[D1, Early Evening] Bread & Salt
Bread &
Salt
Lady Alysane Tully is resplendent in a Tully blue high necked gown as she welcomes her house's guests, Lord Gorman having retired early for the night. Bread and salt are passed round, accompanied by a sour red wine.
“House Tully is pleased to welcome you to Riverrun,” Lady Tully says solemnly. “Take of our provisions and drink of our wine, and know that you are our guests at this tourney, to celebrate my grandson Dermont's coming of age. Let all men and woman rejoice in the bounty the Seven have blessed us with.”
Lady Alysane's gaze bores in to each guest as they accept her hospitality, searching for any sign of slight or favour.
Participants: Any number of participants per house, but only the highest result from each house counts. Characters may assist, but this must done with a TN (9) Status breeding roll instead of the roll below.
- Please clearly mark your initial post and roll, subsequent roll play is encouraged.
- Mark in Orokos which roll you're attempting.
Challenge: roll Status (Breeding) (13) [Lady Alysane's Intrigue Defence]
Note - everyone is assumed to take Bread &
Salt, the roll is only for those who try to make an impression.
Consequences:
Success - The disposition of members of House Tully improves by one step towards all members of your house for a number of days equal to your degrees of success. Additionally, during this period, the difficulty of any Status Test to secure a meeting with a member of House Tully is reduced by 3 per degree of success for an identical duration.
Critical failure (or simply failing the assist roll) – Lady Alysane has marked you out as a dolt or imbecile. Her disposition towards you falls by one step permanently. This may lead to... complications, later in the tourney.

Re: [D1, Early Evening] Bread & Salt
Dunstan wears his simple yet well made blue tunic with a Tullison mountain sigil embroidered on the chest. After receiving the bread and salt and washing it down with a gulp of wine he stands up and approaches Lady Alysane, presenting himself to her with a large bow.
"
My Lady, I am Dunstan Tullison, Lord of House Tullison. I thank you and your noble House for the warm welcome you bestowed upon us. It is truly a great honor for all members of our House to be guests in our liege Lords hall."
the young Lord says, a bit crudely but with a tone of courtesy in his voice. He lacked the extravagance and bravado some of the other nobblemen displayed in the Great Hall tonight, but tried to make it up by being upfront and honest.
: 5d6 17
OOC: Forgot to add +2 on status roll from my Head of House benefit, with that my roll would be 19.
After he finished speaking, he looks her in the eyes with a warm smile on his face, awaiting her answer.
Tullisons always were traditionally loyal to the Tullys, and that is still the case. From when he was a boy Dunstan was taught to continue that tradition, and in time it became a part of his own beliefs. All the words he said were undoubtedly true.

Re: [D1, Early Evening] Bread & Salt
Theomore stood a respectful two steps behind his nephew, not too long ago, he would have been the one standing in front of the lady. As much as he did enjoy the attention, there was a certain pride in seeing Dunstan grow into the role. Maybe this was what fatherly pride was like, though the real thing was likely stronger, though perhaps not so much as holding one's newborn child in one's hands. And Theomore had a few of those around Joston's Rock, while he did not officially acknowledge any of them, he enjoyed playing with the young when he could, and ensured that mother and child had what they needed to get by.
His role now was to show the court that he was fully supportive of the young lord so recently come of age, seeing that it was not unheard of that regents sometimes had a certain reluctance towards relinquishing control to their charges when the time came. And while Theomore never had been Dunstan's regent, neither in name or otherwise, he had oft enough represented the house in the past ten years that some might be confused. Besides, his support might serve to make his nephew more comfortable.

Daveth gracefully moves about the hall, a placid smile on his face, his mind afire with near-panic.
By the gods, this place is incredible! Don't Gawp! At least try to pretend you're not some rural bumpkin who wandered in by accident, you represent House Coldbrook! Right, yes. Bread and salt. Easy enough. Eat the bread and salt, drink the wine and do not -do *not*- make any indication that you wish to speak with Lady Alysane Tully, you'll only make a tit of yourself. Yes, there. Remember to use your right hand t- your other right! nice recovery. Now you only have one spare hand, so try to get this one right first time. Yes? Go- -By the gods, that dress must have cost more than our territory makes in a year! I said don't gawp! Focus, Daveth! I know, I know, I've just never been to something like this before. Yes, you have. This is just ... bigger. Don't panic, it makes your smile strained! And don't start sweating, either! You are a trueborn noble! This is your natural home! Be comfortable! I don't feel comfortable. I feel like the servants are better dressed than I am. Look, your clothes are fine! Just ... you know what, you always like making friends, so just pick someone at random, start a conversation, try to befriend them. Before you realise what's happening, it'll be time to go. Bread and salt eaten, wine drunk, no fuss, no drama. Right. Yes. So, just pick someone? Not a servant! Don't be craven, they work for a living. Look, there, them! They're standing alone, go to them! See, they're even starting the conversation. This will be easy. Oh, crap! Lady Tully's looking this way, blend in, blend in, clear! Whew.
"
-a pleasure, and you are?"
Daveth's new conversation partner finishes.
Oh, you tit! You completely missed their name, didn't you? Don't panic, you can fix this! There's lots of background noise, just say 'a thousand apologies, I didn't quite catch that'.
"
Master Daveth Coldbrook, the pleasure is all mine."
the polite response rolls off Daveth's tongue as a reflex.
Idiot! Idiot! Idiot! What did I just say, you stupid fucker? Well, can't go back now. Guess you'll just have to figure out who the fuck you're talking to through small-talk before you have to mention their name. Good fucking luck.
(OOC: Right. If a PC who's present who doesn't already have a connection to me wishes to be my conversation partner, feel free to step up, else it'll probably be 'Ser not-appearing-again (unless you fail horribly)'. If you want to personalise what 'you' said in this post, just let me know, but I tried to keep it as generic as possible. I spoke about this with Reader, and the way to handle this is to volunteer in the main thread as part of your post, then we'll take it to a side-thread to avoid cluttering up the main thread. Re: [D1, Early Evening] Bread & Salt
That's right - her name was Alsyanne too, like the Lady of the House. I wonder of she takes pride in being named after Her Ladyship? Just shows a lack of imagination on the part of the baker, really.
Baelon eats the bread and salt and drinks the wine with a minimum of fuss. This wasn't really his sort of shindig, but it was important to keep up appearances.
The other Alysanne's bread tasted better, and bigger loaves too.
EDIT:

Lady Alysane's gaze bores in to each guest as they accept her hospitality, searching for any sign of slight or favour.
Gwyneth Marsten is quick to accept that hospitality, but the words she'd carefully planned to say dry up in her throat when she drinks that wine. Was it too much? She wasn't the heir of Marsten after all. A lady, but not THE Lady. She manages not to completely wither away under Lady Alysane's gaze, but all she can manage to respond is a meager, "
Thank you, Lady, for your welcome."
Oh SEVEN...what an opportunity LOST!

Re: [D1, Early Evening] Bread & Salt
What am I even DOING here? Jon thinks, his courage faltering briefly before Lady Alysane's piercing gaze. Here's a golden opportunity for Fendrel to show up that bore Davain, and instead he asks me to speak for House Bartheld, even though he KNOWS that I'm terrible at formalities like this. Whatever his excuse is, it had better be a good one...
"
My lady, I am Ser Jon Cobb, sometimes known as Wrecker Jon, and a guest and friend of House Bartheld. On behalf of his noble house, Ser Fendrel Bartheld has tasked me with conveying his heartfelt thanks for your hospitality, and his deepest regrets that neither he nor young Lord Davain could attend this ceremony. Ser Fendrel begs your pardon and hopes that you will accept these excellent wines from the vineyards of House Bartheld by way of apology."
Jon gestures to the Bartheld servants accompanying him and they each bring forth a small cask of wine, setting them down before his feet. "
I am...erm...given to understand that these are just samples - Ser Fendrel has a barrel of each of these vintages waiting to be delivered to your cellars, m'lady."
: 3d6 13
Well, he thinks, she doesn't look too angry...

Re: [D1, Early Evening] Bread & Salt
A dark shadow seems to have been cast on the hall as the towering figure of this gigantic Ironborn stands up.
An aura of sinister authority and of threatening menace is emanated from this man: more than 2m- tall, all dressed in leather and black, a thick, wildly braided beard which covers his upper chest and two grey eyes which are as dark as the never-ending western ocean.
This vision reminds all the Rivermen in the Hall of the centuries of Ironborn violence which their land has suffered, an history of violence whose only remaining signs in the Riverlands are the Longshore holdings.
A mixture of fear, revulsion, hate and curiosity seems to be spread.
“This man is the enemy” is what everybody is thinking.
Stories were told about the illness of the Longshore leader, and stories were also told about how much complicated the succession could be, with the firstborn being the odd rogue that he is, and the other heirs having their own limits.
The unexpected presence of this man in this hall tells everybody a different story, the tale of a Longshore whose misdeeds on the coasts of Essos and Dorne are famous even here.
Maybe a strong man has come back, and nobody knows if he will take the helm of the old ship.
Maybe the Longshore are not anymore the weakened beasts everybody thought about them….
The man’s visage is cold and stern as he stares the Tully lady.
No emotion, just a static presence, like a megalith.
Everybody is expecting threatening insults to appear in the mouths of a man who seems more accustomed to wielding an axe than to walk on the carpets of a lordly hall.
But, somewhat unexpectedly, a calm, baritone voice is what is heard.
“My name is Leifnarr Longshore, and I am here on behalf of Lord Ferris, unfortunately too ill to come.
The Ironborn of the Riverlands are thankful for your hospitality, my Lady, and I bring the greetings and salutation of my lord and brother.”
Having said so the large man takes bread, salt and wine.
Everybody in the hall is guessing what’s the result of such an odd presentation…

Ser Jorah stepped forward, signalling for Daveth to join him. As a knight and perhaps the most well respected member of the Household, he felt it his duty to represent them and hopefully show Lord Coldbrook that Daveth has potential.
"
My Lady, House Coldbrook thanks you for your hospitality,"
he said warmly, "
may your grandson bring great honour to the esteemed name of House Tully."

(Great. I'm supposed to be eloquent, and I got nuthin')
Daveth bows, glad to be following in the old knight's shadow. "
My Lady, I am Daveth Coldbrook. Our family is very honoured to be here. Thank you."
Short, simple, no stammering. Good enough. Thank the gods for Ser Jorah.

Ser Janos Croson and his son, Ser Tristain Croson, approach Lady Alysanne Tully, Tristain seeming somewhat reluctant. They each partake in the bread and salt, drinking it down with a sip of the red wine. Ser Janos gives a respectable bow, presenting himself with ease of grace, despite his age, to be expected of most nobles surpassing that of a typical knight. Ser Tristain on the other hand bows haltingly and almost grudgingly, a poorly concealed scowl upon his face.
"
My Lady Alysanne, it is an honor to be here in your halls. I am Ser Janos Croson, a knight in service to and a friend of House Bartheld. May I present to you my son, Ser Tristain Croson,"
Ser Janos introduces himself and leave a clear and well timed opening for his son to steal the show, but...
Tristain bows once more and says, "
My lady, I thank you for your hospitality. It is well received."
When Janos realizes that is the extent Tristain's presentation, Janos mentally sighs and moves to make their retreat from her seat as respectable as possible.
"
May the Seven bless you and your family during this most honored event, my lady,"
the elder Croson says as he bows and turns to leave with his son. He wondered if it was even worth trying to explain to his son how that could have damaged their appearance for the rest of the event.

Having favoured other guests with a short reply, Lady Alysane Tully simply spurns Ser Costain, despite his father's more competent allies.
Experienced courtiers are all too aware that the only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about...
[OOC: Lady Alysane's disposition towards Ser Tristain is permanently lowered by one step, with potential further ramifications later. Sorry about the rough start Ser Tristain, but might lead to some entertaining stories...]
