Re: Character themesongs
I will always be reminded of Tangled when I see or hear the phrase "
mother knows best"
. They are fused together forever.
I usually go for fantasy tracks or game tracks, but in the world of Ice and Fire, none of the characters seem to have their own themes - or at least, HBO gives few characters their own themes, or family themes, and I'm not one for creating themes for characters that might not live very long in the real time spent playing a campaign. What I take away from Ice and Fire is that its far less about the people who play a role in the shaping of the kingdoms and countries, and more about those places. Which is why we see horrible events up close and personal more often than in other fantasy works.
I've got a couple in mind for Loreia, but I'll keep them to myself for now, muahaha.

Re: Character themesongs
Man, if only Dyana was an archer, the would be perfect. The song, on the other hand, is only getting half the way there.
Poor Daveth, lol.
No, Corrine. Just, no.
Powerful stuff there. On a side note, the Fuckin' gorgeous.Jon Cobb wrote:I'm on an eighties spree at the moment, so here's one for our gender role-defying heroines Loreia and Dyana:

At first, I was like, "Daveth Coldbrook wrote:Maybe for Dyana, regarding the Daveth romance? (Though there's at least one verse there that could apply to Daveth, so maybe a duet? )
what the hell is this?"
, and then I was all "
this has nothing to do with anything!"
. But as the song reaches its latter half, it makes more and more sense. In the end, and especially after the break, I think it does a quite good job of it.

Empty Chairs is a good song for past-Jon, present Jon (particularly with Dyana and/or Isobel) is more like:

Hah! Most definitely, and there are likely many more to come. It's a good thing he has a balanced outlook on life to keep him going:Theomore Tullison wrote:I do think Jon's had at least one moment of this:

Hey, I'd totally forgotten about this song. Thanks for reminding me! But as a Jon song, I think the lyrics are bit too creepy.Baelon wrote:Empty Chairs is a good song for past-Jon, present Jon (particularly with Dyana and/or Isobel) is more like:

In fact, the way things are going, it seems more likely poor Jonny will be stuck at this stage:

And then he'll be right back here (complete with nonsensical break and then re-start at 2:10):

Re: Character themesongs
Yes Jon, I picked the song for those lyrics... in fact, I had one particular line in my head for hours but I couldn't remember what song it was from. I didn't have the words quite right so my net searches were coming up empty...
I had been thinking of Owner of a Lonely Heart (such a great song) for Daveth...
Sung by Red Oni, with the the interjection lines "
much better than... owner of a broken heart"
being sung by Blue Oni.
The break makes sense - indeed, is practically necessary - in the context of the larger video. It is one of the most deeply symbolic music videos of all time, and much of it is set up during that break. The break establishes the animals as agents of death-as-transformation rather than death-as-suffering. It also sets the stage for the initial transition from color to greyscale. The color transitions are extremely important to the meaning of the video - it marks the main character' transformation from passive drone to active individual. Note how the main character is dragged from the crowd in greyscale, then later chooses to leave it in color.
Ah memories - I was first introduced to this song &
video in one of my undergrad classes in which we analyzed it (and other music videos, film scores, etc.) It was a transitional time for me, so the song really resonated.

I think I've found mine:

Like, almost every single line of the lyrics fits my vision of Theomore.

That may have been running through my head as I wrote it.
The original Broadway recording though, as I bought the soundtrack a long time before the movie existed.

No idea why watching this reminds me of Nathan, but it does.

Re: Character themesongs
I don't think it's all that mysterious - my French is a bit rusty, but if I'm understanding the song correctly it's all about seduction and loss of self-control and inhibitions in the context of a practice which is officially frowned upon but known to be fairly widespread - alcohol in the US prohibition era (as indicated by the outfits and the cop being turned away).Nathaniel Mason wrote:No idea why watching this reminds me of Nathan, but it does.
Nathan uses seduction to weaken his target's self-control and lower their inhibitions, in the context of a practice which is officially frowned upon but known to be fairly widespread - homosexuality.
The song is written from the perspective of the subject of such seductions - going crazy little by little, unsure whether to stay (and give in to the seduction) or go (and preserve their autonomy).

LOL
French is the second most spoken language in Canada at 30.1% and Spanish is the second most spoken language in the US at 11.5% next to English.
Hardly foreign... except perhaps to a Brit where the second most spoken language is Polish at 1.5%.
The song is also available in English, but in my opinion it loses something as is not nearly as good.

I have not yet found the right song for Corrine. I will ponder.

Re: Character themesongs
Well, to be a little bit frank, Corrie hasn't really sticked her head out far enough in any direction to show defining characteristics that makes it easy to find a fitting song, internal train of thought or IC actions and words.
Daveth on the other hand is very easy, like this one:

Re: Character themesongs
I disagree, and I think that's very harsh. She has "
stuck her neck out"
several times, and I make a point of writing her thoughts and feelings as fully as I can.
I'm sorry you don't like her, but that's no need to be mean and rude, just because you don't see her personality and achievements.

Re: Character themesongs
I don't know why I didn't think of this one sooner, especially since I inserted it as an in-world song ages ago. I think this fits Corrine nicely, in her goals and self-esteem.
There is also that the song is from the Brave soundtrack, and Corrine has a number of things in common with Merida;
archery, wanting to be her own person, wanting to have a say in her future, especially in who she eventually marries, a love and fierce loyalty towards hrr family, and a tense relationship with her mother.
