"
No, my lady, it does not."
Theomore admits. "
What surprises me is that everyone seems to accept that each house acts independently of each other, with little communication between us."

"
Well, hopefully the meeting tomorrow, with all investigators present, will help to address that,"
she offers. "
I certainly intend to severely chastise those such as Lord Baelon, who have jealously guarded their findings."

"
That is indeed troubling, my lady, one thing is to not share because nobody asks, jealously guarding is another matter."
Theomore scratches his temple. "
Though Lord Baelon has greater cause than any to become embroiled in the games of those who I suspect have nudged this old wound to be ripped open to once again fester. It is not how I remember him from his time in Mountain's Reach, but the past year has changed many of us, considerably so in some cases."
And what else could be expected with all these young ones? "
Granted, some may have legitimate cause not to share everything, I myself hope that I do not have to reveal some of my findings near Pennytree."

Ben enters his room with a look of bewilderment and worry. The guard that had found him investigating the Bracken fields gave a brief description and he had hurried back. Now founding Ser Theomore here set his mind spinning.
Looking to Corrine his eyebrows danced questioningly, asking her condition without words. The words he saved for Theo. "
Ser Theomore, good evening. I had not thought to find you here. Is everything alright?"
Ben shoots a glance to acknowledge Ser Markus, as he moves to stand behind Corrine his hands resting on her shoulders.

"
Before I can answer that, Lord Benedict, I must ask if you have heard of what happened with Athelstan at the mines?"
Theomore had learned about it only recently, it could be possible that Ben had not.

I have heard little and less. Probably third hand knowledge by the time it reached me. That is why I came directly here to make sure Corrine was unharmed."

I am alright, Ben,"
Corrine said quietly, though without conviction, briefly patting his hand.
"
Ser Theomore, I would ask that you do reveal your findings from Pennytree. It concerns me that you would tell me you hoped not to."

"
Oh, it's not something I see any particular need to hide, my lady."
On the contrary, actually, only that his part in that business best not be revealed. "
It just so happens that I would prefer not to be the one known to reveal it, so I pointed the Longshores in the right direction. What matters is that they found what was there to be found."
He sighs, Corrine would not be satisfied with that. "
I would rather not mention names, mayhaps those I have are merely intermediaries, but were I to reveal their activities here, they would view me a traitor, and these people does not suffer traitors to live."
"
It would be safer for me to simply pretend that I never caught wind of their agents being present, but what might the consequences be? This feud is bad enough as it is already, and the seven realms need not add trouble with Dorne to it's other ailments. I do what I must, my lady, but I would prefer not to risk my neck while I am at it."

Re: [D3 EE]A desire for facts[Closed]
Theomore thinks hard on that question, it was a reasonable request, though would it ever be safe? Not likely. "
I believe I can tell my lady the full story eventually, though not before our business here has concluded and the thousand eyes trained upon us turn their attentions elsewhere."
"
I have already trusted my lady with more than I dare trust my lord nephew with, my fear is that if I were to say too much, then those I have shared this with might act upon this information in some manner that betrays that they know things that they could only learn from me. I trust everyone in this room would do their utmost to avoid this, but it is difficult enough for me to act upon what I know without giving away that I do."
He hopes there is no need to mention that he is a deal more skilled at this sort of thing than anyone else present.
"
However, not trusting anyone with anything would be an equally bad idea, the short of what I am comfortable sharing is that my investigation in Pennytree lead me to find a sellsword company, who's commander I fought besides at the Stepstones, I know the hand that have paid them, I know not who, if any, stands behind this man, but he has powerful friends. They know that I found them. They did not say why they were there, and I did not see anything particularly suspicious, but I can put two and two together, my lady. Tomorrow, I might tell a different tale, I hope that I will not need to say anything about this in the first place."
Well, Theomore was always a gambling man at heart, and now it was time to throw the dice. "
My lady asked if she might be of help to me, I believe this would be the one thing that I very well might need help with. I am working against the interests of my good-cousins of Raventree as well as others in the circle of the Prince, I shall not claim that I do so because it is the honorable thing to do, it is simply in everyone's best interest, aside from the powers behind it, that the plot fails. But I'd very much prefer to live and help my nephew unlock his potential to become the greatest lord Mountain's Reach has known."
And the stranger had never invented a better lie than the selective application of the truth.

Corrine asks, after several moments of thoughtful silence.

"
Would I have told any of this to anyone if I did, my lady?"
Theomore sighs "
I want to obscure my part in bringing this knowledge to the investigation, if some were to ask questions about a certain sellsword company in the employ of a certain lord, they would both deny any involvement and proving otherwise would be exceedingly difficult. And they would know where their names had come from."

So, does that then mean that you are dealing with the problem independently? I do not wish his grace the Prince undermined any further, and what you say concerns me. I intend to come down hard upon anyone I find dragging their own politics into this. Today is the last day anyone gets to walk all over me."

Ben gently squeezes her shoulder to remind her to remain calm. Something was amiss surely, but better to let it twist its own strings then pull at them oneself.

I have made sure that others have found what there is to be found, my lady."
Theomore pinches his nose, apparently Corrine is not the only one having been found the day to have been taxing. "
I know not if you would consider that as acting independently, I would expect the Longshores to share their findings, and I very much doubt what I could be able to add if I so dared will make any difference to the conclusion on whether or not Blackwood or Bracken were behind the deed."
"
The greater mystery is one that I may need to consult with the prince on, once all of this is over and time permits. He is a deal more capable than we are handling those who undermine him."
And his ways were not exactly pretty, he does not add, effective though.

Sadly, we do not have nearly enough time to properly handle any of this, and I am increasingly feeling that it was a mistake to throw together so many different people with varying goals. There is so little communication, and everyone is essentially treading on eachother. If you swear to me that you have not hidden or tampered with evidence from Pennytree, that will suffice.
However, I shall tell you something now that everyone else will be told at the gathering tomorrow. I will no longer have parties keeping secrets from eachother. I will be asking every investigator to share at the gathering what they have learned so far, with the strict exception of matters that are currently sensitive. Those cases will be brought to me personally, in private. I will also expect reports from each House on their daily findings, to be delivered to me by dusk for each day from tomorrow onwards. I will be allowing each House to take up assignment of specific areas to investigate, to minimise unnecessary crossover and misunderstandings. I will distribute relevant information to each House, according to their assigned areas.
I expect these plans will not be popular, but a man died today who did not need to, because another ignored a direct order out of obstinance, and has potentially lost us the possibility of reopening the mines, and has put everyone at risk. Not to mention disregarding the de facto authority of the investigation. I should have set out rules beforehand. That is my failing to regret in my own time. But I will not have this madness continue."

Let us indeed hope that was a mistake, my lady."
Theomore feels in no mood to elaborate on the alternative. "
If I may so suggest, perhaps these reports are best done in an assembly of representatives? If someone feel the need for secrecy, they could always approach my lady afterwards."

"
Precisely my thinking,"
Corrine nods. "
I am not going to try to eradicate privacy, so I will encourage delicate natters to be brought to me privately instead. I just want to get us all working together more efficiently. I also intend to form a tribunal to conduct an inquiry into Lord Drakeson's actions. I will send missives to all delegations to make arrangements to gather tomorrow morning, so you will be able to contribute if you wish. If there is nothing else we need urgently discuss now, I would like to bid you goodnight."

I know I said this morning that it would get worse before it got better, but the Gods seem even more mocking for my having said so. I had not expected this at all."

Well I think Myles has been appeased, Ser Mikael Strong has been apprehended,"
He looks to Kevan with a gruff smile. "
Roryk and his bandits put down, and I have managed to find little out about the Bracken feilds."
He moves toward his traveling chest hand seats himself, leaving the other chair open. "
So ... the mines ...?"

Corrine sighs sadly, looking at the floor.
"
Well, as you heard there, Athelstan is dead. Baelon turned up at the mines with bloodriders and demanded Athelstan surrender for interrogation. You can imagine, I'm sure, how well that went, a greenlander telling an ironborn what to do. Athelstan chose to take his own life rather than be taken into custody. Stubborn fool that he was."
Despite her sarcastic tone, Ben knows his wife well enough to see that Athelstan's death troubles her on a personal, as well as political, level.
"
I have reason to believe, from what Luecian and Septon Arlyn told me, that Athelstan had moved wildfire somewhere around the mines. We tried to find the narkings he supposedly left, but to no avail. I spoke to Gwyn earlier, and she suspects that the wildfire may have been part of a plot to assault the royal party visiting tomorrow."

That to me is the most troublesome part of these news"
I never cared much about that Ironborn Warrior, but Baelon's role in this tragedy is not a favorable as well...

Can we do anything to ensure their security? Will they arrive at the campsite or here at the inn?"
