What: Regional tourney (Joust only) to celebrate the birth of the Drakeson's son and heir, Mikael Drakeson.
When: The fifth month of 126 AC.
Who: Anyone. Even if you weren't explicitly invited, you still would have heard about it other ways;
no one (or at least no PCs) will be turned away (though known troublemakers might be watched closely :;
): ). Invites went to just about everyone in the south of the North, the north &
east of the Riverlands, the west &
shore of the Vale, and even Dragonstone (what NPCs actually show up is in Reader's hands, of course). If you're not sure if you (or a specific NPC) were invited, feel free to ask.

As it is a large joust (over 500 participants means over 500 matches), I've devised a way to [OOC] condense the first 6 rounds into 3 matches each for all competitors of note and the final 8 being selected by a scoring system to then play out the remainder of the tournament as normal. That is still pending approval from Reader, though, so it may be that all 9 rounds of competition will be played out. Either way, ransoms for all 9 rounds will be paid, so even the moderately skilled jousters among us can profit. More information will be forthcoming as it is finalized.

Prizes for the top four:
Champion - 150gd
2nd Place - 100gd
Semifinalists - 75gd (ea)

Okay, so getting a crack on:

Opponent stats:
Average Knight:
Passive AH: 9, stay in saddle 3k2, Attack 7k3, health 9, AR 7, Damage 7
Hedge Knight:
Passive AH: 12, stay in saddle 3k3, Attack 7k3, health 6, AR 5, Damage 8
KoQ:
Passive AH: 14, stay in saddle 5k3, Attack 9k4, health 12, AR 10, Damage 8

Let's say that no maneuvers are used by NPC's to keep my sanity intact (and to ensure everyone gets the same opposition, PC's will probably use them of course)

Thanks Theo. I should say that Reader approved the mechanics with the PC challenge option, so I'll post up the full rules and these results in the forum Reader created for my tourney. I would encourage PCs to wait the 10 minutes tops that will take and post in that thread instead of here.

EDIT 2: I think you may have misunderstood? Each should only have 3 jousts total...that seems like an awful lot of rolls. Will examine closer.

Mea culpa, should have done that already. Still trying to catch up on all the balls I had in the air from before the hiatus while adding a few new ones... I'm already dropping a few. Embarassed

EDIT: oops. Mistook which thread this was, thought it was the one that Corrine had created. I will still create a new thread for results (which will have a ranking chart in the first post). I'd still recommend PCs post there, it will keep it cleaner.

I'm also going to set an arbitrary deadline of 1 full week from tomorrow to get rolls in. There's no reason for this to drag on, and a week ought to be plenty of time. Will extend the deadline if there's a good reason (such as Reader say-so :p).

So summary of prominent NPC's (assuming that I need not retcon Loreth Lansdale, but based on the dices/stats used at Riverrun I should be in the clear):

Ser Florian Greysteel lives up to his reputation, needing only seven passes to unhorse six opponents, never once does his seat in the saddle look threatened in the slightest. Apparently intent on restoring his standing in the hierarchy of the list of the Riverlands after his defeat at the lance of Ser Bryndon Hightower in the final 16 at Riverrun and putting an end to whispers that the likes of Lord Baelon and Ser Theomore might have surpassed him in ability.

Ser Loreth Lansdale, a man often found in the retinue when Dragonstone sees fit to take interest in martial events such as these, a skilled knight, if a deal more dangerous in the melee, he is known to honor his liege and her cause at the lists as well. But this time, Ser Reinmark proves a most problematic challenge, a young sworn sword to one of Lord Frey's many vassals, whom some might remember acquitting himself well facing Ser Theomore in Lord Redwain's tourney some months prior. Five passes are required for Ser Loreth to defeat him, concerns are also raised as he requires two passes to vanquish a knight of the hedge whom those he consider his peers easily would have dispatched.

The contingent from Dragonstone are further rattled when Ser Erryk Cargyll, proudly bearing the white cloak, is unhorsed by Ser Gilbar Ryger, another up and coming jouster that proved his mettle at Lord Redwain's wedding, his only saving grace being that his own blow is so fierce that Ser Gilbar ends up on the ground as well, and barely is able to get back upon his horse afterwards, bravely riding one more pass even though his wounds have ruined whatever chance he might have of challenging the Kingsguard knight.

Lord Forrest Frey sends his first five opponents to the ground on the first pass, though unlike Ser Florian, his seat in the saddle appears more precarious, most agree that to proceed to claim glory, he must improve his form when faced with more challenging opponents.

The first favorite to fall is Lord Lymond Mallister, while the aim of his lance does indeed bring back memories of how Ser Criston Cole was felled for those old enough to remember it, that is more than twenty years ago, and his balance in the saddle has grown much more precarious with age. It is clear that Lord Lymond's star at the list has faded out of prominence, yielding to younger and hungrier men.

Oops! As I suspected you misunderstood something. Each participant will only be having 3 jousts. Not much of a simplification if we all roll all 6.
I'll take these rolls and recalculate (should be easy enough). I doubt the results will vary much, but it'll make a big difference for score calculation.

Blech, would have saved me a lot of time. Probably best to take the first of each type of opponent in that case, putting scores at:

Forrest: 34

Yeh, Saving time/rolls was the whole idea. That and scoring based on both offense and defense.

On a quick pass, those revised scores look right. With Baelon's run up as an example, I don't think I need to (and definitely don't want to) organize and repost all the numbers for all the NCs too.
I'll just repost the scores.

Wait, Loreth's Passive ride is only 16, so those HK passes were 1 DoS, with a chance of unhorsing (unlikely but still) and also negatively effect his score...
Also, why don't the wrong dice on his KoQ stay in saddle tests matter? I am confused.

Flagged with reader, but based on earlier appearance of Loreth, he has 2B ride. The statline I initially had didn't include the 2B in spears as well. Assuming the dices and stats used in the joust from Riverrun are correct since reader said that the statline from the melee is incompletely parsed from his spreadsheet.

But his 4d6 results was good enough to succeed against the TN's assuming Passive ride 18.

Can retcon if needed.

Also curious how you want to break ties. Status test, or straight up status rank followed by specialty ranks?

Ah, I see. those 2B ride make a big difference, lowering several of those KoQ hits from 2 to 1 DoS, so that even if the highest 4 of the 10d6 were discarded to bring it down to the appropriate 6d6, it would still be a passing test (though in one case only just barely!).

I think we can assuming Reader used the right values in the joust, so no retcon is necessary unless we hear otherwise.

For the purposes of fewer rolls and swift resolution, just rank.
I'll take care of that for our current ties when I transfer over their scores, which will be in just a minute or twelve.

Ser Florian unsurprisingly defeats Ser Erryk Cargyll after 9 passes and advances to the semifinals.
The thread has been updated with all the details.

Theo would place his bet on Aerion winning the whole thing. Except Raff isn't here to do it for him discreetly, and it's not very sporting to place bets on someone other than himself before he's knocked out.

Probably nobody willing to take up bets against Aerion anyway. Not before final anyway.

Does anyone want to go against Corrine in betting? Reader says to put on a bet for Aerion, I need someone to bet equally against him. Can be done by an NPC if need be, but wanted to give PCs first dibs.

Not at this tourney... maybe at the Coldbrook, or more likely, Bartheld tourneys.

not hard to get the tourneys mixed up right now, we do have 3 being handled more or less at once.

Ah - this is a thread for the Drakeson tourney, hence the confusion. i didn't even know we had an NPC list for the Coldbrook tourney... time to go looking for hunting victims - er, I mean partners. Twisted Evil
