Round 3
Loreia pushes against Loreth with her shield to hamper his balance. Although he doesn't see through this, her tactic proves ineffective from built-up exertion. In an attempt to confuse him, she times her attacks with Ben's.

[ooc: unfortunately, for purposes of the 1 attack per round limit, assist counts as an attack, so you can only do one or the other.]

OOC: Darn. Then it will be a Maneuver. A failed maneuver. Pay no attention to the dice, they work for the modified action.

Initiative 2
With no shield Ser Loreth is at disadvantage against multiple opponents. Ben grasps this and again as Loreth negates Loreia's maneuver he sees his opportunity. With precision and raw ability he strikes down hard on the same opening as earlier. This time his blade finds flesh and muscle with a spray of blood.

Round 4 Baelon
"
Very well then..."
Baelon darts forth with the speed of a striking cobra, sweeping Ben's legs out from under him and following with a swift downward blow that catches Ben on the shoulder, slicing through the leather of his brigandine jack, finding a gap between the steel plates. He then takes a half-step back, interposing his shield between him and any oncoming attacks.

Round 5 Baelon
"
I could try to take you down in one blow like I did with Ben,"
he says, his sword sweeping across her less-armored legs almost lazily, "
but I wouldn't want to give the impression that my future liege lord's best guard was too easy to defeat."
He presses the attack, driving her back with a series of hard swings. "
Or that I am a pony with only one trick."

Round 5
Loreia grins through increasingly ragged breathing. "
Oh well."
The implication of her words are clear. She drops her shield as she had in the group she'd graduated from. Same tactic, different reason. She pushes herself forward into the valiant attack she yearns for. However, Baelon's focus on defense prevents her from landing a single blow.

OOC: your armor penalty is 3, you should have 11 CD with Cautious.

Round 6 Baelon
Baelon steps to the side, deflecting Loreia's blade off of his shield with ease, bringing his sword upward in a stop-thrust, using her own momentum against her.
He then uses his position of leverage to push her back and to the side.
"
You can't beat me when you're this worn out already. Just save yourself the aggravation and yield.
We should try this again sometime when we are both fresh. I'd be curious to see you in peak form."
Lesser Action: : 7d6k4-1 19 vs 9 CD, 3 DoS, 15 - 7AR = 8 Damage [a fatigue would lower that to 2 DoS, 3 Damage]
Lesser Action: : 7d6k5-1 20, 1 DoS, Loreia is moved to E4 and takes -1D to all tests for a round.

OOC: my CD calculation is : Base 10 (attributes) -3 (AP) +4 (large shield) = 11, thus 14 with cautious attack or ignoring AP, 17 with both. Not quite as good as Ser Jorah's CD, but close...
Also, your attack should have been only k3 due to the -1D from my Maneuver action... not that it mattered.

"
Indeed, second place in a tourney of this size is a considerable achievement. Now please rise, and hold your head high as you exit. That much, at least, you have earned."
Baelon raises his sword in salute, then turns to the royal box and performs another salute. Then, with a flourish - one he picked up from the Prince in their nightly training sessions - he sheathes his sword.
He bows in the direction of the royal box and the gathered nobles, turns, and exits the field.

He doesn't get far before Gwyn barrels into him, giving him a fierce embrace for a moment before remembering he may be hurt. She hadn't been watching the fight itself, but had clearly been hovering somewhere just out of sight, waiting for him to emerge.
"
I can't tell you how proud I am of you,"
she says, glowing up at him. "
Are you all right? Do you need to see the Maesters?"

Loreia stands and, watching Baelon depart, decides to emulate him with a bowing salute to the royals and quits the field behind him.
"
Wonder how he managed that,"
she mutters to herself at Baelon's response to Gwyn.

Re: D8: Melee - Final
Cheers go up from some elements crowd at the bastard knight's victory, although many greens seem disappointed at watching the final three come down to an all black affair.
Indeed, from some elements of the crowd the cheering seems as much at Loreia's defeat as Ser Baelon's victory.
Prince Daemon himself stands from his seat and brazenly applauds Baelon's victory, earning reproachful glare from Princess Rhaenyra.
Compared to Athelstan's trial by combat and the joust's scattered shouts of support, this time the cries of "
Dragon's son! Dragon's son!"
are stronger and more full throated. Princess Rhaenyra folds her arms in a vain attempt to shut the noise out, while Ser Lorent Marbrand of the Kingsguard steps protectively in front of the princess, alert to any trouble. Mercifully, the storm that will strike Riverrun that night is still only brewing and the melee prize giving is not troubled by unscheduled violence.
The injured and unconscious are hauled away, but few eyes are on them beyond family and lovers.
Instead, the crowd's attention is on the pristine white figure of Ser Erryk Cargyll himself who approaches Ser Baelon with the day's spoils.
With Ser Erryk's visor up, Baelon can see the Kingsguard's encouraging smile as the white knight kneels in front of him to present a beautiful longsword.
The crowd stills momentarily, ready to applaud the winner as once he affirms his triumph by grasping the blade.

With broad grin, Baelon accepts the sword from Ser Erryk.
Gods, this thing is gaudy. That can be fixed though. The Princess does not look happy. Best not to antagonize her... I'll keep this neutral then.
Raising his new sword into the air, he exclaims,
"
For the glory of the Seven Kingdoms!"

The crowd cheers once more, this time more neutral applause and acclaiming Baelon's name rather than controversial Black chants or Green insults.
