Having only a glimmer of hope, one not helped in the slightest by the physique of his opponent, Theomore has little else to ride for than an honorable defeat. He does not even try to unhorse the unhorsable. All that matters is to break the lance, and stay in the saddle. There's some gold riding on it as well, but that is less important than bragging rights. It is folly to attempt to aim with the tip of the lance, the aurochs will simply twist to brush it away. Instead, Theomore aims to make it connect in such a fashion that the force will make it snap. No threat to his opponent of course, the power of the lance blow being too easily absorbed by his plate, but the lance will be strained in ways it handles more poorly. Or somesuch spake a maester. All Theomore cares about is that it usually works.

High in the Saddle +2, special maneuver with shoddy lance.

Screw shoddy dices, spend destiny for test die conversion. Result: Theo breaks lance equivalent to a 0 DoS.

He may not try to win, but he most certainly does attempt to make it appear that he is making a heroic effort against impossible odds.

The Shieldbreaker appears to be in top form today. He rides magnificently into the tilts, waving to the smallfolk and nodding to ser Theomore before proceeding to bow before the nobleborn and royalty.

His face hides a small grimace as he bows before the Prince.

Something about Ser Theomore didn't ring too right to the Aurochs. Something in the way Ayleth glanced at him, or in his smile, perhaps. He rides forward with his heels low and his head high, keeping a close eye on his opponent until the moment of impact. Just as the Tullison's spear surprisingly shatters after what Ser Derrock judged would be a poorly-aimed ride, his own speartip thumps hard against his opponent's plate.

[D6 Joust R. 5] Ser Theomore Tullison v Ser Derrock Swann Empty Re: [D6 Joust R. 5] Ser Theomore Tullison v Ser Derrock Swan

[So Derrock makes one post, then disappears again, after conferring with reader on how to deal with certain circumstances, the ruling is that Theo's scheme stands, and that the 0.3% chance of Derrock's lances not breaking does not happen, end result is that Derrock wins, but Theo's schemings gives the Aurochs -1D (that goes away before day 7), which is just enough for Theo to not take injuries. The IC is written out as if Derrock gets 1 DoS on each strike, also makes the assumption that both Tyron Blackwood and Loreth Lansdale was unhorsed, it's implied rather strongly in the first, Loreth could take injuries in the latter.]

Three times the Aurochs and the pageant champion clash, Ser Theomore had certainly outdone himself by unhorsing a member of the kingsguard earlier in the day, but all agreed that even such a fortunate blow was not like to be enough to win against a man that had lived and breathed tourneys since before he was born. Nobody had placed any coin on Ser Theomore, though the Tullison knight himself had quite brazenly declared that he would break all his lances and remain in the saddle, talk is that he stood to win three times as much coin on that wager than Ser Derrock's ransom was worth. Not even Theomore seemed optimistic enough to be tempted by the odds of him winning. Surely, such winnings that might promise could perhaps match the tourney prize? More than anyone, however, Theomore knows that luck should not be pushed. There were no such thing as luck, really. Luck was what the poultry called it when an opportunity passed by the clever man that was looking for it.

His first lance only barely snaps, not his best effort, but it works out. Ser Derrock's lance hits true, Theomore ponders for a moment if he could get his shield in front of it if the Aurochs didn't have that drink served to him by Raff. Not likely. His horsemanship is splendid as always as far as staying in the saddle goes. Boosted by the confidence of his machinations working, Theomore hits much better for the second and third pass, his opponent slowed just enough that his blows can be absorbed by the shield. While it's clear enough that Ser Derrock remains the better jouster as everyone had indeed expected, Theomore surprises everyone yet again by making good on his promise, none of the four jousters the Auroch's has faced so far, including strong contenders such as Ser Loreth and Ser Tyron, have managed to remain in his saddle after three passes, and none of them had left three broken lances in their wake. Ser Theomore manages to do both.

Despite at least one call for Lord Tully to declare it a draw, Ser Derrock is awarded the victory, and all agree that it was quite clear who the better jouster of the day is, despite Theomore outdoing himself once again. Not just once like he did against Ser Rickard, but three times. Nor does the Tullison man seem disappointed, the way he carries himself with pride and confidence, a deaf man might believe that it was not the Aurochs that was awarded the victory.
