"
They attack and quickly move back, stealing what they can. We have regular patrols that keep them of our lands. Rock Chewers and Bloody Hands they call themselves, because one group of imbeciles chews rocks in order to make them strong and the other likes to leave a bloody hand on our walls."
Dunstan sights at their apparent stupidity
"
And they are divided among themselves, fighting each other like animals. To state an example, they would throw a bunch of boulders from a crevice onto our patrols and steal what little equipment they can and leave. Or take some prisoners under cover of the night and escape like cowards."

"
Then if the Marsten campaign is against a similar threat, they will fail to do any significant damage, for they will never engage you as soldiers will, for they do not fight in a conventional sense of warfare. While they may find their camps all they will kill are few stranglers, for they know the terrain better. You want to get rid of them, only wait to do it is to lure them and find their main camp at the same time and scatter them to the wind"
he shrugs his shoulders "
Other than that, you will never get rid of them, all they will do is hide and move until you are gone, and strike in the lands of neighboring lords that have reduced military presence, since they joined the campaign. I would be worried of what two clansmen warbands can do if they clash in your lands while some of your troops are gone, the damage to your smallfolk and lands will take long to repair."
Athelstan looks square in the eye, while you could protect some by hiding them inside your holdfast the damage and pillage of your lands, is still a major issue, so you will need to have at least a garrison to deter them from taking your hold fast and a unit or two of men give them combat. I also hope your smallfolk can fight"

Yoren has been focused on his soup with great determination, now that it is all devoured he looks up: "
how about simply securing a perimeter, making sure that they cannot raid for food? That will surely starve them out of hiding, although it may take some time... Have this been tried?"

Ahtelstan puts his palm in his face and slides it down slowly rubbing his chin "
Lord Dunstan already has patrols for this, but the problem won't go away Yoren, all patrols and garrisons have holes in them and if we are talking about a large area, where your enemy dominates the landscape beyond your border it won't work. Now if you make a human wall, you will stretch your forces thin and all they need to do is focus on a spot and break through, by the time you try and stop them its to late, and they will just break out on another point and escape"
by the Drowned God, did he ever reave, he cannot be this stupid, it is basic raiding tactics you get thought when you are past ten, when you are used for your size to scout ahead, I feel better knowing you are not commanding anything just taking orders...
"
You cannot starve them out either, all they will do as spread further elsewhere, this people are survivors Yoren"
shaking his head "
The best way is what I say lure them with enough temptation so they come out in big enough numbers and destroy their main camp. If you fail to destroy their camp, you will be rid of them for some time, but they will come back again, is a temporary victory nothing else, that is if another tribe doesn't take their place or just takes the survivors in."
