D6 ME 3 Knights redux

[Ser Jorah Holt]

After his fraught meeting with the Prince, Ser Jorah had arranged to meet with Ser Kevan and requested Ser Wyll join them.

[Kevan Lyras]

"
Jorah, I hope you had a pleasant day since we met our last night back in Blackwood lands. Let us hope this meeting will be equally productive!"

[Reader]

Ser Wyll Bracken arrived promptly and well turned out. He had his father's strength, and time would tell as to whether or not he had his father's tastes.

"
Ser Kevan, Ser Jorah. I am at your disposal."

[Ser Jorah Holt]

"
It has been an interesting day so far and one with the sign of things to come."
He sighed, hand brushing an ivory handled dagger in a sheath that was not there before.


"
Welcome Ser Wyll,"
Jorah bowed, "
thank you for coming. We had some questions regarding the incidents at the borderlands with House Darry. I understand you led the House Bracken forces that chased the House Blackwood forces over the border?"

[Kevan Lyras]

"
Thank you for your time, Ser Wyll. We have something to discuss with you."
Looking over at Ser Jorah, he continued:
"
We have been at the Darry borderlands today, together with Ser Symon of House Blackwood. Also, I had the chance to meet with a member of House Darry as well on this matter. We have covered a lot during our investigation, but some things are still open. We hoped you could maybe help us in this regard?"


He purposely left the question open without accusing the Bracken knight.

Ser Wyll does not have his father's temper yet, but he still has his honour and pride. Ser Kevan and Jorah are inspiring enough to convince him to tell of what he knows, but he feels fully justified in his actions.

There is not much to tell Sers. Raids from Blackwood forces across the border, starting from inside Darry lands or retreating there. What could any knight charged with defending his smallfolk and reputation do in such circumstances? I am at your disposal as I said, but can offer little more than this."

[Ser Jorah Holt]

"
Obviously, you were attacked, but could you tell us what happened, not only what was attacked in your lands, but what happened when you crossed the border in pursuit. Damage was done to the Darry lands and we seek to understand whom was responsible for what damage."


Jorah smiled, offering Ser Wyll a chance to tell them House Bracken's side about what happened.

"
Inadvertent on my honour as a knight. We may have trampeled field or damaged walls and roads in our pursuit, but no deliberate looting or rape took place, I swear it. The odd camp may have had to be torched to prevent those curs simply licking their wounds and returning to strike at us again and again."


"
The Blackwoods were riding at our mills and mines, vital property of our family. Defending on two fronts is night impossible, we had to take decisive action."


"
Do we curse a horse if a child tugs at its tail and gets bitten for its impertinence? The Bracken stallion is not to be mocked by these dogs."


The antipathy between the houses ran deep, despite previous attempts at political marriages.

Approximately how much damage do you think was caused by your two forces? It does not sound like anything that cannot be easily repaired."

I confess I have limited faith in my accounting for matters: we were intent on driving off raiders not loot or compiling a maester's survey."


However, Kevan Lyras has already interrogated Ser James Darry and houses Marsten and Bartheld received a full report from the dependable knight. Slowly, painfully, it becomes clear that while Ser Wyll cannot give a field by field recounting of events, he is able to confirm the locations visited and the damage done. He seems an honest sort: if he shades numbers down here and there it seems largely done by ignorance and a difference in perspective rather than dishonesty.

As the Bracken knight has finished hus report, Kevan compared it to the information he already knew.

Thank you for your honesty, Ser Bracken."

Thank you Ser Wyll, you've been very helpful."

Sers. Go with the Seven."


Wyll bows to his interrogators and departs.

After Ser Wyll bid his farewell and disappeared, Kevan looked at his fellow knight: "
So, what do you think? Any blame to put on the Bracken's in this?"

[Ser Jorah Holt]

"
Hmm,"
Jorah mused, "
it depends whether House Darry allowed House Blackwood to use their lands. If they did, then House Bracken will have to repair the damage, though House Darry will have to admit they did it. Otherwise, they should repair the damage between them."

[Kevan Lyras]

"
From what I found out, they did definitely not. Lord Darry was furious when he found out that the Blackwoods did, so I think that is out of question. Yes, I agree, they should split the reparations between the two houses"

[Ser Jorah Holt]

"
Well, let us report back to our Houses what we have found out. Let's hope nobody else decides to interfere with any of the investigations."
