From his earlier dealings, Daveth knew which of the servants were happy to talk with him - after all, it was no secret that he had Blackwood blood in him, so he clearly wasn't an enemy, and he was young, friendly, and easy to talk to. So they did. And Daveth mentioned about his own scholarly pursuits, and gently pressed them for all the information they had on their resident maester, Maester Arran.

Passing one of the servant girls, Daveth caught himself doing a double-take from her striking looks. At the same time, she cast a glance back over her shoulder back at him, and smiled at his reaction. Daveth turned has head back forwards, and carried on, focused on the task at hand. Until an old memory intrudes into his thoughts.

One of Daveth's hands reaches up, and gently strokes Dyana's chin to still her motion, and leans in to kiss her. Unlike last time, this is not an unconscious instinct, but a definite choice. Unlike last time, he doesn't meet her eyes with uncertainty as to if she'll accept him, but with confidence and reassurance.

Unlike last time, he doesn't limit himself to a brief peck.

Daveth doesn't lean his body into Dyana's, doesn't push for more than a kiss. Doesn't try and tilt her head up to enter a more dominant position. He just takes all the words he couldn't say before, all the words he could have said just now, and expresses them the only way he can.

A hand rises between them but, unlike last time, it does not interpose. It reaches, for his chest, for his neck, then travels forward and caresses Daveth's nape as she leans into him.

Her other hand is supporting her half-sitting position in the bed. With nothing to support it, the sheets' loyalty slowly falters.

Daveth strides around a corner, and, seeing no-one else in sight, lays his burning forehead against the wall to cool it down. For fuck's sake. It's been a year. I need to let it go. His face hardens as his forehead cools. I need a new strategy. Another few seconds, and he pushes off the wall, composed again. Later. For now, there's work to do. And he sets off to continue his investigation.
