Inspection of a Solid Foundation (Open to Marsten Council)

[Benedict Marsten]

The Marsten council room was a small chamber off the backside of the illustrious man hall. The chamber contained much of the same austereness. The white plastered walls contained similar scenes of the Maiden's Veil, The Seven, and past Marstens. A new tapestry was hung behind the head chair of a red mountain surrounded in lightening on a blue field.

Fading daylight pierced through the western window. None reaching the arched and deeply shadowed ceiling. A small course of light fare was set out on the large table with only water to wash it down.

Ben had not bothered to change his sweat-stained and grime covered clothes. He stood by the window drinking a goblet of water. His eyes on the men training, but his mind on the proposal the Septon had placed before them.

[Lady Corrine Marsten]

Corrine enters quietly, the sound of fabric swishing against the stone floor the only evidence of her presence.

"
Kevan, Mother, and Septa Heloise should be with us shortly,"
she intones, a little stiffly, approaching Ben and placing a slender hand on his shoulder, coming to a stop beside him at the window.

Ser Kevan entered a couple of minutes later, his clothes too drenched in sweat as he came to the council meeting directly from the barracks, where he was training with the guard.

Lady Corrine, Lord Ben"
, he greets the two, accompagnied with a slight nod.

Corrine turns and smiles politely at Kevan when he arrives, wandering towards the long table, around which the council normally would gather.

"
Ser Kevan. I'm glad you could make it. We are still waiting for Lady Isobel and Septa Heloise, but do please take a seat."

[Benedict Marsten]

Ben turns from the window with his wife. He nods back to Kevan.

"
It seems to be going well with the men. Thank you for all the effort you have put in. We will have the finest cavalry in the Vale."
He smiles, pleased at the results he has seen so far.

[Kevan Lyras]

"
Yes, they really improved the last few weeks. They were always talented, but slowly they also become more disciplined."

Upon Corrine's remark, he walks over to the table and takes a seat. "
Lady Corrine, you look very well, despite all the hard work"

): . Well, the official line is 5 months in. Has Kevan been around at all in the past 2 months? (Offseason months 4 and 5). If so, she'll have told him she's expecting. ]

Corrine replies, pouring a cup of water and taking a seat. "
That is kind of you to say. How is Lady Sofia?"

[Mixed up the timeline, thought this was months 2/3..but in this case Kevan would already know I guess :;

She is fine, thank you for asking. She is staying with my brother and his wife. I know she hasnt been with us here since I returned from my travels but that is mostly because she is in a similar state to yours"

[Lady Corrine Marsten]

Understandable,"
Corrine nods, one hand instinctively touching her bump. "
Travel would be quite exhausting for one in such a condition. It is good to see you happy though, and perhaps you might bring her and the little one to visit next year,"
she suggests, cheerfully.

[Benedict Marsten]

Ben can not help but smile at the talk of babies, despite the more serious reason for the meeting. "
The two will be twice related. May they grow up together, and be close confidants."
