"
Does not the singers say that true love can strike as sudden as lightning?"
Theomore can't directly dismiss such fancies as this.

"
But yes, we care for our smallfolk. Your duty to your people as their lord and protector. This includes the forging of alliances with other houses so that we may call upon their aid when our situation looks grim, just like we would lend these our strength when they need a helping hand to rise up from hardship. Your sister accepts that she must marry for this purpose. Your mother and father had only barely been introduced to each other before they were betrothed. Such is the way of things. Marrying for love is the privilege of the smallfolk, gods knows that we highborn gets everything else."

"
Singers sing of many a thing for sure. You know my favorite song uncle, Lay lay my lass down in the grass. It is about a peasant girl and a Lord is it not, and how they ride together on every morrow of every day and all is good. Singers sing what people want to hear, I'm afraid, as that is quite impossible."
Dunstan says with yet another gaze through the open window.

"
As for alliances we can gain them by being loyal and honest. No need to spread our legs for friends. I would never mention that you are unwed too uncle, and if Yve tells me she does not want to marry she will not marry that person as long as i can still stand."

"
An alliance without a woman to motivate a father or brother to come to the aid of her house, and to compel her husband to do the same for them, is quite fragile. Friendship is all too often forgotten in times of trouble, blood much less so."
Theomore sighs. "
And I will marry for the good of the house should I be called upon to do so"
he does not mention that he'd likely be as faithful as he pleased, if he did not take a liking to her, there would be others. "
It's just that I am just a knight, perhaps with more influence than others, but I have no lands or title to pass on to my children, and thus much less attractive a groom."

Ben watches the two volley back and forth. Theomore's line about smallfolk having the privilege of marrying for love really impressing upon him. He starts to speak a few times but thinks better of it. His eyes dart from Ellie to Yve to even the learned Maester. His words would not sit well with their ears.

Perhaps another time. A more private time. We can talk as men, not knight and Lord. Blood to Blood.

"
It is true I must do everything to protect my people. However bringing a highborn Lady to Mountain's Reach could be perilous to us as well. Depends on the Lady."
Dunstan says sadly.

His Uncle was right, too right. Marei was the only girl Dunstan wanted and he still kept hopes of marrying her. To divert the topic he agreed to not to completely closed to meeting highborn ladies.

"
I promise not to shun away from every noble Lady that comes to visit us. We will see."

"
Then how about we find the sort of lady that it is not dangerous to bring?"
Theomore suggests, no use in pushing it too far, make it seem as if he made the decision. Get him a wife Lady Moraine had said before he departed, and since he was like to break her command concerning ladies, best have some success on the important one, eh?

Might be the lady knew that's how it'd be, crafty as she was.

Ben can feel the tension is there but lessened a small bit. He decides now would be best to continue lessening it. He shoots Dunstan a large grin. "
Come now, we can definitely do some looking. Looking can be most fun. We can treat it as a grand adventure or great hunt!"
He laughs cheerfully.

Dunstan does not look pleased with this conversation. With his face frowning he reluctantly says

"
As I said before, I won shun away any Lady. I'll talk."

He dives in his own head after that sentence and starts thinking of Marei, wishing he could just ride out now with her, on one horse and head back to that village they were in before and fish for living.

Thoughts are clashing in his head, he is visibly unsettled and nervous.
