[Riverlands] Market Town's Marker
Market Town's history is long and complicated, the town having been razed in the past due to war and plague. The town's crafty mayor Esra Stone takes full advantage of these competing claims to defend the town's independence.
However, King Viserys has finally submitted to his clamouring courtiers over the need to avoid conflict by coming to a firm decision over the town's ownership. As ever, the King is unable to come down decisively on one side or the other, and instead demands his noble houses present evidence and proclamations of support at a gathering in the Riverlands. King Viserys even reasons that he can entertain the nobles and smallfolk while avoiding outright responsibility, by having the two strongest claims judged by the Seven themselves in a trial by combat.
Scoring
- Your house lends its support = Vote for a house (including your own) to be awarded Market Town, granting one point for every full ten points of influence your house has.
- Bannerhouse vote = one point for every full twenty points of influence your bannerhouse has (minimum one vote).
- Sacrifice glory = 1 vote per 2 Glory. Half of allocated glory refunded if your house does not finish first/second.
- Some houses possess information/documents that are worth several votes.
- Cash in a favour with an influential NPC/house = 1 vote
Each PC may attempt one of the following actions
- Knowledge (education) to research ancient claims to Market Town = two votes to the two highest scores
- Status (breeding) = one vote to the two highest scores
- Simple intrigue = one vote to the two highest scores
- Assists (but not coordinates) may be made, requiring a roll at TN 9. Doing so uses up that PCs action for this event.
Subterfuge - may be undertaken in addition to Action above
- Stealth (Thievery)/Knowledge(Streetwise) TN 13 = learn information about another house's glory spending, voting intentions, documents worth votes and subterfuge actions (dependent on DoS). Note that this may be discovered and irk other houses. TN set at 13 as every house has basic defences but also weak points.
Consequences/logistics
- Votes do not have to be allocated to your own house and a house's members can split their votes.
- You may wish to keep you initial decisions (on rolls/glory spending etc) hidden in a clearly marked folder in your house forum. I'll eventually set a deadline for this.
- Feel free to have roleplay scenes/intrigues with each other and bargain for support.
- Two highest scores have champions face off for ownership of market town, three passes with tourney lances then settled on foot with sidearms.
Highest score = +2 to Black/Green score.
Second Highest score = +1 to Black/Green score.
- Victorious house in final duel = +2 glory to victorious character, possession of market town.
- Runner-up = +1 glory to defeated combatant.

For those asking via PM/private forum, Market Town has either 5d6 Bannerhouse stats to allow you to establish a cadet branch, or may simply be folded in to the main house at similar statistics.

[ooc: Updated!]
Corrine - 5 votes for House Marsten.
: 7d6k6 18
: 3d6 8
Corrine tries to tread the line between eagerly angling for full control of Market Town, and maintaining a façade of humble, dutiful interest.
They must know I'm an interested party, with a legitimate claim, but one must not seem overly keen. Mustn't push desire into desperation.
She concentrates her efforts in masterly diplomacy, the very image of duty and piety. This is rightfully Marsten land, after all. And the Gods smile on those who are righteous.

Re: [Riverlands] Market Town's Marker
There is a third option, one that the crown has deliberately not elucidated: Market Town operates as an independent chartered town, paying its dues direct to the crown.
Houses are free to advocate this third pathway, but it will need a champion and to place in the top two as with either of the more orthodox choices. IT will also lead to interesting story opportunities.

Re: [Riverlands] Market Town's Marker
Yoren spends little time catering to the local populace, he knows that the lady he has decided to back will provide all pandering needed, especially towards the men in power. Instead he focused his time on reading up on the history of the place, attempting to find usefull tidbits of information. The fact that his house had been known to be interested in trade instead of war helped him gain favour with some of the citys merchants.
He also provides a short writ for anybody uncertain of his standings:
House Longshore will support Lady Corrine. Her determination is what this town needs to increase in status to a truly blossoming trade community. With Longshore in this endorsement is also house Redwayn.
OOC:
Altogether Ereth and Yoren brings 4 votes to Lady Corrine. Yoren will attemt to use his knowledge to help give further votes.

Re: [Riverlands] Market Town's Marker
House Frey has little if any claim to Market Town, much less House Redwain or Longshore for that matter, but his friend Lord Benedict Marsten seems to have a better claim, so he decides to help Yoren who is willing to support House Marsten. Even tho Ereth is more in line to help the man that helped him, but that is not of anyone else concern, he gets to be in good terms with Yoren, Kevan, and Benedict all in one move.
Ereth has no problem endorsing with his seal the same writ as the Longshores to pledge their support to the House Marsten.
Assisting Yoren:

Re: [Riverlands] Market Town's Marker
Mikael approached Nathan as he was buying meat sticks in the central market. "
No idea how you can eat those things."
Nathan gave a broad smile. "
Meat on sticks is one of man's greatest inventions."
He replied as he snipped off a bite of the heavily spiced meat with sharp white teeth.
"
Do you even know what kind of meat that is?"
said Mikael with a mild look of disgust.
Nathan chewed thoughtfully for a moment. "
Venison and pork."
He took another bite. "
Dog... and a hint of rat... or squirrel... it's hard to tell."
Mikael suppressed his gag reflex. "
So I presume you are here for the contest over Market Town. Who will you be backing? House Bartheld?"
"
That is certainly one option."
"
Who if not them? House Marsten?"
"
That is certainly another option."
replied Nathan noncommittally. "
Or I might support independence, or no-one. I have not gathered enough information yet to make an educated decision. We shall see how things go. I do not interfere with situations for the sake of interfering. With the matter being settled with a duel, it's unlikely any faction can be absolutely sure of their victory."
"
So we are just going to watch and wait?"
Nathan nodded. "
It should be a wonderful show, and there could be numerous opportunities regardless of who wins."
He smiled. "
Chatting with new people. Listening to gossip. Drinking cidar with friends.
What better way idle away a beautiful day?"

House Bartheld will give 4 votes for House Tullison.
: 5d6+4 18 +2 for BoA and Head of House
How will tie breakers be handled if someone gets higher than Corrine and I?
(Edited to show the correct amount of votes given)

So Davain would joust against Corrine's champion for the ability to get one vote?

Re: [Riverlands] Market Town's Marker
I don't think so, first of all, the two highest status rolls gets one vote each. Then ties are determined by rerolls or number of bonus dices most likely.
Joust is between highest scoring houses in terms of total votes afaik.

Dunstan-4 votes for Tullison
Theomore-1 vote for Tullison
: 6d6k5+5 27
Ser Theomore appears to be in his element, a sea of courtiers to navigate, new acquaintances, old acquaintances, easy charm, what can Ser Theomore do for his good old friends? He does not mention his nephew by name, nor Mountain's Reach, everyone knows what he wants from them, no need to ask for it, merely hint at the wishes of the good lady Tully, or such designs as the great prince holds in his mind. All to make the conclusion form by itself, that perhaps the young and valiant Lord Dunstan would be the best candidate to serve the realms as protector of Market Town. And if they so happen to benefit from what is best for the realms, that is merely a pleasant coincidence, is it not?

House Drakeson casts one vote for House Marsten, and presents two documents: A letter of support from the Lord of House Royce [1 Vote], and an old map, from around the time of Aegon I's coronation, showing that both House Marsten and House Bartheld have legitimate claim to the lands. [Two votes Marsten, Two votes Bartheld].
Net result: +4 Marsten, +2 Bartheld (congrats on 3rd place lol).
