[Day 2, Mid Morning] Meeting with the Liege Lords (Closed)

[Dunstan Tullison]

Dunstan woke up and combed his hair, groomed his beard and washed his face. Wearing the best clothes he could find in his tent he stepped outside and made sure the guards and pages look their best as well.

It was time for a meeting with Lord and Lady Tully.

Making their way through the pavillions the Tullison delegation looked formidable. Joining them was one Yoren Longshore, with whom they agreed to meet the previous day and discuss the nuances of the Longshore-Tullison trade agreement with the Liege Lords.

Soon they were in front of the castle, ready to make their way to the Great Hall.

OOC: Thread open for Theomore, Ben and Yoren only.

[Yoren longshore]

Yoren walks into the great hall together with the young lord. His clothes were nice looking and he was well combed, however his appearance was slightly thwarted by scrolls bunched up in his arms, and the abacus which he had tied to his belt.

Coming into the great hall he bows deeply and speaks:
"
I am honoured to have been invited into your halls. And I hope that you will keep me involved in the process of reducing the animosity which has for far to long grown between the ironborn and the Riverlanders."
He bows deeply waiting to be adressed.

Lord Gorman Tully sits on his throne, resplendent in Tully blue garb. He is flanked by his wife, Lady Alysane Tully, scrutinising those present with her experienced eye.

They acknowledge the first arrivals and wait for the remaining guests to arrive, or those present to speak.

[Benedict Marsten]

Ben is present, standing back off of Dunstans left shoulder. His left hand settled on his pommel. He looks down admiring his cleaned armor and boots. His right hand tugging at a loose strap before scratching at the growth on his chin, then passing through his hair.

[Theomore Tullison]

Theomore seemed quite at ease with the situation, if perhaps somewhat sleepy. The early bird gets the worm to be sure, but the late evenings were best for finding girls, two items of conflict. Oh well, he had a job to do. And that was to make his contribution to these talks to go smoothly and be productive.

[Dunstan Tullison]

Dunstan looks left and right, like he is waiting for someone else to approach the Lord, but quickly remembers that he is the Lord and proceeds to the seat.

Kneeling down on one knee he says with a serious tone

"
My Lord, I am Lord Dunstan of House Tullison, son of Lord Sterl Tullison. Thank you for the honor of accepting us in your Hall this fine day. House Tullison is loyal as ever."
standing up he introduces his companions.

"
This is Ser Theomore Tullison, my uncle. Ser Benedict Blackthorne, a knight loyal to our House. And finally Master Yoren of House Longshore, who is here because we needed your sage advice on one particular idea we developed not so long ago."


Dunstan stands up awaitng a response.

[Reader]

Lord Tully gestured for Dunstan to continue.

"
Lord Sterl Tullison raised you well Lord Tullison and we are saddened at his parting. We are certain you shall prove as true a servant as your father, my lady wife assure me of as much after your introduction yesterday."


"
Present your case, and know it shall receive a fair hearing and our sage advice."


Lord Gorman Tullison is old but his voice is firm.

Yoren stands patiently waiting to be adressed, knowing that Dunstan should be the one to represent the case first.

We have three matters to discuss with you my Lord"
Dunstan decides to go straight to the point since they seem to be in a good mood.

"
First, I would ask for the honor to have one of the young knights to be from your household as my squire. I hope my request is not too bold my Lord."
Dunstan suddenly feels uncertain about this request, it seemed like a great option in the tent, but now it seems like he is overreaching. He decides to wait and see.

"
Second, we would like your advice on the matter of gift to either the Queen or the Princess, Seven bless them both. Mainly, who do you feel we should .. focus on?"
Dunstan lowers his voice on this matter, aware that there might be eyes and ears in the Hall who collect information for both.

"
And third is why master Yoren is with us. As a rightful heir to House Longshore, he is ready to transform his House from the ironborn ..... economy... to the trade and peaceful progress the rest of the Riverlands are enjoying under your benevolent rule. House Tullison would like to help him achieve that goal, but first we need him to make a case in front of you my Lord, and for you to approve that new direction he seek to establish."


Dunstan finishes making his case and bows yet again.

Yoren bows again at the mention of his proposal, but awaits for lord Gorman to speak first.

Lord Gorman Tully considers his vassal's requests carefully before answering.

"
A knight would be too old to serve as squire, but I suspect we can find a suitable boy. One of the Mootons lads perhaps, to foster friendship in the Riverlands."

Lady Alysane Tully is wearing Tully blue dress picked out in red, but taps a green necklace as her husband speaks. You hear a cough of consternation behind you, and can see the heir to Riverrun, Ser Eoric Tully whisper something to his younger brother, Ser Dermot.

"
Peace in the RIverlands would be welcome. If this... Ironborn... can speak for his father, then we should be pleased to give his proposal a fair hearing."

[Yoren longshore]

"
My father will acknowledge this agreement as long as the negotiated deal is fair to him and to our people."
Yoren frowns slightly: "
You will have to accommodate him slightly, however, in ways that seem immaterial to most, but which he will require if he is to deal with you, the biggest is of course, no maesters in our lands, but that will probably not inconvenience you too much I hope?"

Dunstan hoped for a squire with the last name Tully but decided not to push the issue any further.

It would be my privilege to contribute to stronger bonds among Houses sworn to you my Lord."
he said.

Master Yoren assured me he is ready to open a new chapter in his House history. Would you provide a blessing for House Tullison to donate a part of our wealth into making that chapter easier to open for them?"
looking at Yoren he tried to signal him to present his ideas they talked about earlier to the Lord and Lady.

Trying to smooth the mistake he made by being open earlier he said "
I.. I am sorry for my indiscretion"

Yoren nods slightly before stating "
Peace is good, we all acknowledge that. However the issue at hand is that my people are not used to trade, which leads to them growing up fiscally challenged. This leads to reaving, as although the Iron Island are rich in minerals, we have poor soil, so unless we trade we will have to loot to sustain ourself."

Yoren looks at the older lord: "
It is a fact that people will do worse than raiding if they see their children starve. As we have to reave to get sustenance, resentment grows between our people. Which again leads to fewer people trading, which leads to more reaving."
Yoren stops.
"
You, Gorman Tully, may be the lord to end this together with Dunstan over there, and the solution is really simple: Your bannerhouse has come up with a solution: they will shoulder the cost of a marketplace, through them borrowing us the laborers necesssary, and we will allow merchants to come and go through our docks, to trade in all our valuables, for things that we will need, like grain. This will over time lessen our people's resentment towards each other, which will lead to less reaving, so all people win."

Yoren stops his line of thoughts and goes quiet, waiting for an response. All the while casting glances towards Dunstan, maybe hoping for backup, maybe just for Dunstans acknowledgement in Yorens reason.

[Dunstan Tullison]

Dunstan nods to Yoren as a sign of approval and awaits for the Lord's response.

A market place seems a benign way to share are largesse and cannot be turned to darker ends. We must not arm those who have done us such harm, although I welcome their new song, it carries a queer accent. We shall see if this sticks with Lord Longshore."


He nods, as pleased with the idea as if he'd come up with it himself.

"
The Riverlands shall show the realm a better path - too much blood has been shed between brothers. Bracken against Blackwood, Riverlander against reaver. It must end before we bleed ourselves dry."

This has my blessing - whether you have the wisdom to embrace those trained at the Citadel or not is no concern of mine."

Yoren allows himself a smile "
Good, this infusion of foreign capital will really help us start an economic reform, and of course, many traders will have to walk through Tully tollstations to get to our lands, which will bolster your economic prowess significantly."


Yoren grows serious again. "
Now we discussed another point earlier: a defensive alliance, where we can expect Tullyson support and Tullison kan expect our support."
Yoren spreads his arms "
This will be a mutually beneficial arrangement. We have a good military, and I would be more than happy to offer it to Tullisons in times of need. The practical details I would not dare to bother you with, lord Tully, but do you agree with this solution for strengthening both Tullison and Longshore."

[Reader]

Lady Tully smiles politely, interceding more gently than she normally would. Unusual for a woman to answer while her husband is present...

"
Such matters are your own concern with Lord Tullison. Our vassals remain bound by blood and oath, superseding any arrangement you may make, should loyalties conflict."

[Yoren longshore]

Yoren frowns slightly, this was no matter for women to part take in. However, as her husband did not intercede, he assumed that he was agreeing. "
Then me and Dunstan may resolve a potential Tullison/Longshore alliance on twomanshold later on."
Before he looks at Dunstan "
Is there anything more?"

[Dunstan Tullison]

"
We are grateful for your time and advice my Lord. Lady. We will be leaving now, I wish you a pleasant rest of the day."


Dunstan says and turns around, ready to leave the Hall.

Yoren lingers behind as the rest of the Tullisons leave. "

[OOC: Yoren tussles with Lord Tully verbally, but here in the seat of his power the would-be Longshore heir cannot make an impression on Gorman.

Lord Tully convinces Yoren to strengthen his peaceful claims with an oath without House Tully offering any political support in return, unless you quit or offer an appealing yield. Orokos rolls are in my roll history - essentially, he wins initiative, fails his first read target but succeeds on the second attempt and then crushes you with convince. Your rolls are generally too low to dent his intrigue defence, bolstered by his impressive Status score.

It would quickyl become apparent that it will be hard to persuade him, hence the option to quit/yield..

I'll do the oath, plus granting Tully military acces as long as his troops don't march through farmland, ill also allow him to build a sept if he wishes, in exchange for support.
