[D6, EA]Meeting Maester Forthwind (Closed)
Bottle of very good Dornish Red in hand, Daveth stands outside Maester Forthwind's tent.
"
Maester Forthwind? It's Daveth Coldbrook. You agreed to meet with me?"
he calls into the tent.

"
Yes, yes, come, come,"
if it was possible to hear the jowls in a shouted comment, then Daveth heard them,
The rotund maester sat at a rectangular desk, a quill in one hand and a chicken leg in the other. He gestured for Daveth to sit in the chair opposite with his chicken-sceptre.

Daveth enters. "
Thank you, Maester."
he proffers the wine as he sits. "
I hope you'll find this to your liking.
"
How has the tourney been for you and yours thus far, Maester Forthwind? Are you well?"

He waves a hand dismissively.
"
Troubles lay siege to my door, but nothing a good bottle of wine won't dispel."
He looks at the bottle of wine in mock surprise, casting aside his chicken leg for comic effect.
"
And what have we here! A fine bottle of wine? The Seven answer my prayers."
He takes two cups in his meaty hands, pouring a glass for each of them.
"
And what of you, Master Daveth? Does a similar horde of concerns besiege you?"

"
While I don't like to complain, it is indeed so."
Daveth replies as he takes the offered glass with a nod of thanks. "
Our house is small, so I fulfil a number of roles as best I can - acting maester, diplomat, and assistant steward being the big three. And all come with their own problems, worries, and concerns. Particularly the former, it must be said."
with a smile as he sits back. "
Honestly, you maesters make some awfully big shoes to fill, even if the intent is only to do so temporarily until we can get a proper one, it's still a remarkably difficult task to even manage the fundamentals."

"
Kind words Master Daveth."
"
Mayhap if you were a fourth or fifth son we'd add an e to that title, eh?"
His chins shake with mirth.
"
The training at the citadel is long and hard, and we simply have to focus on being maesters."
"
If you fulfil a tripartite role, I hope you are at least a competent enough negotiation to claim three set of rations and three stipends!"
More laughter. Would that everyone else found Maester Forthwind as amusing as he finds himself.

"
It could perhaps have been so. But while I do enjoy my studies, you pay a high price for your knowledge, so I certainly can't say it's been a pure loss."
Daveth chuckles along with the Maester's jest. "
Still, our words do link in with what brings me to your tent. As I'm sure you've already guessed, it's part of the maester's arts.
"
Ravens. Key to our communications. But - I hope you'll pardon my language - a right bugger to train properly, for all that you seem to make it look easy. Thus far this tourney, I've been able to get a book to give me the information I lack, and I've been able to secure a fully-trained raven to be an example. But what I need is the knowledge that's *not* in the books. I've consistently found there to be a 'gap' between the theory and reality that never seems to make it onto the written page for some reason.
"
You've had some very flattering words said about you, and I was hoping I could find a way to convince you to fill in the gap for me."
