The Boar and the Lion [Open] Empty The Boar and the Lion [Open]

Post by Davain Bartheld Fri Mar 04, 2016 9:22 pm

With the help of Septon Arlyn and Tristam Hightower, Davain was able to make it back to him tent.

Septon Arlyn wrote:Septon Arlyn clears a space for Lord Davian to lay down. "
Mikael,"
he states to a man, who looks slightly green at the site of the protruding piece of wood. "
Next to my kit are some freshly boiled linens. Would you be a darling and grab one for me. In fact, go ahead and bring over the whole tray. "
Septon Arlyn looks around the Lord's wound, appearing to visualize the wound. The Septon is so engrossed in the visualization that he barely recognized the lack of movement from Mikael, nor the entrance of Maester Fourthwind.

As the Septon breaks his reverie he looks up in time to notice that the tray of linens was still next to. "
Useless"
the Septon mutters to himself. "
If you want something done right, best do it for yourself."
In a louder commanding voice the Septon says, "
Mikael, if you would go fetch Lord Davian's wife? That way she knows where her brave, "
if not slightly foolish "
husband is, that would be greatly appreciated."
The gaurd, grateful for an excuse to leave, nearly trips over himself in his desire to escape the tent. Septon Arlyn chuckles and turns towards the Maester. "
Well the good news is, it appears the shaft missed any major arteries or ligaments. The bad news,"
Septon Arlyn looks at Lord Davian then says, "
it appears it just barely did so. So we will have to be careful in extracting the beam to prevent further damage. "

Septon Arlyn turns to the Maester, "
are you ready?"
The old man and Septon busy themselves, lighting candles, running the metal implements through the flames. Together they pull the beam out and set to work ensuring there was no metal wood or cloth bits left behind to cause the wound to feaster.

As the Septon worked on prepping his tools, Tristam worked carefully to remove Davain's armor. "
Well then, I just have to hope the Seven have blessed your hands."
Davain said half-heartedly as he took a swig of wine. Biting down on the clamp, Davain gave the nod for Arlyn to begin his task. The pain was unbearable as they removed the main splinter, then went about to remove any leftover debris in his shoulder. The fire wine was the worst of all. Anyone near the tent could hear a yell of pain echoing from the Young Lord's tent. Davain flirted with fainting a few time during the operation, but managed to stay awake the whole.

Ayleth hurried to the tent, seriously upset. She felt very worried about her husband and felt rather guilty, as Davain wouldn't have been jousting and gotten hurt if she hadn't encouraged him to joust. Much of life seemed a game to Ayleth, but she'd never intended it to hurt anyone. She encountered Mikhael and accompanied him back to the tent. "
My poor Davain! This is all my fault. What can I do to help?"
she asked when she arrived. She gasped to see her husband in pain. "
I'm so sorry, Davain"

When the jousting was done for the day, Ser Tymon removed his armor, cleaned up, and changed his clothes. He then escorted Lady Helen to the tent of Lord and Lady Bartheld, accompanied by Lady Helen's handmaiden. He waited for the lord's retainers to allow entry and announce them before they entered their tent. Tymon said, “Lord and Lady Bartheld, I would like to introduce my betrothed, Lady Helen Dulver” making proper introductions. He said to Lord Bartheld “I am happy to see that there will be no long-term effects from our joust, I would have felt terribly if there had been a serious injury.” He turned to Lady Bartheld and said “I do ask for your forgiveness my lady. I was recently unhorsed and knocked out cold, and I know the worry it caused Lady Helen. I certainly did not want you to feel that same concern.”

Septon Arlyn says to Lady Bartheld, "
my Lady, your husband is very brave and strong. It appears that the wound will heal properly, although there may be some faint scaring."
Septon Arlyn turns to Maester Fourthwind and gestures with his hand. "
Your Maester here is a very accomplished healer, with his and my assistance we ensured that there was nothing left behind in his flesh. Now the rest is up to the Smith, but I have a feeling that he will be able to use his arm again tomorrow, and have it be back to full strength in a weak."
Septon Arlyn turns now to Lord Davian, "
remember the stretches I showed you. It will help balance your humours while you heal, as well as ensuring that you do not lose any mobility or range of motion in your arm."

Septon Arlyn watches as Lady Bartheld comforts her Lord husband. by the seven, it is rare to see so many arranged marriages end up with so many couples that genuinely care about one another. Perhaps the seven have had their hands in passing the blessings of the maid into this young group of nobles.

As Ser Tymon enters with Lady Helen on his arm Septon Arlyn smiles at the couple, speaking of happy arranged marriages. "
Ser Tymon, Lady Helen, it is a pleasure to see you on this fine day."
He glances around for an escort, although perhaps I should stay to help provide escort for these two love birds, God's only know what young impressionable mind's might consider decent behavior.

Even though Davain was exhausted and in great pain, he was able to pull off a half grin as Ayleth frantically apologized. "
It is not your fault my Swan. While I rode for your happiness, it is your love and happiness that makes living in this world bearable."
Placing his hand on her stomach. "
Let’s just try and limit put our son in this same situation."

Davain spent the hours since the operations resting in his tent. He was gently awoken with the announcement of Ser Tymon and Lady Helen's arrive. Getting fully dressed would take too much time and pain so Davain was helped into breeches and dawned a cloak over his shoulders. "
Ser Tymon, Lady Helen, sorry I couldn't make sure I was properly dressed for you, but in my present condition it is rather hard to do so."
He said, nudging towards his left shoulder which was heavily badged and his arm was in a sling. "
Please have a sit. Can I offer you some wine or water? How have you faired in the lane for the rest of the day?"
After refreshment have been served and pleasantries exchanged, Davain place a sack of coins onto the table. "
Down to the matter of my ransom. My armor and horse are yours if you wish, or you can take a sum of 50 gold. I have thought it over and I'm willing to offer you something just as valuable as the latter options. We are both warriors who have shown interest in keeping matters of succession in line with that of tradition. A warrior is only as good as his arms and armor. Hart Home is home to one of the finest smiths it the Riverlands and perhaps the realm. I am prepared to host you, Lady Helen, and the rest of House Dulver at Hart Home in the coming months. At the fest I will gift to you a fine piece of armor. I'm sure this gesture will ease Lady Helen's worries knowing that you are entering battle with only the finest protection."

(OOC - Have no fear Septon, Lady Helen's virtue is quite safe and her handmaiden, Lena, is with her wherever we go. If I forget to add it in, just let me know and I will edit it in, as I did the last post.)

Ser Tymon gives his thanks for the offer of a drink to Lord Bartheld and, after speaking with Lady Helen, they each take a glass of wine. As they sit down Tymon says "
Lord Bartheld, your offer is extremely generous and I thank you, as one warrior to another. I would much prefer spending time at Hart Home and your kind offer of the craftsmanship of your armorsmiths as long as Helen feels the same, and her family has no objections to a stay at Hart Hill. I am guessing she would much prefer my having armor for my protection, after the scare I gave her in my joust with Ser Theomore"
He smiles at Lord Bartheld and chuckles saying "
I think it shameful to take a lord or knight's jousting horse, and would feel a criminal who would deserve to be whipped down the street should I take your horse and armor."

(OOC don't worry, The Septon is just being a overbearing fatherly type to all the Dulver kids. You just happen to be getting married to one of them :;
): Now for my comment from the peanut gallery Laughing )

Septon Arlyn smiles at the exchange between Lord Davian Bartheld and Ser Tymon Lannister. This is how negotiations should go. Two men meeting after a fine joust, and discussing terms that they both agree with. It is a shame that more ransoms do not go the same way Septon Arlyns thoughts drift to the shieldmaiden Loriea's bout. or man and women I guess? It is a wonder what will go on in that tent. To be a fly on the wall there. Septon Arlyn's thoughts return to the moment at hand. "
I as well will graciously accept such an invitation. It would be good to see your man Nathan again. He is quite an astute fellow. Besides I hear that a new orphanage has opened on your lands. Perhaps I could see how you run yours, and if I like anything I see there perhaps I could bring some of those Ideas back to the Seven Star orphanage on House Dulvers land. It might be that between the two of us we can find out how best to improve both of our orphanage through the exchange of Ideas"
comments Septon Arlyn.

Post by Reader Sat Mar 05, 2016 10:35 am

Lady Helen seems enchanted at the prospect of visiting Hart House. While the conservative new Lord Bartheld has dampened its wild reputation somewhat, it is still a storied hall, particularly compared to the austere Deepen Hall she has called home all her life.

"
I shall plead with my father to be able to accept your kind offer Lord Bartheld, your house's hospitality is the envy of the realm."

She looks hopefully at the Septon and her betrothed.

"
I can but hope my Lord father permits it. Seven willing he will see reason for me being formally introduced at a broader range of courts, and my Lady mother may vouch for the idea is paired with a pilgrimage?"

(No problem, that is the beauty of play by post)

Septon Arlyn nods at Lady Helens thought, "
it would be good to see the stary Sept in old town. And little would make your mother happier then showing a keen interest in my teachings, Lady Helen."
Comments Septon Arlyn.

"
Let it not be said that house Dulver does not do it's duty to the Faith. Lady Dulver is a grand ally, always supporting the good news, as well advocating for the Faith to Lord Dulver."
who, admittedly is less interested in the Faith then his coin. But at least he chooses to ignore me for the most part, and let me serve my flock. "
perhaps we might even be able to convince Lord Ben Marsten and Lady Corinne Marsten to join us?"
Adds Septon Arlyn in almost an afterthought.

"
Bravery and strength are only two of Davain's virtues, and he has greater still. You cannot imagine what a relief your words about his health are to me, good Septon. I'll do whatever I can to help him heal properly"
Ayleth replied to Arlyn. She smiled softly at her husband. "
Your love means more to me than being Queen of Love and Beauty, or Queen of all the Seven Kingdoms. You were brave and dashing, dear husband."
Her smile resumed a bit of her flirty, playful demeanor. "
I'll try to make it up to you..."
But she blushed as Davain touched her stomach;
in a few months, her life would change forever and the usually confident Ayleth felt uncertain and unready for it. "
We'll take good care of him"
she said softly and nodded to Davain. The truth was, if they had a son he would ride in tournaments at least once when he came of age;
else men would think him a coward, and he would never be able to rule them. But she was certainly not going to argue with Davain in the present circumstances. This was a time for love and support, not arguments about influence and nobility.

"
A pleasure to meet you, Lady Dulver"
Ayleth says politely and curtsies formally. Even in this situation, she is not going to forget her manners. She is a little flustered to meet an important noble when so off guard. "
I only wish I could have met you under better circumstances. I was quite worried for my Davain, Ser Tymon, but I did not blame you. You rode skillfully and fought cleanly, it was just bad luck."

Ayleth didn't like the way the loser in a joust had to forfeit his armor to the winner;
that tended to humiliate the loser and cause lasting enmity. So she was glad when Davian proposed an alternate solution and Tymn accepted. "
A perfect arrangement, we will be delighted to have you at Hart House. And I do so love hosting..."
she began, but they her expression dropped slightly. "
Preferably not too many months, as in a few months I won't be up to dancing."

She smiled at Helen. "
We do our best to be hospitable. I would love to show you Hart House, and there are few things quite as enjoyable as exploring the social life of another court."

"
We might have to get my husband a piece of that armor too, unless his foolish young wife grows up a little"
she said, gently poking fun at herself.

"
To the victor goes the spoils Ser Tymon. Every combatant knows the price of being unhorsed in the jousted, and it is up to them to decide if the risk is worth the reward. None the less I am grateful of your generosity in return my horse and armor."

A slight frown quickly played across Davain face at the mention of the inviting the Marsten. Another house means more men that will need housing and food, but Nathanial would love the increase in patrons of his establishment. Not to mention Lady Corrine's presence might over shadows Ser Tymon's. Regaining his composer, "
Well Septon Aryln, the feast is in Tymon's honor, so if he would like the Marsten's to come, I am sure my House can accommodate."

Ayleth smiled, but mentally she was sighing. She valued her husband's honesty, but he shouldn't be telling Ser Tymon it would be okay to take his horse and armor.

She looked a little embarrassed on seeing Davain's frown, realizing she had accepted before he had, which she hadn't the right to do. Still, it seemed it would work out. "

that was a very gracious offer my lord."
he says to Ser Tymon. After Lord and Lady Bartheld accept the offer the Septon Smiles. "
Splendid! We shall have to begin arraignments at once!. There it is never too early to start planning for a party right?"
Lord Davian my not be the rolicking good time that his predacecors were, but I doubt that Nathan would let him be too tight fisted. Not like a certain other Lord I know who would rather serve turnips to his guests then a proper meal.

Septon Arlyn watches lord Davian to make sure that his injuries and wounds were being well tended to.

Septon Arlyn quirks an eyebrow. Is is walton married, whom does Lord Davian propose to marry the young heir to. "
No he remains yet unmarried. Probably Lord Dulver is waiting to see if he can fetch a good price for his Sons hand, or a beneficial alliance or some such, as he is the eldest son, thus his heir."
Septon Arlyn whistles softly. "
Not all young Lord and Ladies are as blessed as yourselves my Lords and Lady, who where able to find love in duty. Or as rebellious as Lady Corrine and Lord Ben, although with the skills and glory that Lord Ben has provided for House Marsten, I have to wonder if Lady Isobel regrets protesting so much"

Septon Alryn gentle reminiscing turns, thoughts begin running behind his eyes as the wheels turn. "
Why do you ask Lord Davian? As your wife has put, You have no daughter whom to wend House Bartheld and House Dulver together with."

Davain let out a small chuckle. "
No, you are both correct. If we were to have a daughter soon, it would be many before she would come of age and be married. My sister, Ysme, on the other hand is still unmarried. I know that a sister is not as tempting as a daughter, but with the strength of House Dulver and the Wealth of House Bartheld, I think both of our houses stand to benefit from this union and the alliance formed would be one for the ages. While I understand that you do not speak for Lord Harald, He does heed your council. I was hoping that you might give your insight on the matter and maybe test the waters to see if this union might be of some interest before I present this pact to Lord Harald myself."

Septon Arlyn thinks long and hard for a moment... "
aye, he is not married, and your sister would help bind our houses together. But I do not know if Ser Walton's father would be as easily swayed. Perhaps, though Terren might be of a more agreeable partner for this union? It would still bind our houses closer together while maintaining set Walton's status as a bachelor."

(Sorry for the delay, confirming things OOC. Depending on how badly you want Ser Walton to marry your sister you could intrigue with the Septon to convince him to speak of the plan as presented by you to Lord Dulver, but he is willing to negotiate Terren's marriage with Lord Dulver)

Septon Arlyn smiles warmly at Lord Davian, "
you do bring great honor to our house with this proposal of marriage to your sister. And I have a feeling we will need all the Allies we can to weather this coming storm.

I will certainly speak with Lord Dulver regarding this development. I'm sure that he could be persuaded to see the validity of such an arraignment."
Being kinsmen with the Barathelds could certainly be a boon for his Lordships desire for wealth and validity. He seems to be very preoccupied with how to make money, so the idea of him having acess the great vineyards of the Barathelds to boast of to the other Lords might certainly tickle his fancy
