Though Lord Baelon has greater cause than any to become embroiled in the games of those who I suspect have nudged this old wound to be ripped open to once again fester. It is not how I remember him from his time in Mountain's Reach, but the past year has changed many of us, considerably so in some cases."
And what else could be expected with all these young ones? "
Granted, some may have legitimate cause not to share everything, I myself hope that I do not have to reveal some of my findings near Pennytree."

Ben enters his room with a look of bewilderment and worry. The guard that had found him investigating the Bracken fields gave a brief description and he had hurried back. Now founding Ser Theomore here set his mind spinning.

Looking to Corrine his eyebrows danced questioningly, asking her condition without words. The words he saved for Theo. "
Ser Theomore, good evening. I had not thought to find you here. Is everything alright?"

Ben shoots a glance to acknowledge Ser Markus, as he moves to stand behind Corrine his hands resting on her shoulders.

Theomore thinks hard on that question, it was a reasonable request, though would it ever be safe? Not likely. "
I believe I can tell my lady the full story eventually, though not before our business here has concluded and the thousand eyes trained upon us turn their attentions elsewhere."

I want to obscure my part in bringing this knowledge to the investigation, if some were to ask questions about a certain sellsword company in the employ of a certain lord, they would both deny any involvement and proving otherwise would be exceedingly difficult. And they would know where their names had come from."

I know not if you would consider that as acting independently, I would expect the Longshores to share their findings, and I very much doubt what I could be able to add if I so dared will make any difference to the conclusion on whether or not Blackwood or Bracken were behind the deed."

The greater mystery is one that I may need to consult with the prince on, once all of this is over and time permits. He is a deal more capable than we are handling those who undermine him."
And his ways were not exactly pretty, he does not add, effective though.

Sadly, we do not have nearly enough time to properly handle any of this, and I am increasingly feeling that it was a mistake to throw together so many different people with varying goals. There is so little communication, and everyone is essentially treading on eachother. If you swear to me that you have not hidden or tampered with evidence from Pennytree, that will suffice.

However, I shall tell you something now that everyone else will be told at the gathering tomorrow. I will no longer have parties keeping secrets from eachother. I will be asking every investigator to share at the gathering what they have learned so far, with the strict exception of matters that are currently sensitive. Those cases will be brought to me personally, in private. I will also expect reports from each House on their daily findings, to be delivered to me by dusk for each day from tomorrow onwards. I will be allowing each House to take up assignment of specific areas to investigate, to minimise unnecessary crossover and misunderstandings. I will distribute relevant information to each House, according to their assigned areas.

I expect these plans will not be popular, but a man died today who did not need to, because another ignored a direct order out of obstinance, and has potentially lost us the possibility of reopening the mines, and has put everyone at risk. Not to mention disregarding the de facto authority of the investigation. I should have set out rules beforehand. That is my failing to regret in my own time. But I will not have this madness continue."

Corrine sighs sadly, looking at the floor.

Well, as you heard there, Athelstan is dead. Baelon turned up at the mines with bloodriders and demanded Athelstan surrender for interrogation. You can imagine, I'm sure, how well that went, a greenlander telling an ironborn what to do. Athelstan chose to take his own life rather than be taken into custody. Stubborn fool that he was."

Despite her sarcastic tone, Ben knows his wife well enough to see that Athelstan's death troubles her on a personal, as well as political, level.

I have reason to believe, from what Luecian and Septon Arlyn told me, that Athelstan had moved wildfire somewhere around the mines. We tried to find the narkings he supposedly left, but to no avail. I spoke to Gwyn earlier, and she suspects that the wildfire may have been part of a plot to assault the royal party visiting tomorrow."
