Ellie was watching the royal Ladies as the scene began to explode all around. She was tussled here and there by would be spectators and proponents. Pushing and elbowing her way back to the front she stops. Here she saw Dunstan step forward Ben at his side. She heard Dunstan's words followed by Ben's. Her head started shaking a negative response, her lips curling to shout , but no words came out. Just a lone sob. Tears welled and cascaded over her freckle covered cheeks. Dear Gods no! I have just got him back.

Corrine spotted Ellie as she fought her way to the front of the crowd, and was struck with dread. She was right in the thick of it, and things were still tense. Corrine made her way to where Ellie was, apologising profusely and largely in futility as she pushed her way through. When she reached Ellie, she grabbed her by the arm;

"
Ellie, it's too dangerous here right now. Come back to the doorway. It'll be safer,"
she urged her friend.

Her face said who are you, but somewhere inside her pushed her to follow her friend. She let Corrine lead her away, a blank expression, and steady stream of tears.

Corrine remarks, then looks quizzically at Loreia;

"
My sister?"
"
Gwyneth 'Marsten'? Aren't the two of you related, m'lady?"
She grows pale, knowing she made a grave blunder. "
Oh! My mistake, forgive my assumin'. It won't happen again."
She bows again, matching Corrine's height with the gesture.

*I forgot they were cousins, but this fits just fine.*

[ooc: I mixed up my timeline a bit, so assume Corrine excused herself briefly to go fetch Ellie before this post]

Corrine gets them back to the group by the door and hands her a handkerchief, resting a hand on her shoulder, trying to reassure her.

"
It'll be alright, Ellie. Even if Ben gets chosen, he's brave and strong. He'll be alright."

"
It's alright. You are not the first to have made that error,"
Corrine replies kindly, waving it off with a slender hand. "
I have another cousin who just arrived today too, Dyana. I think you two might get on. She has a passion for martial arts, and I understand you to be highly capable."

Loreia remains silent while Corrine placates 'Ellie', knowing better than to join words in a tender moment between people to whom she is an outsider.

"
Thank you, m'lady. You're very kind."

"
Dunstan, Baelon, Benedict...
she contemplates. "
And the guilty party just had to be an Longshore man. Now everyone's worried anyway. It's not going to be Dunstan, if Lord Tully is sensible. I would hate to be the one to choose."
She leans on her toes in anticipation of Lord Tully's choice.

Ellie digs deep to pull herself together. She takes the offered handkerchief, wiping her slowing tears. She sniffs repeatedly. "
Thank you, my lady."
She looks up to Corrine a sad smile of appreciation. "
I am sure you are right."
Her words hold no conviction.

He is not yet judged guilty,"
Corrine corrects, tactfully. The Gods will decide that tomorrow. Do you count yourself among the faithful, Loreia?"

"
I do, m'lady. With all respect, don't you wonder if he had to kill him?"
She lingers from the three would-be champions to Athelstan and Yoren, and her tone shifts to half-absent. "
It was a sparring match. How did it come to killin'? And it's not just kinslayin' in question, but also the Guest Right. He must be very foolish, if not very bold, to test it, as you can see from the result. I believe he knew exactly what he was doing before it happened."

She pauses, as if finished, then adds, "
Not that I care if the Longshores are given to slaughterin' their own kind. They are guilty of crimes the Targaryens don't have the stones to put them all to the sword for, just makin' them do it somewhere else. It's very bad timin', is all."

"
Personally, I believe it was an accident,"
Corrine replied, glancing at Athelstan. "
Many men have been killed inadvertently in spars and tilts and so on. I have spoken with Athelstan Pyke, and I do not believe him to be a grasping man. If he truly wished to get away with murder, I think he would be smart enough to do it quietly, away from witnesses. He also does not seem to have any other reason to kill Rodrric. It's not like he is in line for succession. No, I think, in this case, his boldness in battle merely got the better of him. But, I was not there, so I can only speak for my imperfect impression. The Gods will show us the right of it."

Gwyneth Marsten wrote:"
Ser Mallister,"
Gwyn says, with a courteous bow. Despite the formality, her emotions are boiling close to the surface now...a far cry from her usual poise. "
There is a man who has volunteered for this duty who is dear to me, and...I can't bear the thought of seeing him matched against that creature in a fight that may end in death."

Her voice trembles as she sacrifices her pride on the altar of devotion. "
I beg you, ser. This man's claim to be champion is strong, but nowhere near as strong as yours. You can do more than uphold justice and repay the ironborn with steel right now. You can preserve the life of an innocent man, who is doing the wrong thing for the right reason."

"
Well spoken my lady, but by the sounds of things Ser Baelon has that honour."

"
Fear not - my lance may seek him out later in the tourney for my lady - justice against the ironborn is often delayed, but seldom denied."

Gwyn nodded slowly, and seemed to...collapse into herself a little, becoming slightly smaller.

"
Yes,"
she said woodenly. "
That is a great comfort. Thank you, Ser Mallister. Ser Tullison. Excuse me, please."

With that, she turned and started back towards the other Marstens with a stiff, shellshocked gait.

Well that's that. I'll have to make the best of it.

I shall carry out my duties with honor in the eyes of gods and men. I take no joy in the task,..."

That's certainly true

Ser Fendrel Bartheld is also among the many who have gathered to watch the judgment of the kinslaying Ironborn.
