[126/3] Knights and Knaves
Not one to miss out on any parties, festivities or tournaments, or other occasions to present oneself to a wider audience, Ser Fendrel, in a true Bartheld manner, attended the tourney organised by the lord of House Lychester of the Riverlands. A minor house with a lord almost unimportant in the grander scheme of things. But to Fendrel every such event was an opportunity. Sometimes, it was just about jousting, winning, gold and glory;
other times, the reward was much more esoteric and intangible, favours and friendships, alliances and rivalries could be started with a word or a speech, or ruined and undone with a gesture. He would know -- he had a long history of throwing parties in the Bartheld household, parties that were the talk of the ladies and lords for months to come;
parties at which many a scheme was facilitated... or, just the opposite, stopped from being carried out. He used to be a facilitator of joys. Now, he was just a guest.
The jousts were already in progress but his was scheduled for later so he had some time to kill. Having decided to watch the knights compete for renown and ransoms, he was surprised to find a familiar face among the other noblemen gathered for the same purpose. A face he hadn't seen for almost two years now -- a face he had last seen at the Riverrun tourney whose memory still left him with a bitter taste. No matter. It was time to reacquaint himself with another knight who used to serve Prince Daemon in his campaign for the Stepstones.
"
Ser Theomore,"
Fendrel smiled at the other man, "
I would say it's a surprise to see you here... but knowing you, it is hardly a surprise at all. Enjoying the rounds?"
[OOC: I assumed it would be fine if I used a minor house that we know almost nothing about to give some background flavour to the scene. If it's inappropriate, I'll change it.]

"
Quite so, Ser Fendrel, though I should have liked more to partake myself. But my lord nephew decided to join the prince's campaign against Wyl, and I have seen enough men on the march succumb to such injuries as one might easily sustain at the list, yet offers no trouble if one cleans the wounds and allow sufficient rest for proper healing."
Though mostly it was so that Dunstan couldn't later grumble about Theomore taking part while advising his nephew that one should not ride at the list for this reason. "
But I must say the surprise is mine, it seemed to everyone that you simply disappeared after the Tourney of Riverrun, ser. "
