As he witnessed the sight before him for the first time, he made a sign to the Seven and a quick prayer for the dead before steeling himself for what lay ahead. He was glad Trelane and Gwyneth were not here to see these horrific sights. Signalling the troops to protect them while they investigated, he dismounted from Argo and began assessing the carnage.

After finishing his investigations, he turned to his two main companions, noting the other arrivals who were later in coming to the village. At the moment, he was ignoring them to concentrate on their own efforts. He was sure whom was responsible for this atrocity, but confirmation was needed with the evidence they already had.

Daveth walked among the devastation, unfeeling. His brain went to a quiet place, where all was simple data. The dead revealed information, and were just meat. Not someone's son, daughter, mother, father, brother, sister. Just meat. Information. It was the only way he could handle it. But he knew that under the surface bubbled a steadily-building rage.

Politics be damned. Someone will die for this.
Ah, yes. The perfect way to deal with a large number of dead. Create more. Politics always matters, especially if you want to prevent more like this.

Maester Leopold and Daveth were funereal as they worked together with Ser Jorah to isolate the poison. Fearful of the answers it would give them, and the questions that would follow. But continuing, regardless.

Once they were done with their tests, Daveth and Maester Leopold shared a look in silence that communicated everything that needed to be said. Finally, Daveth nodded, and they both got up and went to their maester's kits, gathering together the components they needed. Both of their jaws were set in determination. They worked together in silence. When they'd finished their preparations, Daveth looked up with burning eyes at the ruined village.

I am Daveth *fucking* Coldbrook, and I am going to heal this land. Fuck those who say I'm interfering. Not for one week, not for one day, not for one hour, will I sit by and let this atrocity stand when I can help. I can't bring the dead people back to life, but I can do so for the land.

Splitting the duties between them, Daveth and Maester Leopold began dosing key parts of the land with their chemical solutions, aimed at countering the poison that had destroyed so much, and bringing the land back to life. It wouldn't be immediate, save for the places least affected, but at their best guess, without aid, the land would take ten months to purge the poison to safe levels. With their work, that should halve. Too long, still. But still a victory.

Jorah ordered some of the Company to help where they could, understanding that these people deserved peace.

Composing himself, he decided that after ensuring Daveth and Leopold were safely returned, he would return to the Septry to see what he could do there.
