Against the Mountain Clans
Hello Everyone,
Please note the troops you're contributing to the campaign against the mountain clans.
Ser Kevan Lyras, as House Marsten's highest Warfare check roller on an old Marsten private thread has a reasonable estimate of the mountain clans' strength.

The Marstens can share this informatio as they like.
Please note your troop contributions here and I'll add them to the list.
Committed forces
20 Regular Cavalry, adventurers and second sons attracted by Princess Rhaenyra's Black banner, but stiffened by several experience men due the Black Faction's high score
20 Green Cavalry, individually skilled but lacking discipline. Sons and cousins of great and small Reach houses, chiefly loyal to Ser Jon Roxton who leads them.
20 Veteran Heavy Mounted Archers [unit name forthcoming], led by the newly ennobled Lord Baelon Drakeson
100 Regular archers, a mercenary company of archers adeptly recruited by Edmund Lyras. They expect to be paid 1 unit of wealth for their service, plus claim 1 unit of wealth of any loot. Recruited with bluff and expects the campaign to go easily.
100 elite personal guard, the Company of the Morningstar [House Coldbrook]
100 veteran guards, the Company Grenward [House Coldbrook]
100 Green support [House Dulver]
100 Trained archers [House Dulver]
100 Trained raiders [House Longshore] - Led by Leifnarr Longshore, a famed raider and younger brother to Lord Longshore
100 Trained archers [House Longshore] - Led by Yoren Longshore, Lord Longshore's recently returned son and heir presumptive, an eccentric red priest

Will wait until the Marstens reveal or not reveal their numbers.

Re: Against the Mountain Clans
Possibly a stupid question, but we're going against the *mountain* clans. Cavalry can't fight in mountains, so why is so much of the supporting force cavalry?
Doesn't make a difference to us, as we've already negotiated exactly what forces we're supplying.
Company of the Morningstar: 100 elite personal guard.
Company Grenward: 100 veteran guards.

Knights gonna knight. :;
):
Also, not all the terrain is going to be sheer mountains - odd plateau, some hills etc. Marsten's own lands are a mix of Mountain and Hill, seeing what Kriegar and Lyras generate now.
Thankfully - p111 of GoT edition "
A cavalry unit that dismounts becomes infantry."
I'll go update the OP with the Coldbrook troops./

but if they do dismount they are only 1/5th of a unit, so we'd do better with them mounted, even in a little rough terrain...

I'm not an expert on the warfare rules, but I don't think the number of troops in a unit actually comes into play at all. The cavalry unit would count as an infantry unit... not 1/5th of an infantry unit.
Actually, now that I'm looking for it, I don't see where it says that Cavalry are only 20 people? The only thing I found was in terms of spacing, that a 10m square on the map only holds 20 cavalry and their horses... to me that implies that a unit of cavalry (while mounted) takes up 5 squares, not that it has less people. Otherwise they could have said that each unit takes up 1 square, yeh?
As for keeping them mounted, the only place they would need to dismount would be in a mountain domain that does not also have a road (or a city, but that won't be an issue here).
In those cases it is not a matter of choice - mounted cavalry simply cannot enter.

Ah yes, they didn't actually say "Daveth Coldbrook wrote:I only have the old rules, but it's under House &Baelon wrote:I'm not an expert on the warfare rules, but I don't think the number of troops in a unit actually comes into play at all. Although sometimes it's good to have squads, especially for smaller engagements. Maybe do something like dragoons with them... I don't know.

Dyana fights the clans on horseback. It's not all narrow passes and cliffsides.

Not fancy, but enduring and functional. Beautiful in it's own way. Looking out from a nook in the mountains over Hartsbridge, the river running through it to the East. The palette is stone greys, punctuated by brown bracken, patches of green and gold farmland, and smatterings of purple &
white heather among the rocks.

Indeed, wonderfully put.
No doubt it shall rank highly among the prizes shared out by the victorious Greens after House Marsten is cast down for abandoning Andal traditionalism in favour of female inheritance.

Re: Against the Mountain Clans
Also - nice lands everybody! It would be a shame if anything terrible happened to them while you were all away on campaign...
PCs won't miss out on action, but armies travel much more slowly than characters. If anything bad happens, PCs will be alerted by Raven and should be able to take part with any forces left at home, but the troops allocated to the Marsten campaign won't make it back in time.
You guys can take it up with House Marsten if you feel under-manned while your troops are away, but they might justifiably wonder what you're complaining about.
