Baelon deflects Ser Arryn's forceful blow with his shield, but the impact of the heavy blade sends a jolt of pain running up his arm.

Using his shield to leverage the greatsword out of the way, Baelon swiftly lashes out with his sword, striking the Vance knight squarely and powerfully.

OOC: Hi Septon, welcome back! Jon won't be attacking Medrick, since I've decided to leave the game. ([url=Link to a post about that][/url])

Since Dyana hasn't yet responded with how she wants to proceed, and she earlier indicated the RL concerns have kept her from posting much, I think it's best just to end things quickly. Therefore, I'm taking one of the resolution options I already offered Dyana via PM - Jon burns a DP and is killed by her attack. AAaargh... Razz

Knight of Stones
Initiative: 14

Ser Jon parries the first lunge, and the Knight of Stones takes a step back, his grip on the hilt firm. They eye each other for a moment, and Jon seems weary, but second after the second the combatants poise for another attack. The mystery knight advances, his visor lowering to his opponent's legs, his movements all but suggesting an attack there - not so much that it seems deliberate, but not so little that it'd be hard to notice. A feint;
in truth, once in striking range, he'd lash his sword upwards and ring against the Wrecker's helm, stepping to the side while his enemy stood off balance and attacking again from there. A winning strategy, surely.

Ser Jon also steps forwards, his advance that of a wounded boar - powerful, fierce, desperate. He prepares to strike low against the mystery knight's shield a second time, rendering it useless and giving him time to reposition. It'd be a close confrontation.

Alas, his attack was also a feint. At the last moment, the Wrecker held his mace high and back, opening his guard to swing a crushing blow from above. He'd taken note of the Knight's perceived lunge, and had his left leg positioned further back, but he missed the bluff there. The mystery knight was faster - much too fast, indeed -, and the Wrecker's nearly stretching position met the sword at an odd angle. The blade found an opening beneath the helmet, and at the neck there was not mail nor leather, but flesh.

No!

Blood soared high, splattering the ground north of the two fighters in the crimson afternoon.

Jon's mace stood idle for a moment, held above his head, but it then clattered to the ground with a heavy thud. More blood squirted from his neck as his hands searched for a way to stop it - gauntlets scratching uselessly at his own throat. "
No...!"
the mystery knight said aloud, and those nearby could hear the softer timbre of... his voice. The Wrecker seemed to notice it, too, and beneath his helmet his eyes went wide as they stared at his killer. The warrior began to collapse.

"
No!"
said the Knight of Stones again, even louder this time, and he abandoned sword and shield to the sides as he stepped forward to embrace his victim and ease his fall. He hastily removed and tossed away Jon's helmet, but the man was already making gurgling sounds as blood came out of his mouth. His neck and breastplate were completely red at this point, but even as his life waned, he looked up and saw the misty emerald eyes that stared at him from under the Knight's helmet. Jon's face was hard to read, and one of his bloody hands reached up to touch Dyana's helmet before falling down.

And the Wrecker on the Bridge was dead, and his killer, on her knees, held him and wept.

Baelon saw the flash of bright red in the afternoon sun, but for a few seconds - oh how it felt longer than that! - his view of Jon and Dyana was obscured by Ser Medrick's steel-shod back.

Oh gods, no. Don't let it be... Gwyn would be devestated.

Then the massive Manderly shifted again, and Baelon saw the armor-obfuscated Dyana cradling the blood-soaked wreck of Wrecker Jon. His relief was palpable, a panic-induced tension in his shoulders that he had not even noticed letting go. Then a stab of guilt.

I may not have approved of how he lived his life after the stepstones, but he was one of my father's men, and a hero of my youth. I should do him more honor than 'better him than her'.

OOC: I am going to delay until after Ser Medrick's turn.

EDIT: Ok, I thought that would take me longer/Ser Medrick's turn would be done immediately... so IC response to the death scene added in here.

Still in shock at the accidental repercussion of his attack, the mystery knight slowly eases Ser Jon's body to the ground. He kneels there for a moment, staring at the slain Wrecker, before half-heartedly grabbing his sword and slowly coming to his feet. Slouched, his helm's visor eventually turns to gaze at Florian and Baelon, but the mystery knight seems to have lost the will to fight.

The Knight of Stones glares up at Ser Florian, and hesitates. He just stays there, slouched and holding his weapon and shield, as if considering yielding. Ser Baelon appeals to him, to stir his fighting spirit even in the face of what had happened, but Ser Baelon wouldn't know the true implications of this. It was so much worse than...

With a sigh, the mystery knight spared another glance at the corpse beside him, and straightened his back. A foot shifted backwards, getting back into stance, but he still didn't seem completely sure of his decision, and instead of advancing on either of the two men, he merely poised his shield and waited.

The Knight's foot darts forward immediately - though he may have been momentarily stunned, the man was a veteran of form, and an overhead swing is a good way to spur muscle memory. He lashes his sword at Ser Florian, some part of him still worrying about not cutting any of his opponent's vitals - which could be hard against the experienced Greysteel, even if the mystery knight wanted to.

Baelon relaxed a bit as Ser Florian and his future wife's sister crossed swords. Gwyn would never forgive him if he let Dyana get hurt, but he had seen her fight before and was confident she could handle Ser Florian well enough on her own... at least for a while.

This will be good for her, keep her mind occupied and off of Jon. She probably needs that right now. Theres's nothing like razor-sharp steel to focus your attention.

Round 7 - and reaction to Ser Florian's attack
Knight of Stones
Initiative: 14

The Knight of Stones deflects Ser Florian's overhead swing with difficulty, his shield-arm injured from a savage blow the Wrecker had dealt him. Still, the blade drifts to the side, and the mystery knight thrusts his own sword. When his opponent raises the shield to defend himself from the straightforward attack, the feint is called - the Knight's rear leg arcs forward, dragging up dust as it sweeped below the Greysteel's feet.

As Ser Florian topples backward and crashes into the ground, the Knight is already upon him, aiming his pommel at the opening in his foe's helm, to break a nose or stun him. Florian is quick to roll away from the attack, but no sooner had the crushing descent missed than the Knight lashed his blade in pursuit, drawing blood from Ser Florian's unprotected elbow.

Panting and sweating, the mystery knight's eyes spare another quick glance at Ser Jon Cobb before coming back into focus. He glares at Ser Florian, poised in a warrior's crouch.

Analyzing the Greysteel attack: Ser Florian rolled a 17, counting the fatigue my counterattack imposed. On top of my currently 7 CD, that's a 10, or 3 DoS. With 5 damage per DoS, it becomes 15 damage, but it's lessened by my 8 AR to a 7, which I can just barely take, being reduced to 1 health.

Florian was a skilled jouster, but almost as dangerous with a sword. Despite having been shunted to the ground he thrust upwards at Dyana Marsten. However, his awkward position leaves him at a disadvantage, and he strikes more poorly than a man of his calibre would expect.

Baelon watches Dyana, in her guise as the Knight of Stones, almost effortlessly knock Ser Florian down. She was clearly in control of this fight for the time being.
She's definitely got the advantage of skill on him, and I wouldn't dream of denying her the opportunity of taking down a knight with a reputation like Ser Florian's. I wonder how he would act if he know he was being trounced by a woman... not that I'd ever tell him.

The poorly aimed attack was still dangerous enough to give the Knight of Stones pause, and he had to make an exhausting effort to stand back in the middle of his already advancing lunge and position his shield for defense. Tired and feeling his left hand begin to go numb, the mystery knight takes a moment or two to step up to his enemy again, unwittingly giving time for Ser Florian to stand up.

Still, the awkward effort of his opponent to scramble back into position gave him an opening, and with careful footwork the Knight approaches and takes a shot at Ser Florian.

OOC: Well then, using that fatigue point I re-earned for my mistakes to diminish the hit to 1 DoS - and thus nullify the damage.
