growing along it, and it seems pretty tall in the middle of the track."
Septon Arlyn scratches his head. "
But what can the length of grass on a wagon track tell you about something potently dangerous?"

Re: An eventful return [Day 1 LA]
Luecian smiled at the Septon's confusion. "
Well sure would make one think this trail ain't seen many a wagon or horses travel it recently. Hoofs, wheel, boots...any of em would trample that grass down a ways. Considering our new companion's profession, might be none of said wagons that start this trail tend to get this far down it..."
He looks ahead a bit further, scanning the area more closely before returning to keep an eye on the prisoner walking ahead of them."
You keep practicing Septon, I'll help ya a bit and keep an eye on our awake prisoner."
