"
Thank you, Gwyn. I shall have Ben help me choose someone. Perhaps Ser Kevan or Ser Markus too. Good judges of character who I can trust. And I shall ensure mother doesn't get to interfere."

Gwyneth nodded slowly at that. She wasn't entirely sure it was for the best. Kevan and Ben and Markus...yes, trustworthy...but were they predictable? And Isobel would certainly have eyes on them. They were too obvious ways to Corrine's inner circle not to.
But she couldn't hold Corrine's hand on everything. Corrine needed to get free from Isobel, not...replace her.
A mental image of herself trapped in a solidifying throne of stone flitted through Gwyn's mind, interrupting her wry inner chuckle at the thought she and Isobel would ever have anything in common. She frowned a little and shook her head. A silly thought to have at a time like this.
"Do as you think best," Gwyn agreed. "I'll help if I can."
Then she waved a hand at the purpling twilight, where the moon was heavy and orange and low as it rose.
"A little longer, I think, before we should go in. The stars are coming out."

"Thank you, Gwyn. I'm lucky to have you in my life. At least there's one thing mother hasn't ruined for us."

"Not for lack of trying," Gwyneth replied with a wry smile.
"In my heart I have two sisters, Corrine. Not just one." She reached over to give Corrine's hand a squeeze.
"Now, sit with your sister and watch the last light fade...before I must go see to my son again before checking to make sure dinner's ready and..." Gwyn laughed. "...all the other things a hostess must do. It's waiting, but it can wait another few minutes."

Corrine smiled, and watched the stars come out with Gwyn, keeping hold of her hand until the time came to go inside.
