[King's Landing] The Velaryon Arrests
While the famed adventurer Lord Corlys Velaryon lies stricken at Driftmark vultures already circle to inherit.
With no trueborn sons remaining to him, Lord Velaryon's estate would pass to his grandson, Jacaerys Velaryon, son of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and the late Ser Laenor Velaryon. Princess Rhaenyra is intent that Jacaerys shall follow her to the Iron Throne and therefore counsels her father King Viserys to name her second son Lucerys as heir to Driftmark rather than one of Lord Verlaryon's half dozen nephews.
However, at Drikmark the eldest of these nephews makes his move: Ser Vaemond Velaryon proclaims that he should inherit Driftmark. "
All know that the Princess's supposed children by my cousin are not Velaryons at all but bastard Strongs, seed of Ser Harwin! A man need but look at them to see the truth of the matter."
The Princess's children were all strapping lads, with colouring that was unusual for a Targaryen or Velaryon - brown of hair and eye rather than the striking violet eyes and platinum hair of Old Valyria.
Six years may have passed since King Viserys attempted to quash rumours over his grandchildren's parentage, but the memory was fresh for all with even a passing interest in the royal court. The amiable King had rarely spoke so fiercely and his edict remained in full force. In a rare display of forthrightness and temper, the King had announced that should any, be he "
man or woman or child, noble or common or royal”mock his grandsons as “Strongs” again, their tongues would be pulled out with hot pincers.
His daughter gave him no chance to deliver his punishment to Ser Vaemond.
Princess Rhaenyra dispatches her husband, Prince Daemon himself to seize Ser Vaemond. It is a short flight from Dragonstone to Driftmark on Caraxes' back, and Ser Vaemond is brought directly to the Princess with little resistance that dragonbreath and Dark Sister cannot quell. He is tried before Princess Rhaenyra for the "
calumnies"
he has spoken against her and swiftly beheaded, his corpse fed to the Princess's huge yellow dragon Syrax in an grand display of power. Few would dare risk the Princess's fury now.
Ser Vaemond's stout, loyal brothers Ser Crispin Velaryon and Ser Alaryon Velaryon arrive in the capital, along with their brother's widow Maryia, sister to Lord Owen Fossoway. Alongside Ser Vaemond's brothers stand his three bold young sons Ser Mytros, Ser Dalyron and Ser Maelor. All three are the very image of Old Valyria, silver haired and purple eyed.
They plead before the king in impassioned voices for justice against Prince Daemon and Princess Rhaenyra for seizing and slaying Ser Vaemond.
Their pleas only enrage King Viserys, the plump monarch sitting in stony silence as the Velaryons plead their claim to Driftmark ahead of the bastard "
Strongs"
.
His verdict is made clear by his visage even as he begins his judgement - his red faced fury speaks more than words could. He may bear circlet of his grandfather King Jaehaerys I the Conciliator, but the King speaks with a more typical Targaryen passion now rather than his grandfather's diplomacy.
"
MY WORD IS LAW HERE AND THROUGHOUT MY KINGDOM. I SAID I WOULD HAVE THE TONGUES OF THOSE WHO TOLD SUCH LIES OF MY RHAENYRA AND GODS BE GOOD I WILL!"
"
SEIZE THEM!"
King Viserys stands, waddling down the Iron Throne, but stumbles and catches himself on one of his seat's thousand blades, cutting his left hand to the bone. The throne has made its own judgement.
Amidst the chaos, Velaryons and their guardsmen seek to cut their way to their steeds and then their waiting ships on the docks while Grand Maester Mellos rushes to attend his injured King.
Mechanics - PCs may participate in as many/as few of the below as desired
1) Warfare (Tactics) TN 12
- Highest score MAY choose to treacherously smuggle the Velaryons out of the city amidst the chaos.
- The highest scoring player has one NPC from the opposing faction's relations towards them deteriorate significantly as a respectful enmity build.
- The lowest scoring player has one NPC from their faction's relations towards them deteriorate by one step due to doubts about their suitability for command (only triggers if ability check fails).
- For each DoS on this roll you may add one additional named opposing NPC, two opposing terrtiary NPCs or one allied NPC.
2) Personal combat scenes
- Various Velaryon knights and guardsmen to arrest, feel free to volunteer. Highest score on the warfare roll chooses first, facing one named opponent or three tertiary opponents. Additional participants are based on your warfare roll.
- [Primary characters] Ser Crispin Velaryon and Ser Alaryon Velaryon (attributes are split in places, the / symbol denotes Ser Crispin first the Ser Alaryon): Fighting 5 (Shields 1B, Longblades 2B/Bludgeons 2B), Agility 3, Awareness 2, Athletics 4 (strength 2B), Endurance 4, Will 3. Re: [King's Landing] The Velaryon Arrests
[Unfortunately, Blood of the Rhoyne doesn't give unlimited rerolls, which is what the 'r1' Orokos code does - essentially you just rolled 4d5+4, which is stronger (minimum 8 instead of the unlikely but still possible minimum 4). Like Attractive, the most accurate way to do this is to roll additional d6s and substituting in manually. In this case it would be '4d6;Ser Jorah Holt wrote:: 4d6r1 21 - heh, Blood of the Rhoyne comes in handy here

[ooc]Not to mention there is now way to know how many 1's were re-rolled, I think you should just re-roll each separately to avoid the problem of using Xd6kXr1

Re: [King's Landing] The Velaryon Arrests
[OOC: It is hilariously unlikely that Ser Jorah rolled more than three 1s, so his original roll stands. 48% of the time you'll avoid rolling any 1s when rolling four dice
If people are concerned they can crunch the probabilities themselves or politely ask me to do so.]

Re: [King's Landing] The Velaryon Arrests
[OOC: Heh, good point. I missed that it was full cunning and not half like attractive. The odds of more than one '1' result is much higher than the odds of more than three. Given the infrequency of Tactics tests though, the difference makes a lot of sense.]Reader wrote:[OOC: It is hilariously unlikely that Ser Jorah rolled more than three 1s, so his original roll stands. 48% of the time you'll avoid rolling any 1s when rolling four dice

[Interesting that being TOO good is bad on the third part - coming in first has no benefits over second or third, but earns enmity. Just what I need another person that hates me. ]

Re: [King's Landing] The Velaryon Arrests
They stand on a balcony, watching the chaos in the streets below. Nathan watches with interest, occasionally putting his fargazer to his eye.
The young man hooded and cloaked in black beside him looks puzzled. "
I don't understand? You seem to be fomenting the chaos on both sides."
"
That is how it looks on the surface, certainly."
smiles Nathan. "
But life is more than just one of two sides, and sometimes one must play one side against the other in the short term for long term gain."
"
I don't understand?"
says the young man. "
You seem to be mucking with both sides equally. What is the gain?"
Nathan was thoughtfully silent for the moment. "
Should I support Ser Vaemond Velaryon? The King himself has proclaimed Jacaerys Velaryon's legitimacy. By declaring himself heir, Ser Vaemond brings his own fate upon his head.
Should I support Princess Rhaenyra who tries to step over rightful succession as casually as one would step over a puddle, both for herself and now for her son?"
The hooded boy shook his head. "
I still don't understand."
"
Yes you do."
Nathan smiles. "
You understand that the chaos will only get worse as the day goes on. You understand that this situation will end disastrously. A disaster that could have been easily avoided had not the Princess tried to skip over her older son's claim in favour of her younger simply because it was inconvenient for her. People will die today, all because she has, yet again, tried to interfere with a hereditary succession. A poignant reminder, would you not agree?"
"
That's..."
"
evil?"
"
insidious."
"
No. It's definitely evil."
Nathan sighed. "
But less evil than a war. Today I choose a lesser evil in the hopes of avoiding a greater. Others may live in a world full of black and white, good and evil, honor and betrayal. I do not have that luxury. Neither do you."

Should of made it clearer. I'm doing the reroll and the +2 which increases the total by 3. (+1 from reroll, +2 from quality.)

He rolled a 17.. rerolled a 2 to get a 3 giving him 18, then added the +2 static bonus for a 20.

Or a roll to hide your activities, but if you fail then the DR drops an additional step as whoever it is thinks that you are being dishonorable and hiding your activities

But the Septon would lol.
Or on a success you simply push the negitive into the next highest roller.
I'm thinking a stealth blend in sort of test
