[Day 3, Late Morning] Old gods and old grudges [Closed]
OOC: PCs in this thread: Yoren and Athelstan.
Loreia strides toward the Longshore pavilion(s) with purpose, her dog trailing behind, hair pricking out a little. Wind blows against the tents and dries the dew from a recent morning shower. She is hesitant to speak to the Ironborn present, instead looking for someone who stands out, someone matching Daveth's description of Yoren. She had been interested in meeting since she heard of him, a prodigal returning from Essos serving a foreign deity.
If approached by men of Longshore to solicit her intent, she keeps her responses brusque and austere. By chance, she notices her mark, currently preoccupied.
"
You,"
she says, absent any formality. Her tone is forward, and she would not be so direct if not for Daveth's impression of him. "
You Yoren? Heard a Longshore man'd returned to his own. That you?"
*What Yoren's about is up to him, whether he be sitting at breafast or taking a piss.*

Yoren stands with some iron born roughly chopping some pines into tinder. When he hears his name, he turns around and gives his axe to a man that seems to have a break: “Business calls, could you take charge of things here?”
He then turns to the woman standing there asking: “Good day to you, yes I am Yoren, who is asking? Can I help you with something?” he asks with a smile.

Otherwise nonplussed that she is interrupting his work, Loreia's tone adjusts in consideration for Yoren's genuine greeting. In addition, it was only right for her to introduce herself along with her request, to give him a name to this otherwise inconsequential nobody walking into his camp. "
I'm Loreia. I serve House Coldbrook as one of their retainers. I want to learn more 'bout your travels in Essos, if you've time to spare."

Yoren warms at hearing what house she serves: "
You serve for Daveth? A friend of daveth is a friend of mine."
He smiles a bit more amiably before continuing in a deeper voice;
"
I have travelled far and wide, of what do you want to know?"

Athelstan plunges out of the main tent punching a man out of his way "
I go were I please, you are not the one to stop me fool!"
other men still follow behind him "
You do well to stay there were I might forget you"
looking around the camp as half of them give him death wishes with their stares and the others are a mixed bag of feelings "
Good morning"
he says casually not caring and getting ready to go take a proper bath "
Good Morning Yoren and ..."
lost for words at the sight of the lady and his pet dog "
Athelstan Pyke, a pleasure to meet you my lady"
stretching a hand.

"
Morning, Pyke,"
she answers with a glance. "
I was talking to this one."
"
I'm curious 'bout how you've grown since leaving Westeros,"
she continues with Yoren. "
I hear you've been gone for the better part of a decade. Found a new god. So what's new, and what's changed? If anything,"
she mutters under her breath.
Loreia is unarmored, but her sword is presently belted to her hip and sheathed, as it often is. Her dog does not seem to react at present, alert but aloof toward present company.

"
Well I'll be, and I thought we were the rude ones here"
with a wolfish grin "
I understand you like them more civilized then, but I don't think even Lord Leifnarr asked you a torrent of questions"
laughing hard "
I'll give you credit you got more balls then a lot of men, I like her Yoren, she might actually teach you what to do with that"
pointing at the sword.

Loreia is waiting on Yoren's response, merely raising an eyebrow at Athelstan's side commentary.

Yoren looks at the two: "
Few things have changed, except for my age. I have been robbed in broad daylight, and I have been given hospitality. I have learned from the worst, but I have also learned from the best."
Yoren smiles as he sees the dog, he crouches down to pet it before continuing.
"
What I learned across the ocean was how similar we all are. Regardless of what culture they were a part of, all people I met had more or less the same way of doing things: Take this dog as an example, if I show it kindness, then it will come closer and let me pet it more."
Yoren pauses as he pets the dog for a moment: "
if I were to kick it, it would either fight or flee, just like humans would."
Yoren smiles vryly: "
I travelled the world, and unfortunately that was all wisdom I got for it."
He claps the dog carefully: "
This is a good dog, what is its name?"
OOC: sorry, I have been in my sweet sleep until now.

"
He's called Badger,"
she answers, lifting her hand to "
rest"
on the pommel of her weapon. "
Some cultures tend to do a lot more kickin'. Some do it in the name of a god. For some gods, it's about nothin' but. I want to know more 'bout yours."

"
What do you wish to know about the Drowned God and the Storm God?"
Athelstan shrugs his shoulders "
Your question is a bit vague, so the answer you might get will be the same, if you want something more specific ask it"
Athelstan crosses his arms defiantly and curiously wondering why is she interested.

Yoren gets taken aback by the directness of the qestion and stalls for a bit of time.
"
Badger, huh? It seems like a good name for him, I think it suits him like a glove."
He then tells Athelstan "
she talks of mine, not of yours."
He then raises from his crouching position, but without taking his gaze of the dog: "
you want to know of R'hollor, do you?"
Yoren deepens his voice as he starts speaking: "
R'hollor is the light in a dark room. He is the fireplace on a cold winters night."
Yoren looks up at Loreia: "
You northerners would know how important that is more than anyone. He lights up your way, if your belief in him is strong. We all have darkness within our soul, Rhollor is the obe who may cleanse your soul from that darkness. Whether is it fear or grief, Rhollor make it possible for you to bear the burden."
He stops, waiting for questions to arise.

I'm asking about Yoren's god,"
she snapped. "
And I don't know its name."

"
Well that is something I would like to hear also"
Athelstan frown is evident as he now stares at Yoren.

OOC: Oh I'm sorry, I missed that post. The following, quotes included, should be the proper flow of our talk.
I've heard a little about this 'Rh'llor'. They call him the Red God, and they say his followers are mystics, with powers beyond mere men. That true?"
For the moment, her curiosity for the foreign faith steers her tone.

Loreia's flinty manner softens when she hears the name of the Red God. She doesn't seem to relax any more when all is told, but is able to recover quickly. "Yoren Longshore wrote:He then raises from his crouching position, but without taking his gaze of the dog: "

Yoren smiles, glad to see someone who is willing to listen instead of simply getting disgusted.
"
Yes, some call him the red God. Whomever says they have powers beyond mortal comprehension is at best mis informed. We are GRANTED powers by R'hollor, a servant of R'hollor who has let the darkness in his heart lead his action will lose his powers, that is if he is lucky and not killed outright."
Yoren pauses eyeing his audience: "
So to answer your question in short, we are granted powers, but these are not permanent."
Yoren smiles: "
I do appreciate an attentive audience. I believe that people who are themselves unorthodox have a tendency to hear other out, instead of ridiculing me as a madman"
He pauses: "
if I may ask you a question too, was it hard to prove yourself as a soldier by your sex or is the Coldbrooks more informed on such issues?"
Yoren asks looking curious.

"
They're a Northern house, and Lord Tomas is a Northern man. It seems not many women in most of Westeros choose to fight, but if you simply show you're good at it, the men of the North won't overlook you. So no, they weren't purposely more difficult on me than on their other soldiers,"
she sums. "
Either way, I won't say I was shown any favor."
"
It sounds like the followers of Rh'llor stand on the edge of a knife,"
she adds, trying to turn it back toward religion. "
What made you turn your back on Him Who Swallows the Salty Sea?"

Yoren accepts the re railing. "
I never turned my back on The Drowned God. My belief has always been based around the truth. The Drowned God was never meant as a litteral explanation of the world. The Drowned God is a face of the truth, a part of the truth seeded by the true god: R'hollor."
Yoren smiles: "
All religions have truth in them. In simpler times people could not comprehend R'hollor, so he planted seeds of truth, hidden in figurative stories. This then trained people up to be able to understand R'hollor later on. Now those that has seen the truth tries to show the world this, one man at a time. This we do to help R'hollor in his fight with the great Other, to keep the world safe."
Yoren looks down to the dog: "
Even this dog may have a role in this fight, small as it may be."

"
He's just a dog,"
she says, on the defensive. "
My dog. Even if he can help, you'll keep away with your fire shows and rituals if you know what's good for you."
"
So, the Drowned God is a figurative story?"
she deduces, a subtle sneer tugging at her face. "
I doubt that will sit well with some of your brothers, and surely not with the Iron Islands. Feel free to say what you like about the Old Gods and the Seven, if that be the case."
This clearly amuses her.

Squinting his eyes for a moment recognizing the bait "
As figurative as any other God"
shooting daggers with his eyes "
Truth be told they all answer when they want and whenever they please, and it is not very often"
shrugging his shoulders.

Yoren nods approvingly in the direction of Athelstan. "
Exactly like that. Except of course that R'hllor answers where the others would stay silent. His followers have powers for this reason- as he actually answers their wishes."
