[D6:Round 4]Ser Baelon v Ser Meddric Manderly Empty [D6:Round 4]Ser Baelon v Ser Meddric Manderly

Post by Baelon Drakeson Sat May 23, 2015 1:47 pm

In the evening, upon hearing that Ser Meddric was to be his opponent, Baelon writes the northern knight a message:
Ser Meddric Manderly -
I write to wish you health. I have just learned that we are to face each other in the joust tomorrow, and I hope your health has recovered by then.
I would find no joy in besting an ill man, and would rather lose against you at full strength than defeat you because you were ill.
That being said, I will not hold back - that would be an insult to your skills, and a disservice to those who cheer for me.
I look forward to meeting on the morrow.
With sincerity and respect,
Ser Baelon Waters

Well, it's mostly true. My victory against Lord Manfryd was a coin toss, at best. TIlting against Ser Meddric at full health would likely not go my way, so him being weakened means I might progress to the top eight... I'd be lying if that thought did not please me.

A reply arrives from Ser Medrick post-haste. Notably it leaves off Ser Baelon's bastard status.

Ser Baelon,
A chivalrous gesture. I offer a similar hope you have recovered from your bout with Lord Mooton, it is a grand thing to see a joust end with both unhorsed and settled on foot.

Similarly, I would hope to best you at your full strength, but will also hold nothing back - to do so would indeed shame both of us.

Victory to he whose lance is best placed,

Sincere respect,
Ser Medrick Manderly

Ser Medrick Manderly is by far the stronger combatant of the two Manderly knights present, but is more of a melee combatant than a lancer.

Nevertheless, he is a stern test for any foe, trusting to his knightly ardour to make up for his fierce attempt to unhorse his foe in the first pass.

Pass 1
Maneuver: High in the saddle 2
Passive Ride: 13 + 5 (anointed) = 18

Baelon takes the hit well, scarcely feeling it, but at the last moment a fly flew into his visor, so his own lance out of position and glances harmlessly off of Ser Meddrick's shield.
He raises his visor to let the struggling insect free, an repositions himself for the next pass. Being a lance behind, he chooses a more aggressive stance.

: 9d6k4-2 14 Holy crap that's a bad roll. His Anointed makes it an outright miss.

[D6:Round 4]Ser Baelon v Ser Meddric Manderly Empty Re: [D6:Round 4]Ser Baelon v Ser Meddric Manderly

Post by Baelon Drakeson Mon May 25, 2015 11:22 pm

While Ser Meddric's first blow hardly did anything, his second blow was like running headfirst into a castle wall.
However, Baelon gave at least as good as he got, slamming his lance into the Manderly knight with ferocious intensity.
Baelon falls from his horse, oblivious to fate of his foe.

: 9d6k4+2 21 2 DoS, TN 12 Ride to remain in saddle
2*9 = 18 damage -10 AR;
Ser Meddric takes 8. Falling from his horse would be another 9.

Ser Meddric does 18-7AR = 11 Damage.

OOC: Taking an injury would be quite tempting, but having a -1 on all my rolls in the Darry fight is rather risky, and I would be at -3 to my ride test, which would not be good odds... if I fell, I'd have to take 2 more injuries to remain undefeated, but that is way too many going into a battle. So no injuries for me!

EDIT: Math error... only two DoS, not 3... (thanks Theo). Ser Meddric has a much better chance of keeping his seat now, so I probably just lose... but perhaps not, if he falls and chooses not to take injuries...

Now for baelon's decision on spending destiny (to reduce foe's tilt), stay in saddle, take injuries etc]

Post by Baelon Drakeson Tue May 26, 2015 2:14 pm

OOC: nope, my decision making was done: None of the above. Baelon has been defeated.
It's up to others, now:
Does Ser Meddric take injuries/spend DP to remain undefeated?
If not, how do the judges rule?
Does anyone try to influence the judges?

If only I had full plate already - that would have been a win for me (assuming I didn't flub the ride test).

Post by Dunstan Tullison Tue May 26, 2015 2:32 pm

Dunstan watched the joust with anticipation, and when both men hit the ground he stood up, firmly believing it was Baelon that rode much better against the merman knight.

Lifting his both arms in the air he started chanting

"
Baelon, Baelon, Baelon!!"
in order to incite the crowd.

OOC: Any bonus from endless drinks Dunstan bought the smallfolk in the Inn is welcome Reader:)

"
Baelon! Baelon!"

Another voice took up Dunstan's cry. Sitting farther back, face averted from the field so she couldn't see the fight, Gwyn had attended this one after all! She was pale, and her voice shook as she added her voice to Dunstan's, robbing it of her usual force...but it WAS another voice, and just having a beautiful girl kick in was bound to help somewhat!

[D6:Round 4]Ser Baelon v Ser Meddric Manderly Empty Re: [D6:Round 4]Ser Baelon v Ser Meddric Manderly

Post by Reader Tue May 26, 2015 9:41 pm

Ser Medrick's lance had been the firmer over the two passes, and Ser Fredryk Vance declares the Northerner the victory after consulting with Lord Tully. Truth be told, once Baelon's fate was in Lord Tully's hands the result was never in question.

Lady Alysane takes note of Lord Tullison and Lady Gwyneth's exuberant support for the bastard knight and whispers something to her husband. Nothing good, going by the subsequent narrowing of Lord Tully's eyes.

However, the Lord and Lady of house Tully are not the only high dignitaries present. While he remains impassive as Baelon is knocked to the dirt, inwardly Prince Daemon is pleased to Dunstan and Gwyneth raise their voice in support of Baelon.

After-all, the rogue prince has plans for both the Marstens and Tullisons, and a role for Baelon to play in binding them to him...

[OOC: Medrick takes 16 - 10 damage = 6 plus another 8 that goes straight through his armour, so he takes 1 injury to remain concious.

Ser Baelon is briefly knocked cold by Ser Medrick's blow, but suffers no lasting ill-effects, although his ears ring for a day

Prince Daemon Targaryen's disposition towards Dunstan and Gwyn improves to amiable - please note this on your character sheet

Lord Gorman Tully &
Lady Alysane Tully's towards Dunstan and Gwyn declines to dislike - please note this on your character sheet]

Post by Baelon Drakeson Tue May 26, 2015 9:59 pm

Baelon pulls himself upright, bows to his victorious opponent, and then waves to his adoring (and adorable) supporters in the stands before casually departing the field. It had been a good run, but all good things come to an end sooner or later.

OOC: Not terribly surprising, Lord Gorman had it out for me even before I snubbed him at the trial. On the other hand, I drive two houses further into the arms of the black faction... even in defeat, I win. Laughing
