What is upgraded holdings? How does it work? And which page?

As in upgrading a tower to a hall, hall to a small castle, etc.

Ok, it makes sense doesn't it? Using the tower as a foundation should at least give a little discount...

Baelon wrote:Ok, so as we wrap up this arc and seem to be going strong (yay!), I have some mechanics questions about house stuff.
First and foremost, regarding holdings.
1) Can the "
Begin Projects"
action be used to invest in multiple holdings at once, assuming all the required resources/prerequisites were already met?
2) Can holdings be upgraded, and if so, is there a discount? If it is full price then it would make more sense to build the new structure alongside the old rather than upgrading... which really would make no sense.
1) One per month, sorry.
2) Yes, upgrading allowed and encouraged. The UK is full of "
Upgraded"
fortifications.

So, those assists to Ser Derrock's volunteering to fight Ser Benjen aren't legal?

1) Didn't initially notice that Septon had Assists to coordinate on. Thought he was the only contributor and you can't coordinate without an assist.
2) However, Ser Derrock had only just returned at that point while Ser Jorah was a longer serving player in the process of making his return.
- Ser Derrock has had a moment in the sun already, so it felt fairer to just oppose persuasion rolls rather than pile on assists on either side.
- Obviously happy to have both of them as players and that both stepped forward. Offseason coming up for similar activities - a bunch of jousts/combat scenes is an obvious choice for Offseason activiites.
Hope everyone is okay with that!

Re: Mechanical discussion
There's actually three people stepping forth to assist Derrock, though one of them is the septon, so he can't coordinate and assist at the same time anyway.
How many assists that are allowable is another matter.

Indeed, only spotted that after the fact (the rest were on a previous page).
However, for the reasons noted in my previous post, I'm going with the joust this way. Ser Jorah's roll was higher and he's been an active participant until a brief pause - it felt cruel to deprive him of an important moment.
Who knows, this may be a case of being careful what you wish for.

Pffft, I had wanted to see Lord Haig hack the shit to tiny little pieces. That would be so much more enjoyable than some PC.

Alright, just wanted to understand why the input of several players was overruled. Nobody seems to be minding it, anyway. ^^

Largely a victim of the page transition rather than my callous high and mighty attitude! That said, length of tenure plays a part here too - technically, Ser Kevan Lyras had first refusal on the trial by combat as he was denied an earlier opportunity. As in the Greens &
Blacks event, I didn't want longer serving players to miss out due to the (very welcome) return of another PC. In the Green &
Black event it was easier to spread the love - this is a solo event by its nature.
However, Ser Derrock got an extra melee slot and I'm sure can pursue similar opportunities for justice in the offseason.
Theomore - watching Ser Haig hack Benjen apart might have been fun for you, but perhaps not the other PC. :;

Re: Mechanical discussion
Pffft, who made Benjen rape the girl? Who made the trial happen? Who set it up for trial by combat? Who arranged for Benjen to get wounded the day before the trial? Who incited Lord Haig, the guy with a vicious weapon to stand against him?
I kinda feel entitled to rant a little bit, if people want to partake in the fun, they can show some initiative and make their own. Some do, the rest shouldn't be allowed to piggyback into the machinations of others just because they don't.
Oh well, I suppose plan B of getting Benjen to fight to the death has a decent chance of working.....

While you've driven this story, other players have played a part too. There's also a tradeoff of my time to consider - because I'm playing this out, other stories get less time. That's why it's helpful if stories weave in to each other and PCs are often involved. If I had a staff of fellow narrators there would be room for lots of different stories.
It's important to consider the other players.
Also, this isn't a fight to the death (merely to Benjen's castration, if found guilty).

Re: Mechanical discussion
Well, I kinda did ask if you had enough time without having to call for additional help before launch, you know...water under the bridge, but still.
And I did consider to bring in some PC's into this as well, Nathan was involved in it (and he was the one suggesting Lord Haig in the first place), Kevan had the offer, Derrock could have received it if player was around. Jorah didn't fit the criteria, old gods house supporting blackwoods was precisely what Theo did not want. Though with Derrock from green house popping up, I can paint the narrative to the Freys that I want.

Re: Mechanical discussion
Well folks, sorry for not being around earlier to add my weight to the conflicts. I'm sure Reader is doing a good job, rewarding reliability for Ser Jorah and all.
Plus, I think I'm doing pretty well for how much I've played. I would have enjoyed the opportunity to take on Ser Benjen, but I hope Ser Jorah does a good job of it too.

Thanks Derrock, I appreciate the positive and understanding attitude. There will be similar opportunities for you too - feel free to suggest ideas in your personal forum.
As you yourself note, you're having a lot of success already! Best glory/posts ratio. :;

You use glory on objectives and on benefiting your house.

Re: Mechanical discussion
We can check glory totals at the end, don't worry.
Thanks Yoren!
Glory can by used to boost your own rolls (+1B per point of glory spent) or to contribute towards house/personal objectives (see your house objectives for an example) or it can be traded in to boost house resources (power, defence, wealth etc).

Re: Mechanical discussion
Just a point of interest - yes, you can spend glory to get +1B, but except in the direst emergencies it is not really worth it.
Though I suppose spending a glory to get a glory + some other benefit (like I could have done in the G&
B brawl) might be worth it.
EDIT: Adjust tense to avoid implication that glory could be spend after the roll.

Can glory be spent after the roll for an additional +1B or has it to be before the roll?

I believe before, after is generally the domain of destiny points. I see how my previous post might be misleading... I'll change that.
