Round 6 - Haig Bracken
The "
Beast of Bracken"
is quick to retaliate against Ser Benjen, using his greatsword to trip his opponent, but his attempt to pin his foe to the ground fails as Benjen rolls out of the way at the last second. Lord Bracken's breathing is heavy - for all his earlier bravado, it's clear that the fighting has taken its toll on him.

OOC: It's been a swingy round all round. Both Benjen and Haig whiffed their attack rolls pretty badly, though it hurts more for Haig - one more pip on the dice and he would have been forcing injuries on Benjen that would really have set him back... Sad

Round 6 - Benjen Frey
Knocked to the ground by Lord Bracken, Ser Benjen keeps his wits about him and tries to return the favor. Lord Bracken's knees buckle from the "
Ferocious Frey's"
kick, but he manages to stay on his feet. The failure of his attempt convinces Ser Benjen to fight more cautiously, and though he breaks through Lord Bracken's guard, his sword thrust cannot penetrate his opponent's armor.

Round 7 - Athelstan Pyke
Athelstan kicks out at Ser Benedict's knees, bringing him crashing down, but the fall throws off Athelstan's aim and his axe blow appears to slide off Ser Benedict's armor without causing any lasting damage.

Also, dispensing with the map until one or more combatants move. Since everyone but Haig Bracken is now knocked down, that seems unlikely in the short run. Smile

Round 7 - Haig Bracken
Lord Bracken unleashes a series of quick thrusts at Ser Benjen, designed to find an opening in his enemy's guard while not exposing himself unnecessarily in return. Finding his opening, Bracken's greatsword darts towards "

right arm, but at the last moment, Ser Benjen is able to deflect the thrust with his own blade.

Round 7 - Benjen Frey
Ser Benjen feels himself tiring rapidly. Another attack like the one he just averted and he's in danger of serious injury and defeat. Throwing caution to the wind, Ser Benjen decides to drop his guard and try to finish the match in one fell swoop. Rolling to his knees, he thrusts his longsword with all the force he can muster at Lord Bracken's groin, but at the last second, Lord Bracken shifts his position and the strike clangs uselessly against his cuisse instead. The "

curses loudly, fearing his doom is upon him!

Round 8 - Athelstan Pyke
Athelstan's face contorts into a feral snarl as he watches the blood pump from his leg wound, and for a moment it seems that he will risk all with one last blow, but suddenly his expression changes and he falls back to the ground. Laughing madly, he answers Ser Benedict's entreaty: "
It seems your gods are truly with you today, Ser Benedict! You're right, I'd best end this now before I become Athelstan Pegleg as well as Athelstan One-eye! I yield, Benedict Blackthorne, I yield!"

Round 8 - Haig Bracken
The "
Beast of Bracken"
is quick to take advantage of Ser Benjen's failure. This time, his aim does not fail him, and he brings the pommel of his greatsword straight down onto the "
Ferocious Frey's"
helm with all of his considerable strength, crushing it as if were made of tin. Ser Benjen crumples to the ground with a gurgling sound.

Breathing heavily, he calls out to Ser Benedict. "
See that, puppy? I'm as good as my word. Ser Benjen is dealt with - just you and me now. Does your honor extend to allowing a man a moment to recover his breath, before we duel?"

"
You've an unsightly spring in your step, puppy. It's almost as if you'd only been putting down wounded beasts in this melee!"
Lord Bracken says with a barking laugh as Ser Benedict jumps to his feet. "
I must admit I'm a little tired myself, so if you don't mind, I'll wait right here to see what tricks you might have up your sleeve...Ser Benedict."
Having spoken his piece, Lord Bracken calmly settles into the ox guard and waits for Ser Benedict to make his move.

OOC: Yes, both the benefits and penalties from spent fatigue take effect immediately. However, Bracken's CD is only 7, so you comfortably make 3 DoS unless he spends fatigue himself to ingore his AP (20 - 7 = 13).

Round 10 - Haig Bracken
Ser Benedict's blow finds a gap in Lord Bracken's armor, drawing a hiss of pain from "
the Beast"
as the blade finds flesh. But Lord Bracken is not one to surrender lightly and his pride spurs him to try and finish off the knight who has beaten him once already. With a sweep of his greatsword, he brings Ser Benedict to his knees, but his exhaustion gets the better of him, and the follow-up thrust is weak. Lord Bracken curses volubly as he realizes how precarious his position is now.

With a bitter laugh, he addresses his foe: "
You were lucky there, Ser Benedict! An inch further to the left and you'd be begging for mercy, but now it seems the tables are turned!"

Ben's attack in Round 9 succeeds with 3 DoS. Haig Bracken takes 1 injury to reduce the damage to 1.

Haig Bracken spends 1 Fatigue to ignore penalties from injuries until the start of his next turn. Total attack penalty is -4.

Round 11 - Haig Bracken
"
A golden horseshoe up your arse, eh? That would explain a thing or two!"
Lord Bracken growls, then bursts out laughing. "
Very well, Ser Benedict. I yield to your tender mercies,"
he continues, dropping his greatsword to the ground and clambering tiredly to his feet. "
May the Seven continue to favor you in the final,"
he finishes with a curt nod toward Ser Benedict, before limping off the field of honor.

"
The Beast of Bracken"
is defeated, and the crowds cheer wildly in celebration of Ser Benedict's close-fought victory!

Greater Action: Yield!

OOC: Benedict Blackthorne is through to the final round! Hurrah! Very Happy (And of course you may use the line, glad you liked it!)

OOC: Final learning experience. Reviewing the actions of the NCs, I made an error in round 3, when Benjen Frey attacked Athelstan Pyke and then disarmed him as a Lesser Action. A Disarm is in fact a Greater Action, and if I were to do things over, I would just have used the Disarm. Athelstan would have had 3 more Health when facing Ben, but given his poor rolls, it wouldn't have affected the outcome in the end.
